What's New in This Release: [ read full changelog ]
· There has been a significant amount of change to the command-line options and launch behaviors of the update client.
· Command-line options: New options allow finer control of how the update client behaves and are less confusing than the existing CheckBackground, CheckNow and CheckSilent.
· Launch behaviors: AutoUpdate will no longer act as a proxy launcher in front of your application. If you need an update check when your application loads, you will now need to ShellExecute the update client in your application's OnLoad function.
· The configuration interface has been made cleaner and easier to use.
· Removed features: Several features that were confusing or had little use were removed. This includes frequency based checks, check buttons (such as 'always on top') and configuration items that were rarely used (such as the ability to name the log file).
· New features: Much improved integration between the build and preview/test mechanisms. This will greatly aid new users of the application in understanding how to use AutoUpdate .
· Dynamic messages: The 'dynamic messages' in previous releases caused a lot of confusion, as it was difficult to see exactly how they would be used. The new release now includes a messages tab in 'deployment', which enables you to define a custom message only for 'Reason for update' and 'Terms & Conditions'.
· Terminate and execute: The previous releases did not afford enough flexibility in the choice of applications to terminate and launch as part of the update process. The new release will now permit the selection of as many applications as necessary to either launch or terminate at any phase of the update process.
· Bug fix: File based variable did not accept the directory tag parameter, but only allowed files to be read from the local application directory.
