MoonPhases

MoonPhases is a lightweight and simple application which displays information about the current moon phase. It can be easily installed and handled by all astronomy enthusiasts.

The interface of the tool is based on a small window that you can move to any position on the screen, with the help of the mouse cursor. It shows the current phase of the moon, along with the date, percentage of lunar illumination, and remaining days till the full and new moon.

But you can also find out additional information concerning astrological traditions and sayings, view a slideshow of more photos which represent the current moon phase, as well as adjust the playing speed.

From the Settings window you can make the tool automatically run at system startup, as well as update it.

The small utility requires a low-to-moderate amount of CPU and system memory, and has a good response time. No error dialogs have been shown in our tests and MoonPhases did not hang or crash.

On the downside, the frame stays on top of all the other windows, and this option cannot be disabled. Plus, the program was unsuccessful in its attempt to play the slideshow in one case during our evaluation. Other than that, MoonPhases should please all users who want to get to know details on the current phase of the moon.
