Softpedia Editor's Review for Advanced RAR Password Recovery

Recovers lost or forgotten passwords for RAR/WinRAR archives
Written by Elena Opris on November 10th, 2011
How many times have you lost the password to an archive which contained very important documents? Frustrating, isn't it?
Advanced RAR Password Recovery is a decrypting tool that you can use to rediscover forgotten passwords. It has all the necessary and suffice features to work.
But how does it work? You insert the path to an archive file with an unknown password, and hit the start button.
Of course, the application takes a very long time to find out the exact result, but during this process you can view the current password it's trying, time elapsed, time remaining, and average speed.
The ETA thing may seem a little odd, because the tool can't exactly know how much time it takes to figure out your password. Combinations are made in random order (because an alphabetical one would be just stupid), but the ETA tells the remaining time until the program goes through every single option.
If you know a little information about the password, you can filter the scanning process and significantly reduce its time (if all letters are caps or small, if there are digits, spaces or special symbols, or if you know the password length - at least a lower and upper limit).
Unfortunately, Advanced RAR Password Recovery scans for passwords with a length up to four characters, in the trial version. Also, it mainly uses a dictionary, so if words are not "legit", the program may encounter problems.
In our case, we tried a few password combinations. Most of them worked except for one case in which we inputted a four-letter word made from a small letter, a capital letter, a number, and a symbol. Needless to say the software took a long time to complete, and it wasn't successful. But it worked in all the other, simpler cases.
Another negative aspect of Advanced RAR Password Recovery is the fact that it doesn't alert you in any way when scanning finishes. It just sits quietly in the system tray, waiting to be clicked.
CPU and memory resources are minimally used.
So, if you want a good tool for decrypting lost passwords in RAR archives, try Advanced RAR Password Recovery. It's fun to test, and the full version price is reasonable.
