Nowadays, you do not necessarily have to be physically present in the office to complete your work tasks. Then again, working from home also implies being extra cautious with the company data.
fSekrit is a tiny application that enables you to create or edit notes and keep them safe and secure in any of your local or network drives.
The interface is the least impressive feature of the app, especially since it is basically an empty window with a white background. In fact, some people might not give this app too much credit given the dull looks.
While you may not expect it, the application comes with a few standard editing options. It might not be much, but you can use the standard cut, copy, paste, undo, redo and delete (accessible from the context menu) to modify the contents of your memos.
Despite the flat interface, the program is simple to use and comes with a smooth functionality. To get started, type or paste the memo from the clipboard into the main window, set a password and you are done.
You can save the notes you create as executable files that you can store on any drive, including USB Flash memory sticks. You should know that all notes created via the app are protected via a 256-bit military-grade protocol.
In general, traditional utilities imply decoding files on disks, view them and then re-encrypting them.
Perhaps the best thing the app brings to the picture is that it allows you to overcome all this hassle. Simply put, this application can perform both tasks quickly and without taking too much space on your hard disk.
The program works with text files only and it could benefit from extra features that enable you to save images, animations, lists, so on and so forth.
fSekrit is quite efficient at keeping your memos secure. If you are working with text documents most of the time and you want to keep them secure, you can try out this utility.
What's new in fSekrit 1.40:
- fixed: long-standing bug where failing to save changes when closing fSekrit with a modified document would cause fSekrit to exit, rather than notifying of error and let user attempt to save again.
- fixed: saves are *finally* done properly, by saving to a temporary file and replacing the current file only when all the file writing business is done.
- added: font selection dialog, no longer do you need to much around with the registry to set another default font. The font is still not stored in your document, though, and is single global per-user registry setting.
- added: "portable" mode, which (for now) means it will not use %TEMP% to store it's temporary editor executable, but instead store it in the same folder as the opened document. Registry is still used for font selection, though! To enabel this feature, create a file called "fSekrit.portable" in the same folder as the document you want to function in portable mode.
