Dangerous pieces of software can easily make their way into your computer, whether they’re viruses, Trojans, spyware, adware or any other type of malware you want out of the system.
FreeFixer is a tool created to help you remove such software. The app scans the computer, looking into a number of locations where these types of applications usually leave traces.
Thus, the program scans for apps that run at Windows startup, drivers, the browser plug-ins and settings, just to name a few.
However, FreeFixer doesn’t decide which files are bad, so the entire scan result list is quite lengthy. This contains various items that could prove to be dangerous for the computer. However, the final decision is in your hands: you’re the only one who can choose if the files are kept or deleted.
If you opt for the latter, the checkboxes next to each item need to be ticked, followed by clicking the “Fix” button at the end of the list.
FreeFixer can also create log files. From the app’s “Settings” frame, you can choose to display the MD5 or SHA256 cryptographic hash functions for each file.
Furthermore, the software comes with some extra tools. “File Nuker” can help you remove all sorts of unwanted files from the computer. All you need to do is copy/paste the full path into the box and press the button. The file should disappear at system reboot.
You can also check the Windows system files. If there are any overwritten protected files or some that have been tampered with, the program restores the correct version from the cache folder.
All in all, FreeFixer is a nice tool that can be particularly useful when you want to clean up the computer.
