Duplicate Files Manager

Storing files on your computer on a daily basis, from the Internet, or even importing pictures from your camera can easily create duplicates, especially if you’re not quite sure if that particular task is performed already. These can end up taking a lot of disk space, and it’s best to use applications like  Duplicate Files Manager to clear them out.

The application doesn’t take any of your time with an installer, letting you run it right after the download is done. This means you can store it on a USB flash drive in order to be carried around, and even used on other computer. The only thing you need to look for is whether or not Java Runtime Environment is installed, because it’s one of the main requirements.

On launch, the main window shows up, letting you get acquainted with the general set of features. The process takes you through a few steps, with the first requiring you to pick a folder to be analyzed. Depending on your intentions, you can choose for advanced options by switching from beginner mode, to advanced, or expert.

Making the switch between modes doesn’t affect any current operations, but only enabling more options, depending on the mode and area you’re in. Analysis can take a little while, but before you begin, there's the possibility to configure file and folder exclude or include options to narrow down results.

It can take a little while to get the analysis done, but this only depends on the amount of files and filters you apply. All detected items are shown in a list, and upon selection, it lets you view the name and path of its duplicate. Sadly, removal needs to be manually done, because there’s no option to select and remove duplicates at once.

Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Duplicate Files Manager comes with good intentions, but it feels a bit overwhelming for a simple task, and can take a while before you get to know exactly how to manage all its functions. Multiple modes don’t really help much, and the lack of a selection option for all duplicates cuts out a great deal of practicality.
