Generate a list of directories and files which take up the most space on your hard disk drive, navigate through folders for more details, and sort for better analysis. #Size finder #File size #Folder size #Analyse #Analyzer #Sizer
Considering disk space is no longer a concern is a mistake, especially since applications and video games grow larger and larger in size. Sure enough, you can analyze disk space through the tools Windows comes with, but it can take some time to look over directories. Luckily, there are various applications like Folder Sizes to help identify large folders and files quickly.
With no installation required, the application can easily be carried around on a USB flash drive, and used on other computers as well. What’s more, this can be done without the worry that the target PC gets affected, because registries don’t need to be modified in order to take advantage of all features at your disposal.
Everything is presented in a clean interface, with two sections to show files, while the other for folders. Although drag and drop can’t be used to target a specific folder, the built-in browse dialog shouldn’t give you much of a hassle, and this can also be done for removable drives.
Analysis takes incredibly little time, and before you know it, all folders are enlisted in a small table, and files in the root directory in a corresponding one. These can be sorted out according to name or size, in an ascending, or descending order. Moreover, the top four directories are displayed in an upper toolbar, with an option to switch to files.
Total size is displayed in a log window, also showing the state of the analysis process. You can only interact with folders to go further down levels, with a corresponding back button to return to the previous locations. However, you can’t have a specific path brought up in File Explorer, nor can you export a list of all items to keep statistics in a log.
To be fair, it’s a major disappointment Windows has yet to include folder size analysis in its default set of features. However, Folder Sizes comes as a straightforward, practical approach on the situation, with simple folder selection and navigation, quick analysis, and clever display of both folders and files in the specified path.
