Virtual Desktop Indicator

Switching between virtual desktops in Windows is easy enough, but there is no indication of which of them is currently active without accessing Task View. If you use multiple desktops while working, this can be an issue.

Virtual Desktop Indicator is a small piece of software that comes with a solution – it displays the number of the selected virtual desktop in the system tray, making it easy to tell which of them you are using at a glance.

You will notice straight away that the program consists of a single executable file, which you can launch from anywhere on your PC. You don’t need to install anything, and nothing will be left behind once you’ve closed the application.

Virtual Desktop Indicator is about as unobtrusive as software can get, and its resource impact is negligible, so you can leave it running at all times without any issues.

The program performs a very simple function, one that can prove very useful – it displays the number of the virtual desktop you are currently using in the system tray so that you can avoid having to bring up Task View.

Virtual Desktop Indicator offers no other features, but most users will probably be happy with what is available. To close the application, simply right click the system tray icon to bring up the context menu.

When it comes down to it, Virtual Desktop Indicator is a very simple piece of software, but it can prove extremely useful when having to handle several virtual desktops.

It would have helped if it were possible to customize the look of the tray indicator, or maybe switch between virtual desktops from the tray icon, but these are not essential features by any means.
