FileNotes

FileNotes enables you to quickly add notes to your files and folders, recall them later, and make any modifications. It's simple to use.

The installation procedure doesn't take a long time. However, although the setup wizard doesn't make any mention of this, it creates new entries into the Windows Explorer shell extension for rapidly adding notes to files and folders. Moreover, it needs .NET Framework to run after setup.

From this point on, you can access the "Notes" entry of any file or folder's context menu to create, view and edit comments. The utility brings up to the screen a plain-looking frame with a gray background that resembles a notebook.

The full path of the current item is shown on the top part of the window. You can type text or paste it from the Clipboard, and don't have to worry about saving changes, since FileNotes automatically performs this action the moment you proceed with your regular PC activity, such as clicking any area outside of its interface.

The second time you access the program from that file or folder's right-click menu, you'll be able to view the comments, remove them, or edit them. It may prove to be a simple way of exchanging messages about important files, directories or applications with other users sharing the computer, for example.

Unsurprisingly, the software tool didn't hog system resources in our tests, and it had a good response time. On the other hand, an error popped up on the screen every time we attempted to launch FileNotes through its executable file. Plus, there's no way of keeping track of all notes created using this utility, and it's easy to lose sight of numerous comments.

On the other hand, it leaves behind a file after uninstallation that, although it's difficult to decipher, contains raw data about recorded file paths and notes. We must also take into account that it hasn't been updated for a long time.
