ANI represents the standard file format for the animated cursors that are used on Windows. Unlike the CUR format it resembles, ANI files include several items that create an animation.

ANI files consist of a collection of ICO files which are in fact the graphic frames that make up the animation sequence.

In order to be able to access ANI files, users need to choose a compatible graphic viewer.

Most ANI viewers will also offer users the possibility to perform some basic editing, like resizing or rotating.

In addition, these applications will typically enable users to export their ANI files to other graphic formats.
