New in Adobe Audition CC 2015.1 Build 8.1.0.162 (Feb 19, 2016)

  • With the CC 2015.1 release of Audition, we implemented support for third-party integration via the Adobe Context Extensibility Platform (CEP). This technology allows anyone with some HTML and JavaScript know-how to build integrated panels that extend or supplement the functionality of Adobe applications, offer access to third-party and web technologies without leaving the applications, and allow those services to share Application data and files back-and-forth. There are already over 1600 addons available for Adobe desktop applications such as Premiere Pro and Photoshop.
  • Technology partners such as Pop Up Archive have already published extensions for Audition which can be easily installed by ensuring File Sync is enabled in your Creative Cloud Desktop application. But I wanted to make sure something was available for everyone who downloaded the update of Audition, and so I spent some time working on a simple panel to help users find some of our favorite sites and tools. The Adobe Audition Portal extension was born!
  • This portal provides fast links to our user forums, bug report form, blog, as well as downloadable content. You folks sure like downloadable content! By far the most visited link is to our library of over 10,000 high-quality, royalty-free sound effects, followed closely by visits to the Adobe Extensions marketplace. If you have suggestions for additional links or updated content you’d like to see, please click the User Feedback button in the portal and send your comments!

New in Adobe Audition CC 2015.0 Build 8.0.0.192 (Jun 16, 2015)

  • Dynamic Link video streaming:
  • No more video rendering when sending sequences from Premiere Pro to Audition! Premiere timelines can now be streamed via Dynamic Link directly into the Video panel in Audition, with full native resolution and frame rate. Edit sound to your picture faster and better than ever before and see changes to your video update immediately in Audition.
  • Full-Screen mirror video display:
  • Spotting sound effects, recording ADR or voiceovers, and previewing your video while you work just got the cinema experience! Audition can now mirror your video panel full-screen on a second monitor. Use HDMI, DVI, even VGA outputs to display your full video playback on a secondary monitor.
  • Relink Media:
  • Easy link your multitrack clips to new media assets, changing the content while keeping all edits, automation, and effects. Great for swapping scratch soundtracks or voiceovers with final content, or quickly relinking any content offline when a session file was opened.
  • Automatic Session file backup:
  • Audition now offers the ability to periodically and intelligently store backup copies of your multitrack session .SESX files, ensuring you’ll always have a recent history of your edit state in case of power failure, hardware hiccups, or drive corruption. Have backups stored in your Creative Cloud Files location to sync online, use your own file sync service directory, or store on a secondary or network drive. Backups are timestamped and can easily be opened and restored if your main session file meets an accident or you simply wish you could jump back in time a bit.
  • Copy imported assets to session folder:
  • We’ve received this request from many users over the past year, and I’m happy to say this feature is now available in Audition. When saving a session containing imported media from an external location, such as sound effects and music libraries or clips from other projects, Audition will now ask users if they wish to copy the asset to the current session folder. This prevents the dreaded “media not found” problems when taking your laptop on-the-go, or when sending someone a copy of your session.
  • Schedule recording:
  • Another request from many of our long-time users was to bring back Timed Recording! Your wish is granted! Audition now offers the ability to schedule a recording far in advance, or to record for a specific duration. Great for editors who might need to capture a source or stream at a time when they can’t be at their desk, or need to ensure a session doesn’t record all night.
  • Custom Level Meters crossover values:
  • Broadcasters can vary greatly in their editing and delivery requirements. While loudness correction tools can ensure final content is delivered to spec, many editors prefer addressing loudness and headroom during the editing process. Audition now supports arbitrary values to trigger the Caution (Yellow) and Warning (Red) meter crossover colors, allowing editors to easily ensure their projects stay within the ranges set by broadcasters, or their personal preferences.
  • Import / Export Markers:
  • Audition now supports importing markers from ANY media file containing XMP metadata, or an XMP sidecar file, and applying these to any other audio file or multitrack session. Grab cues or comment markers from Prelude or Premiere Pro users and attach them to recordings in Audition for timing adjustments or corrections. Export markers from any audio file to tab-delimited CSV for use in third-party applications.
  • Brazilian Portuguese language support:
  • Audition now supports Brazilian Portuguese as a new language option.
  • Audio driver performance and stability updates:
  • Significant engineering work has been done to Audition and Premiere Pro to improve the performance and ease of use of audio devices. Fewer pointless warnings when audio devices change, better support for mixing-and-matching USB microphones with built-in output, and no more sample rate mismatch errors should help non-audio pro’s feel more at ease and have a better experience when recording in both applications.

New in Adobe Audition CC 2014.1 Build 7.1.0.119 (Oct 7, 2014)

  • Updated user interface with HiDPI support:
  • The user interface in Audition is refined and updated to provide an improved user experience across devices, including support for HiDPI Windows 8.1 displays.
  • With HiDPI support, Audition provides a higher resolution user interface that displays text, icons, and other user interface elements in greater clarity. Audition also supports resolution scaling factors, ensuring user interface elements scale optimally and continue to appear sharp and clear.
  • Enhanced volume leveling for speech:
  • The new Target Dynamic Range option in Audition provides better control over volume leveling for spoken content.
  • In previous versions of Audition, amplifying speech also amplified any background noises. Target Dynamic Range helps you minimize background noises while amplifying and leveling only speech.
  • The Target Dynamic Range option is available under Effects > Amplitude and Compression > Speech Volume Leveler.
  • For best results with most content, specify a Target Dynamic Range value between –45dB and –60dB.
  • Important notes
  • Specifying a higher parameter value (up to –80dB) can significantly reduce background noise, but applies less leveling and amplification of speech content.
  • Specifying a lower parameter value (down to –30dB) provides better speech leveling, but may amplify the background noise more than desired.
  • Improved video performance and expanded format support:
  • Audition is now a native MediaCore client resulting in expanded video file format support, faster loading time, and improved playback of video content.
  • This support removes Audition's dependence on the Dynamic Link Media Server (DLMS) to export and import video.
  • Audition can now import and export any format supported by the third-party MediaCore plug-in. Some of the newly supported formats include MXF, ARRIRAW, and Soundbooth ASND preview.
  • Enhanced support for on-location audio recording:
  • Audition can now read, modify, and generate iXML metadata.
  • iXML metadata is typically captured by audio recording devices or on-location audio recording software such as Metacorder for Mac. An important feature of iXML metadata is the ability to select and mark the best takes, and record on-set notes.
  • Other enhancements:
  • Preview Soundbooth .ASND projects in Audition - You can now preview Soundbooth project files in the Adobe Sound Document (ASND) file format directly in Audition CC. This functionality mirrors Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Flash Pro allowing you to import the mixdown preview into the Waveform or Multitrack timelines.
  • Expanded native support for video files - Adobe Premiere Pro CC offers extensive native media support, letting you edit all the major video, image, and audio formats natively. The 2014.1 release of Audition CC supports all the native video formats that are supported in Premiere Pro.
