  • Fire, Other:
  • Various changes: improved retrieval of fire perimeter map images from InciWeb; improved the Google News search criteria for fire incidents
  • General/UI:
  • Minor bug fixes

New in Earth Alerts 2013.1.52 (May 11, 2013)

  • NEW! Improvements made for tracking active fires...Earth Alerts now uses CAL FIRE as the primary information source for incidents located within California; InciWeb information will continue to be used for all U.S. locations, however keep in mind that Inciweb reports are typically limited to monitored fires situated on federal land (e.g. national forests, national parks, BLM, etc.)...
  • Additional changes to improve retrieval of fire perimeter map images from GeoMAC
  • TIP: If you want to speed up the process when Earth Alerts fetches fire incident information (InciWeb in particular is a VERY slow website), adjust the setting called "Report Age" to be something in the 7-14 day range; doing this will skip downloading older incident reports that aren't frequently updated (typically Prescribed Fires); major Wildfires are updated much more frequently, often daily.

New in Earth Alerts 2013.1.46 (May 7, 2013)

  • Bug fix related to alert being set incorrectly when a new report indicates a
  • 100% contained fire; bug caused the alerts list and alert info to show as unknown location/unknown alert.

New in Earth Alerts 2013.1.42 (Apr 18, 2013)

  • Bug fixes to properly display location specific information; fixes needed due to changes to the format of the reports issued by the National Weather Service / Storm Prediction Center

New in Earth Alerts 2013.1.40 (Feb 26, 2013)

  • Yet another refinement to the recent enhancement for U.S. Locations: added a new user setting "report age"; find this new setting under Settings -> Retrieve -> Locations - United States -> Fire, Other; the default value for report age is 60 days; as with the "distance maximum" setting this new option provides some more flexibility in terms of how many incident reports for each U.S. Location are retrieved from the InciWeb service; many incidents such as large wildfires can be ongoing, long-term events which may exist for many months beyond the original date it started; the report age setting gives you the ability to determine the maximum number of days you wish to have Earth Alerts track active, ongoing incidents based on the last time the report was updated on InciWeb

New in Earth Alerts 2013.1.36 (Feb 21, 2013)

  • Minor bug fixes to recent enhancement for U.S. Locations: fixed the incorrect
  • date/time stamps indicating when the InciWeb report was last updated; other
  • minor formatting changes to the report as it appears in Earth Alerts
  • All earthquake screens: small improvement to the "News" option, specifically with Google News...now provides a more specific default search string based on the currently-selected earthquake event; example: searches on the specific phrase "MINDANAO PHILLIPINES EARTHQUAKE" instead of generic search "EARTHQUAKE"

New in Earth Alerts 2013.1.32 (Feb 19, 2013)

  • Changes for U.S. Locations only: significant enhancement with how information is retrieved and processed from the InciWeb system; changes better differentiate between types of fires (wildfires, wildland fires, prescribed fires) and other types of incidents occasionally reported on Inciweb such as floods. This enhancement also includes a new user setting: "distance maximum"; find this new setting under Settings -> Retrieve -> Locations - United States -> Fire, Other; the default value for distance maximum is 150 miles; this value is applied for each U.S. Location you have setup; the benefit of this enhancement is that the data retrieval process should be faster overall (the InciWeb site has always been notoriously SLOW!); the incident reports shown for each U.S Location are now more relevant since they are now based on latitude/longitude values -- this works similar to how earthquake events are tracked in Earth Alerts; the distance value is calculated between each U.S. Location and an active incident reported on InciWeb such as a wildfire
  • Changes for U.S. Overview and U.S. Locations: eliminated all UI references to
  • "Wildland Fire" and replaced with simply "Fire"

New in Earth Alerts 2013.1.22 (Feb 11, 2013)

  • same active alert items after each update interval; as always, in the Settings -> Notify - Visual & Sound screen you can control how many active alerts to display in the window at a time and how long the pop-up window displays above the Windows taskbar; if you wish, you can also turn OFF this "Active Alerts Notification Window" feature entirely if it really pisses you off!
