Nevercenter Silo Changelog

What's new in Nevercenter Silo 2023.3.0

May 10, 2023
  • Feature List:
  • Added new Radial Mirror modifier, perfect for making wheels, tires, spokes, gears, and any other cylindrical shape or radially-repeated shape

  • Lower memory usage generally, especially on higher-poly models
  • Most undo operations for geometry changes are faster
  • Undo on geometry changes does better at keeping/restoring selection
  • Fixed bug in scene editor where selecting nothing could make objects temporarily un-selectable
  • Fixed bug in numerical editor where certain rotation values could make your object disappear
  • Fixed bug where using the Extrude modifier above a certain poly count could cause crashing on windows

New in Nevercenter Silo 2023.20 (Mar 22, 2023)

  • This release features a brand new primitive, the Arch primitive, which is great for making all sorts of arch shapes, tunnels, house shapes, mailboxes, gravestones, half-pipes, and more with its flexible design and set of parameters. We have also added a new Subdivide modifier to the Modify menu. It can be applied anywhere in the modifier stack, not just at the end, unlocking lots of powerful possibilities. We've also added multi-monitor support which allows Silo to remember its window locations across monitors, so it'll remember where you put it across sessions on multi-monitor setups, along with smaller bug fixes and improvements.

New in Nevercenter Silo 2023.10 (Feb 9, 2023)

New in Nevercenter Silo 2022.1.0 (Jun 27, 2022)

  • What's new in 2022.1:
  • Added built-in time-lapse screen recording (either including only the application window or your whole desktop) so you can easily record your modeling sessions to share online. Includes options for quality and speed.
  • Made manipulators hide handles pointing mostly in/out of the screen to more easily access the handles you want
  • Made orthographic viewport grids have infinite draw bounds
  • Fixed area and lasso selection bugs
  • Fixed bug where scrolling in numerical fields wouldn’t increment/decrement values consistently
  • Fixed bugs in still screenshot functionality
  • Fixed slowdown bug on Windows when assigning material texture maps

New in Nevercenter Silo 2022.0 (Apr 27, 2022)

  • Silo 2022 is here! Includes MAJOR fundamental improvements to the deep inner workings of Silo.
  • First off, we’ve swapped in Pixar’s OpenSubdiv library to power Silo’s subdivision surfaces. This means that on high-subdivision models RAM usage can be reduced by more than 50%, and interactive edits to your subd models will work faster and smoother than ever, often dramatically so.
  • Next, we’ve completely redesigned how Silo’s memory management works under the hood, which should increase the long-term stability and efficiency of Silo.
  • Additionally, many tools, manipulators, and other visual elements have been refreshed with a new, more modern look. We’d love to hear your suggestions on how to further improve them, especially in terms of offering useful visual feedback. In many cases models also draw faster for higher frame rates.
  • There are also several useful workflow updates like being able to highlight manipulators and geometry selections across multiple viewports without having to click to activate the viewport, and each tool options window now opens in its own window rather than reusing a common window. Numerical fields now work much better with scrolling and mouse dragging. Tons of little things like that have been tweaked and updated.
  • Tons and tons of bugs have been fixed across every corner of Silo. Thanks to all those who tested the betas and reported bugs - we’ve squashed essentially every reported bug, and have noted and are considering each and every feature suggestion.
  • The best part is that the large fundamental changes we’ve implemented are paving the way for us to add other awesome big things that users have been requesting for a long time. So stay tuned for more!

New in Nevercenter Silo 2.3.1 (Jan 30, 2015)

  • New/Changed Features:
  • Data directories have changed (for a better launch experience for users coming from Silo 2.2 and earlier). NOTE: This data directory change will require that users re-register Silo. Your same Silo 2.x registration information will work; please email [email protected] if you cannot find it, and we can look it up for you.
  • Windows versions are now large-address-aware, this is particularly helpful for 32-bit users when running on a 64-bit windows. Silo can now use 4 GB of RAM instead of just 2 GB.
  • Windows 64-bit native version. The 64-bit version can handle larger meshes due to availability of more than 4 GB of RAM, the same as the Mac OS X and Linux versions which are already 64-bit native starting in Silo 2.3.
  • The black-window issue on Linux has been fixed, which was caused by European numeric locales. Silo now forces a US/UTF-8 locale on launch. Some distros may still setup the locale incorrectly, so if you use a non-US locale and run into issues, please let us know at [email protected] what distribution / locale you are using.
  • A cut tool crash has been fixed.
  • Alt/option key handling on OS X has been fixed. This fix was made available early in version 2.3.02 for Mac OS X as well.
  • It is now possible to delete empty objects in the scene editor.
  • Exported OBJs should play much better with Substance Painter.
  • Context menu placement on OS X with multi-monitor setups should be fixed.

New in Nevercenter Silo 2.3 (Jan 30, 2015)

  • New/Changed Features:
  • Moved to more modern Qt 5.x
  • Linux support (RHEL/CentOS 6, recent Fedoras, recent Ubuntus have been tested; not all distros will work)
  • 64-bit support for Mac OS X and Linux
  • STL import
  • Bug fixes
  • Old data from Silo 2.2 and before may reside in the "Silo Data" folder inside "My Documents". This old data may cause issues as the newer Silo will try to use it as-is. If you run into missing icons, key bindings, or other issues, please rename Silo Data to something else. Silo will recreate the folder with the new default Silo 2.3 data, and you will be able to set up your preferences after that from within Silo.
