  • Scatter:
  • Crowds of digital people can now be created (Menu > Create > Scatter > Generate Crowd). Crowds can be created in a designated area or on top of objects converted to navigation mesh (Path > NavMesh).
  • New Scatter toolbar can be used to launch the Crowd Generate window or apply different crowd-gen templates, including random, formation, ring, walkway, etc.
  • New prop distribution function (Menu > Create > Scatter > Distribute Prop) can be applied to designated props (Path > NavMesh).
  • Distribute Prop function can now be accessed in the Scatter toolbar.
  • NavMesh:
  • New NavMesh function (Menu > Create > Generate > NavMesh). By defining NavMesh parameters and object properties in the scene, you can create an area where Motion Director characters can automatically navigate, as well as an area where characters and props can be deployed using Scatter.
  • New NavMesh-related attributes have been added to props. They include static, dynamic, unwalkable, and ignorable states which will have a direct impact on the NavMesh area.
  • New NavMesh toolbar can open the NavMesh generation panel.
  • New NavMesh update feature in the NavMesh toolbar can be used to refresh NavMeshes and adjust the positions of scene objects.
  • Actor Group:
  • New content category called "Actor Group" can be used define groups of characters. A control panel can then be used to change the group's randomness, material, and motion settings.
  • New Actor Group editing tools for customizing groups according to different scenarios.
  • Actor Groups are supported for bought ActorCore characters. ActorCore characters with gender and age tags will automatically be added to the selection pool for random application.
  • DDS:
  • New DDS (DirectDraw Surface) for source image compression. This compression can alleviate some load on the vram to prevent operational issues stemming from high-resolution resources.
  • DDS compressed data can now be cached. Once cached, no time will be spent on decompressing the image.
  • Lite Actor:
  • Characters now have the ability to switch to Lite mode under Modify > Attribute. This mode will lock certain animation functions to optimized playback performance.
  • New Actor Group editing tools for customizing groups according to different scenarios.
  • Characters in lite mode can be switched back to Edit mode with the original editing restored.
  • Tag System:
  • Using crowd generation, walkway, and actor groups will automatically pair together characters, motions, and iMDs based on content tags. This system guarantees that randomization works in a logical manner.
  • Custom tags can be assigned while using crowd generation, walkways, and actor groups to correspond to various scenarios.
  • Preference > Default Tag settings can be applied to crowd generation, walkways, and actor groups.
  • Path / Walkway:
  • New path editing can be used for Motion Director's Walkway system to set path width and connections.
  • IMD files and MD Action settings can be adjusted for walkways. iMD parameter settings will be automatically applied to characters assigned to paths.
  • Motion Director (MD):
  • New run-time solution for feet slipping that currently only works for default Motion Director packs (iMDs).
  • Characters driven by Motion Director will now have mutual avoidance capabilities. Avoidance settings can be adjusted under MD Controls > General Settings > Simulate.
  • New MD Controls > Character Settings > Simulate > Agent Radius setting can be used to adjust the avoidance detection radius on a per-character basis.
  • MD Behavior Mixer can be used to mix upper body motions with iMD-driven leg movement.
  • New Add/Delete Behavior commands can be used to add motions to the current iMD options for Idle, Perform, and Mixer behaviors.
  • New Perform and Mixer trigger conditions. These adjustable conditions can decide whether a triggered motion is disrupted or continues to play after a brief interruption.
  • New auto-add function for MD Behavior. Mode and mixer data for the target iMD can now be added to the current iMD to expand its options.
  • New Mixer Weights panel can be opened from the Behavior List or from the Trigger panel in Motion Director mode. Mixer weights offer more intricate control over the motion blending of each individual bone.
  • IMD retargeting can now be manually applied (MD Controls > Character Settings > Simulate > iMD Motion Retarget).
  • Retargeted motion will now be cached for iMD. This cache will be reused when the same iMD is applied to the same character.
  • New middle-click waypoint function in MD Player Controls for switching to flock mode. When multiple controlled characters reach their destinations, they will maintain their original formation.
  • Content Manager:
  • Custom tags are now allowed on every item for forthcoming search and management enhancements.
  • Support for the upcoming Workgroup content download.
  • Multi-word searches are now allowed, separated by spaces, commas, or underscores.
  • New Search History function will store prior search terms.
  • Enhanced:

  • New Control on Path and Auto on Path modes in the MD Controls panel for the walkway settings. These modes have an effect on the follow forward and reverse parameters.
  • Motion Director (MD):
  • Snap to Surface can be used to plant the feet onto the ground and will take into account the strength settings for different characters. Make sure retarget motion prior applying plant feet.
  • Integrated iMD-related settings into MD Behavior. The MD Behavior panel has been restructured to accommodate the extra customization system.
  • New 'Mixer' category for hotkey settings. The 'Mixer' trigger section is separated into 'Mode', 'Perform/Mixer', and 'SubMixer'.
  • Perform and Mixer under the Trigger page are now separated by speed.
  • Optimized the iMD deployment process for the Motion Director mechanism. iMD motion will be forcibly retargeted for CC3+ and ActorCore characters to allow for faster previews.

  • Foolproofed database initialization in the case of system interference with the application-dependent files. For instance, Smart Gallery prompts an error message when the prerequisite folders are missing.

  • Sampling the selected parts from a motion clip (Sample Motion Clip to New Layer > Sample Selected Parts) with either LFinger or RFinger enabled causes the unselected parts to be sampled as well. Feedback Tracker
  • Pressing the right arrow button once on the keyboard (→) is enough to move the timeline forward by one frame. But two presses are required when the timeline window is focused. Feedback Tracker

  • Motion for UV animated objects contain errors when played back.

  • Unable to control material animations with LUA for materials that have illegal characters in their names rectified by the system.

  • Unable to drag FBX into the viewport after Visual > IBL > Show Sky is enabled.
  • Applying external motions with Z-rotations for the hips to a character, and performing Hip to Root results in an improper orientation of the root Z-axis.
  • Morph tracks do not update for CC characters that have added/removed custom morphs in MC.

  • The camera in the toolbar needs to maintain its start position when Motion Director starts and stops.
  • Skin color can be baked to the Diffuse map when Skin Color is deactivated.
  • Activating subdivisions on the eyeballs and turning the head will cause a delay in the motion of the eyeball's reflective highlights.
  • The facial slider parameter cannot be adjusted with the mouse wheel, up/down arrow keys, and page up/down keys.
  • If Motion Director does not have data, and Add Macro is launched in Replay mode, then the Add button is disabled.
  • After using waypoints to move the character and when two waypoints are close to each other, the viewport does not show the waypoint, however, the character continues to move in its direction.
  • Flatten All Motion with Constraints has no effect on props.
  • Applying DRM motion to the characters, saving the rlPose using Content Manager, and applying the pose makes a blocking message appear.
  • Opening the application without launching Motion Director, deploying two characters with iMD applied on either one, and using Ctrl+R leads to a lack of data for the Speed info.
  • Unexpected reflective artefacts exist for videos exported from certain projects.
  • Using F10 to preview a particle project causes visual discrepancies with the particle effects in the viewport.

  • PHYSICALLY-BASED RENDER (PBR) :
  • PBR is a big content differentiator in iClone 7. We hope to let more users start to test out the PBR pipeline, and learn the relation between traditional content and PBR content, along with how to convert existing projects to PBR render mode for enhanced visual quality. Try to import PBR content from different web sources, Unity, Unreal, Marmoset, SketchFab, or try to develop PBR content using PBR tools like Substance Painter, 3D Coat, Quixel and others. You can also import Substance libraries from Substance Designer, to test out the dynamic PBR effects.
  • GLOBAL ILLUMINATION (GI) :
  • GI is cool but it requires a much better GPU, with sufficient video memory to get an ideal, real-time editing performance. It's a good reason to update your system, however we understand that it might not be possible for everyone but you can still try GI from the final render export.
  • REAL CAMERA SYSTEM :

  • To fully deliver facial movement details for mouth, cheeks and eyes, CC Characters' facial morph count has been increased from 30 to 60 morphs. iClone 7 facial architecture is now aligned with professional facial tracking specifications, opening the new door to real-time facial mocap.
  • MORPH ANIMATION :
  • Achieve dynamic, organic animation performances with a series of morphs added to props or skin-bone characters. Edit morph groups from a hierarchical model with the Morph Manager, set keys and tweak values for each morph track to achieve ideal movements between morphs.
  • SHADOW PASS :
  • Bring back depth in shadow areas which often seemed too soft and shallow due to multiple light sources. The Shadow Catcher function hides a prop from rendering but still allows it to receive shadows for compositing. Shadow Only Lights, compensate for shadowless lighting methods such as those generated by material glow/self-illumination, particle lighting, and emissive light props.
  • LOOKUP TABLE (LUT) :
  • LUT is a way to use a mapping texture to swap out on-screen pixel color swatch. Take advantage of a more convenient image conversion with better performance and more professional results. One can set the color mapping in a 2D solution such as Photoshop, Gimp, or others, for more precise control.

  • Tessellation from DirectX11:
  • Tessellation allows you to add geometry details to any model and have it render in real-time via the addition of height and vector displacement maps. This is made possible via DirectX11 support within iClone 6.
  • 3D Visuals from 2D Image Displacement Maps:
  • In a real-time environment, it's difficult to create detailed surfaces without raising polygon count significantly. Thanks to tessellation technology, your GPU can dynamically generate mesh details by applying a displacement value from height or vector displacement maps. This means that you can physically manipulate the geometry of your low-poly model to give it a greater sense of depth and detail without increasing the polygon count.
  • Sculpting Highly Detailed Models with Vector Displacement:
  • Vector displacement technology allows artists and developers to start off by creating detailed models in programs such as ZBrush, Mudbox, or 3D Coat, and then extract displacement maps to later be applied to a simple geometric shape. This process is ideal for real-time engines like iClone, and produce results that are incredibly similar to your actual model. One of the huge advantages of vector displacement is the ability to produce undercut details on your model. While height displacement simply stretches out geometry, vector displacement produces refined curves and edges, creating an unparalleled sense of detail to your model.
  • Soft Cloth:
  • One of the long-anticipated features soft cloth in finally here with iClone 6. The animated character will look super natural with flowing hair, skirt and physical movement. No more penetration, the real-time simulation performance is much better using the new NVIDIA PhysX engine.
  • Weight Map for Smooth Transition:
  • Soft cloth is an incredibly versatile feature that can be used for hanging, swaying, or rolling motions in your scene. You can use the gray map to determine which part of the cloth is controlled by cloth physics and which part is let free or governed by skin-bone control. We've also added wind behavior in order to make soft cloth self-animated, allowing for much more natural movement without external animation forces.
  • Natural Hair & Skirt Movements:
  • Animated characters will now look incredibly realistic by incorporating flowing hair, skirts, and other physics-enabled objects to their bodies. The real-time simulation via NVIDIA's PhysX engine means no more penetration of physics objects into the body. You can even bake these simulated physics results and re-use the animations.

  • Characters models can now realistically interact with other physics objects in your scene. Simply select any body part and resize the graphic reference to match the desired collision area, then go wild with any number of interesting physics interactions.
  • Object-oriented Constraint:
  • Previously, iClone allowed you to adjust constraint settings to simulate the dropping behavior of a rigid body object in a certain range or direction. However, all the connection settings were invisible, making it difficult to observe and modify. The new constraint gizmo tool in iClone 6 makes it a lot easier to design physics objects and clearly observe the relations between two separate objects.
  • Complete Light System:
  • In previous versions of iClone, you needed to adjust lights separately from light props, which couldn't be attached and saved as single objects. In iClone 6, you can directly drag in a light prop to light up your scene. The brightness, color, and range of your light prop can be duplicated and reused in your projects with ease.
  • Infinite Lights - You can now add an infinite number of lights in your scene! This allows for endless combinations of more detailed and complex lighting schemes, both for interior and exterior use.
  • Light Props - We've thrown the light number limitations out the window. You can now be creative with developing your own lighting assets. Simply attach any light to your objects and start building your own custom light library.
  • USABILITY PERFECTION:
  • Flexible UI:
  • The revolutionary new iClone Qt User Interface is now able to adapt to your working behavior, visual preference (Green & Gray or Pure Gray UI color schemes), and provides various font and UI sizes which adapt to different resolutions. You now have the freedom to customize your iClone UI layout like never before!
  • New Dockable User Interface:
  • The new Qt UI design lets you drag, dock and combine your various work panels to any area of the screen, allowing for the quickest workflow in any number of scenarios. You can then save your custom UI layout for future use. Quickly switch between different layout frameworks like animation view, scene setup view, or cinematic view.
  • Multi-screen Monitors:
  • Like working with 2 screens? No problem! Simply undock the upper timeline and all the work panels, and then just place them all on one screen, while you dedicate the other screen to animation on your stage.   • Quick Search & Pack View:
  • The only disadvantage to having a large content library is that it gets more difficult to find a specific thing. Thankfully, there is now a progressive search field that allows you to find what you're looking for in a flash. In addition, the pack view allows you to streamline scene creation workflows with props, characters, accessories, and any other items that are included in the same content packs, regardless of content type.
  • Timeline Enhancements:
  • With the new timeline enhancements, you no longer need to worry about a smaller key editing UI when you raise your screen resolution. Now you can simply scroll your mouse to enlarge its display size, and hold the Alt key to pan the timeline view. In addition, there are lots of other improvements which let users manage object sub-tracks much easier.
  • Dope Sheet - You can directly perform key edits on the master track without having trouble clicking on every individual track to find the specific keys you created, which makes observation and editing much easier.
  • Multi-object Track Editing - Previously, when you needed to adjust the time frame in your timeline, you would need to move the keyframes of different characters, objects, and materials separately from different tracks. iClone 6 includes a new Rectangle Select feature, which allows you select multiple items in separate tracks and move them simultaneously.

  • With the enhanced topology of the face mesh, not only can you change the character look, but you can also make facial expressions more smooth and natural. The texture has been created and refined with professional tools, resulting in astounding skin detail.
  • New SpeedTree Technology:
  • In this new update, you will now find a lot more content besides trees, including flying bugs, butterflies, fences, rocks, leaves, and plants in the shape of 3D text. Another enhancement is that all of the grass is now 3D! All trees now come with multiple texture channels, including diffuse, normal, specular, and even alpha values for transmissive effects. You can even see the bark details and light as it passes through the leaves.
  • Lively Plants Swaying in the Wind - Wind behavior has also been vastly improved. Different species of plants like broad-leaf, needle-leaf, or grass now react accordingly to wind settings. Even a single tree can have branch and leaf motion settings so you can see it naturally oscillating in the wind. In addition, you can now use the timeline to key in wind changes from still and gentle to hurricane speed!
  • Enhanced LOD (Level of Detail) - Although SpeedTree previously had a LOD system to ensure steady performance in a massive forest, some skips or jittering could still occur when changing mesh levels or altering camera distance. In iClone 6, you will hardly find any changes during these level transitions. The same smooth transitions have also been applied to SpeedTree objects such as rocks, fences, or other props.
  • Super Realistic Substance Material:
  • Previously in iClone, all 3D models had their own set of materials, which presented a pretty basic look. Now with Substance technology from Allegorithmic, you have the power to alter the material look and style, making existing materials look more natural and realistic. Aside from that, you can also create animated effects using the Substance library as well.
  • Massive Material Library - With the built-in Substance engine, users can easily add dynamic texture behaviors to existing iClone materials. In the future, Reallusion will provide a number of additions to create a massive Substance library for your immediate use, allowing you to unleash your creativity by using the Substance tools.
  • Realistic Looking 3D Shapes - By working with built-in Substance technology, you can now choose metal, wood, or rock looks for the 3D block system, and simulate natural weathering effects in a few simple clicks. Easily create effects such as chipped paint and aged wood with moss, or add scratches and character to metal to give it a rusted look.

With the new 5.4 version update, once you have finished facial mapping in 3DXchange then you may freely lip-sync Non-standard Characters with Facial Puppet and Face Key Editting tools in iClone.
  • Unique Behaviors through Custom Expression Data:

  • Spring Multi-track for Natural Movement:

  • The slider control allows you to easily modify any character motion in your timeline.   • Motion Layer for Props:
  • Motion layers are no longer restricted to characters! Now all props can benefit from this non-destructive layering track which provides much more flexibility when it comes to customizing your animations.

  • Seamless Motion Connection:
  • The MixMoves (motion graph) system consists of hundreds of well-calculated, daily motions for top mocap quality. The system automatically generates natural transitions between previously selected motions for male or female actors. Its motion graph technology presents a general framework for human motion states to blend together, seamlessly. Storytellers simply need to select target motions under different states such as standing idle, sitting, kneeling or lying down. It then automatically sequences motions and blends them together in a natural, believable manner.
  • Body Motion Puppeteering:
  • You may use a mouse or any other handheld device to create an unlimited number of motion variations to reflect your character's personality. Users may select body parts and add puppet behaviors while they control their animations during playback or real-time recording.   • Human IK Motion Editing:
  • Licensed from Autodesk, the same core technology of Motion Builder for human motion control; iClone5 meets the highest standards of human bone structure and motion editing systems. Using Human IK as the core character engine allows your 3D characters to now have automatic floor contact while the intuitive real-time IK motion control keeps a proper body balance. Props also have motion controls with flexible motion adaptations such as holding a gun with both hands, or advanced person-to-person interactions such as shaking hands
  • Prop Puppet & Look At:
  • Use a mouse to freely control the movement, rotation, or scale of a prop and record its animation in real-time for authentic movement. With the Prop Puppet panel you will be able to simulate different object movements by using prop animation profiles to further customize movement, rotation or scale; with different X, Y, Z parameters.
  • Rigid Body:
  • Rigid body dynamics enable you to simulate objects with a high degree of realism such as fall, collide and bounce. All these movements are controlled by physics properties such as mass, elasticity, friction, damping, impulse, collisions, constraints and others. You may even add rigid body physics to any prop or character in order to add another dimension of interactivity between subjects.
  • Soft Body:
  • Soft body dynamics focus on realistic physical simulations that deform whole objects and singular planes such as clothes. Animations are now incredibly life-like as objects can accurately represent their elastic properties like rubber, squashed balls or jelly puddings. You may even simulate cloth effects, from a singular plane, with different material stiffness such as silk, linen or any other materials that will be affected by air resistance.
  • Visualization & Game Prototyping:
  • With the smart physics engine you are now able to correctly simulate formulas and concepts for use in math, physics, astronomy or any other real-world applications. With the live Prop Puppet controls and interaction, you can easily develop prototype games with marbles, pinballs, bowling balls and others.
  • Ambient Occlusion:
  • Ambient occlusion is a newly added shading method in iClone5 which helps add realism to models and scenes. It enhances edge shadows by simulating the attenuation of light due to occlusion. Ambient occlusion simply attempts to approximate the way light radiates in real life, especially off what are normally considered non-reflective surfaces.
  • Post FX & Toon Shading:
  • Cartoon rendering and cell shading allows animators to create a flat-looking 3D image with a cartoonish look, typically exemplified in artistically animated movies.   • The new generation of iClone characters provides a higher polygon count for head meshes which result in better facial expressions with natural head shapes. Additional chest bones can now emulate realistic breathing with proportional chest contractions.
  • G5 Cartoon Character (Gorf):
  • New cartoon characters like Gorf have the same character bones of other standard character which allow you to apply any motions, and make further IK/FK motion adjustments.
