File management is easier said than done. This is because it's not always as simple as moving some files from one location to the other, because doing this in complex directory structures becomes frustrating and takes a lot of time. This is where specialized applications like Horodruin come in handy as a simple solution of folder synchronization.
Running the application brings up a pretty compact and simple main window, with all the goodies hidden inside file menu entries and different configuration windows. The initial screen serves as a dashboard where you can trigger different processes and analyze operation states.
Since its main purpose is folder synchronization, you need to target at least two directories for the process to properly function. Make sure to create a backup of target files of the first run, or take it for a spin on dummy folders, so you don't risk losing important data, or better yet, take the time to go through the rich documentation.
It's enough to drag a target folder over the main window to bring up the source configuration screen. It enables you to browse for a source, but this is automatically filled if using drag and drop, specify label, write down alternate credentials to use, as well as a few filters and technical settings to manage.
You need to pay a great amount of attention to details when handling options in order for all to go smooth. By default, it's enough to select two folders to have them synchronized, meaning to fill them both with the same content.
With the source folders ready to go, you can run an analysis to view differences. Based on your configurations, files are then appropriately handled, which can mean transfer to another location and replacing an older version, copying new or missing content, and more.
The only thing missing is the possibility to have the application keep an eye on all changes and alert you or automatically take action. This means you constantly need to run analysis and sync processes, especially because of the lack of a scheduler component.
All things considered, we can safely state that Horodruin is a straightforward method of folder synchronization, with advanced content built-in as well. Although the interface and set of features might take some of your time with accommodation, the process of analyzing and synchronizing more folders at a time is flawlessly done according to your specifications.
