Traymond

Users generally try to avoid taskbar clutter, and a good way to do this is by sending certain applications to the system tray. However, not all programs can by minimized to the tray area, even some that should definitely offer this functionality.

Traymond is an open-source tool that enables you to send pretty much any application or window to the system tray with a convenient hotkey. The app is very unobtrusive, and you can bring back minimized windows by just double-clicking their tray icons.

If it sounds simple, that’s because it is. Once Traymond is launched, you can quickly send any window to the tray area by using the WIN + SHIFT + Z key combination. Mind you, we were unable to do this with a couple of apps during our test, but we did not encounter any issues with all the others.

When you want to bring them back to the foreground, you only need to double-click their tray icons. You can also restore all windows at once, and the application can even recover minimized windows if it is shut down unexpectedly.

You will probably be happy to learn that Traymond does not need to be installed before use, as you can run the app by simply launching the executable file from any location. A single data file is created to store minimized app info, and it is saved in the same folder as the EXE file.

Unfortunately, though, it is not possible to change the default key combination without grabbing the source code and compiling the app yourself. A simple configuration menu would be very helpful indeed.

In a nutshell, Traymond is designed to keep your taskbar free of clutter by minimizing various apps or windows to the system tray area. It works very well, even though a small number of programs don’t seem to be supported, runs quietly in the background and does not require installation.
