Why Can't I Connect? is a question you’ve certainly asked yourself when encountering Internet connectivity issues but is also the name of an application designed to help you analyze TCP/IP connection problems and figure out how to solve them.
The application is displayed in a user-friendly interface which offers you quick access to tests for SQL, MySQL, FTP, SFTP, IMAP, POP3, SMTP, IRC, LDAP and Usenet servers. For each connection type, you can use a window to enter the name or IP address and port number of the target machine.
Once the action is confirmed, Why Can't I Connect? runs a diagnostic of that connection and shows a message window with possible failure reasons. The application doesn’t resolve the issues but it provides useful information that can help you in that manner.
You also get to test connections for generic clients and create a generic server. The latter is a handy feature to have as it offers you a simple means of testing to see if a port is currently being used. The program enables you to bind a local IP address to a port on your system, as well as to connect a bound socket to a port.
In case the connection is active but you have trouble with the communication between the server and client, the application allows you to place Why Can't I Connect? between the two so it can analyze their data transfer. This way, you can trace sensitive data and maintain your privacy,as well as send messages and files to clients and servers without the need to recompile them.
In closing, Why Can't I Connect? is a great application to have when you don’t want to spend a great deal of time figuring out what the problem is when you can focus it in testing out potential solutions.
What's new in Why Can't I Connect? 1.12.4:
- Fixed a bug where the "Server Send" dialog and the "Server Shutdown" dialog where clipping the display of the connected socket handle.
- Removed the WiFi connect option. Lacking time and hardware to support this in all operating systems for all routers, I will reintroduce this option when possible (check the README file to restore this option at it’s current state while compiling.)
