WinTrace

WinTrace is a lightweight Windows solution that can be used for tracing the route between two different IPs.

Clearly an app aimed at professional users, WinTrace relies on what can be easily considered a minimal interface, with the layout supposed to turn it into a very straightforward GUI.

The main window is the one that takes care of everything because it lets users input a host name and trace the routing, with all information, including IPs, times and countries, displayed in a dedicated panel.

There’s no help section, that’s true, but since WinTrace is not quite addressed to rookies, those with a bit more experience should encounter absolutely no problem in trying to figure out the purpose of each tool.

The same applies to the settings menu as well because it allows you to update the IP-to-country file and the host name list, although several instructions are available this time.

WinTrace doesn’t slow down the system at all and it works smoothly on all Windows versions, without the need for administrator privileges on Windows 7 workstations. What’s more, it is fully portable, which means that you can always copy all its files on a removable drive and use it on the go without prior installation.

All things considered, WinTrace is a basic yet handy piece of software that does exactly what it says without assaulting the user with unnecessary features. It requires minimum user input and can be easily used by those with a bit more computer experience despite the lack of a help file.
