As the week approaches its end, we start to feel the need for a break. Basically, the week-end is the time when we all "come alive". But what happens if the weather messes up some plans?

Well, beside reading books, watching TV and some other stuff that can occupy one's time, there is this "mini-game playing" that concerns enough people to make me write a review about a game.

This week's pick is a puzzle game... and no wonder. Those are the addictive ones. Anyway, the title is "Diamond Detective" and of course it's just another "mystery case game" that you have to solve.

The story goes something like this. Some precious jewels have been stolen from the town of Gemopolis. I know the name of the city is not... brilliantly picked. Sounds like the town is made out of jewels. If that were the case, why the big fuss about some stolen jewels? It's the GEM TOWN... everybody can have a "taste" of them... they just grow out of the ground.

Even the game opens with a shadowy character that has sparkling eyes. We are all familiar with this kind of villain. But hey, it works... It's standard, but it works.

But letting aside this issue, let's just imagine that these jewels were some important... stuff. And the town was deprived of it. Without them, the survival of its inhabitants is at risk.

Now, normally The Commissioner asks for your help and you must "obey". You become the DIAMOND DETECTIVE (uuuuh!) and besides finding clues, you must create long chains of jewels. By doing that, you'll earn a clue. Earning clues will lead you to the thief... and this will lead to a closed, solved and classified case.

Easy huh? So why would you like this game? In the end, everybody likes a good mystery. Makes life less boring. The game is a "film noir style puzzle". Every stage that you enter for solving a puzzle is resting in a moonlit urban environment.

So, you have the board that is filled with colored gems: pink hearts, green emeralds, red rubies, purple diamonds, blue saphires and so on. In order to solve this puzzle you must match two (or how many you can) gems that are adjacent to one another. This way you'll form a chain of gems. After you gathered enough jewels from the board you just have to "submit" them and they will fall from the board.

The more gems you match, the faster the board cleans and thus you'll find one of the clues you need to solve the mystery. But you don't have all the time in the world for doing this. You will lose everything the moment when the shady figure creeps along the bottom of your screen.

But your detective work is not that easy. Going up in levels, additionally you'll be asked to look at a lineup of suspects. You'll have pictures and short descriptions of each, that are based on certain facts. Lost? Okay... Let's say that the clue you got at the end of the puzzle is a clean shirt. Your suspect is a miner. That is definitely not the individual you're looking for. Move on! This being a "mystery case", you'll probably feel the need for more "adrenaline" or something. But Diamond Detective is not that... intense. There are these time limits and hints that are very generous and maybe this will take away part of the thrill. But even so, the game is pretty pleasant.

All in all, Diamond Detective is a game that's worth your time, especially if you're one of those people that likes these challenging puzzles. Enjoy!
