Whether you like it or not, these kind of platformer games, like The Tuttles Madcap Misadventures, are the ones of the best genre when it comes to casual entertainment. True, you don't have much to do in them, but the simple action makes you stay in front of your PC, playing.

Now that we started talking about the action of the game, maybe we should clear that up. As a classic platformer, The Tuttles won't amaze you with some extraordinary movements of your characters. Aside from moving from left to right, jumping over obstacles, battling villains and picking up requested items, The Tuttles won't impress you much.

Or maybe it will... One of the reasons why that can happen is the fact that behind every game character lays a celebrity voice. We have Bob Saget in the role of the father Barry; Jamie Lee Curtis plays the role of the mother Barbara; Ashley Tisdale is the teenage daughter Jess and Dominic Scott Kay borrows his voice to the young son, Zach. But there are other characters too: Dave Thomas is the Australian, Dave Coulier is the Islander and the one and only William Shatner will give life to Vance, the family's high-tech mini-van.

But even with that hanging on the game's credits, at one point you'll get annoyed by the repetitive dialogues. Now, back to the game. It all starts with a not-so-short tutorial, in which Barbara (the mom) goes to the market. This stage is easy to follow, but long enough to annoy you a bit. First things first... You'll have to start collecting gems that you'll see scattered across the market. Getting them is not always easy. You'll have to jump around a lot. For this you'll use you arrow keys. To move from a level to another of the store, you can use the elevator that will redirect you exactly to the next level. Sometimes you'll bump into some huge boxes from which you can't jump. You will use your purse to hit them and break them. Jump over and move one collecting gems.

Also every level has different items that need to be collected. Each character has its own personal items to gather. During this stage you'll learn how to avoid enemies and some traps. Unfortunately some of these traps can't be avoided (like oil puddles). At the end of this stage Barbara will encounter her first enemy: a monkey. To avoid it all you have to do is to make your character jump on its head. When the monkey is destroyed, Barbara can collect a few more gems that spawn from it. The gems will add lots of points to the final score.

As soon as the tutorial is done, you'll get a short animation in which the father decides to take his family to Alamo in the brand new super-hi-tech-family-car. Here you'll meet a few more baddies: crows, eagles and trees. Your next level will be played with the car. You must guide it in the sky, avoid the birds and collects falling stars, life-buoys and other items. Each one of them will help somehow - so try collecting as many as you can.

At one point, the family will arrive in Egypt, but unfortunately the car will crash in the desert after its tank empties. And so, a new chapter starts with the head of the family (the dad) going in his quest to find fuel. New villains are included in this level: scorpions, snakes, boulders and so on. To destroy them all you have to do is jump on their heads. As you do so, some money and gold bars will spawn and you will collect them, as the other items that will get in your way. This level is pretty long, but at least you got a lot of action, a great scenery and nice music in the background, that goes perfectly with the game.

In the end, there's not much to say about this one. You have 40 levels to go doing the same thing with different members of the family. You'll go to changing the dialogs from member to member or from one scenery to another. Also you'll encounter different baddies and traps that you must survive. The game will most probably get repetitive, but it will entertain the kids as much those who are "kids at heart"...

Still one of the most valuable information about this game is the charity cause that stays behind it. $15 out of the $19.99 you give buying the game will go directly to the Starlight Children's Foundation.
