The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 2: A House Divided review on PC

The Walking Dead Season 1 delivered a great adventure experience based on the famous comic books but was not afraid of doing its own thing in the undead universe created by Robert Kirkman, which practically guaranteed a great cult following for developer Telltale Games.

Season 2 kicked off back in December of last year with its first episode, All That Remains, which introduced the new protagonist, Clementine, and started her new set of adventures.

Now, Episode 2: A House Divided has just been released and promises to continue the new storyline and introduce a bit more conflict, while hopefully rectifying a few issues encountered by players with the first chapter.

Does it deliver on these promises or should this house stay united for a longer time? Let's find out.

Play as Clementine ...
... and explore new areas

The Walking Dead games and more recent Telltale experiences like The Wolf Among Us have shined in terms of story and A House Divided is no exception, bringing fresh adventures for Clementine.

After finding a somewhat safe haven from the walkers in a house filled with other survivors, Clementine must now navigate the tricky social maze so that she doesn't annoy all of the new people she's met. This is easier said than done, especially when quite a few of them made their hostility clear in the first episode.

Besides interacting with these people, Clementine also needs to prove that she can handle her own weight. When a mysterious nemesis appears and forces her current group to flee, she must prove her allegiance to the new people even if she's known them for a very little while.

The story in the new episode is by far one of the most intense from both seasons, really highlighting just how gritty the world of The Walking Dead is. At the same time, however, you don't have that many choices in regards to changing the major outcome, so don't expect to make some sweeping changes based on your decisions.

In terms of gameplay, there's the same big emphasis on dialog, as you can choose what Clem says when talking with others. She can once again make or break relationships with different characters and even decide their fate depending on her attitude.

Pure gameplay is mostly based on reaction to certain events, such as zombie attacks, although there are a few sections where you can just explore the environment to find different objects that might prove useful in the future. The interactive moments are mostly comprised of standard quick time sequences, but even they are few and far between.

In terms of graphics, A House Divided retains the comic book style used by previous entries and doesn't really bring that many new things to the table, so don't expect major improvements. The framerate is still a bit choppy in some hectic scenes or when jumping from gameplay to cut scene, but it's not game-breaking.

The soundtrack is good, retaining the core feel of the series, while the voice acting certainly seals the deal, by making the characters feel alive even if the animations are still choppy.

Avoid the Walkers ...
... and arguments

Conclusion

The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 2: A House Divided is one of the strongest chapters yet in terms of story. Unfortunately, true gameplay sequences are a bit scarce, although some of the dialog scenes are certainly intense enough to make up for it in some regard.
