Most of us work with computers on a daily basis. The usage of the copy/paste function has its part, more or less important, according to everyone’s activities. When you copy a file or text, it is temporarily stored in the Clipboard. However, the Clipboard’s memory is very unstable and it can only store one item. A Clipboard manager, on the other hand, gives you the possibility to hold multiple items and paste them as many times as you want.

ArchiveClipboard is a simple tool designed to sit quietly in the system tray and monitor one's Clipboard’s activity. If activated, it will notify the user of any change that is made to the Clipboard's content. If one is working with standard text phrases, they can archive them with this utility and have them grouped in one place without needing to locate the exact file over and over again.

You can download and use this software for as long as you please, because it is free. The application doesn’t come with any special hardware requirements, so it should work on any average computer, but it does need JRE 1.6 to be installed on your system.

The first thing that you will certainly observe when opening ArchiveClipboard is the two-paned window. The upper part is dedicated to the system Clipboard and basically displays the current content of your Clipboard. You will also notice that this part is constantly changing: when a new text is copied, it replaces the one that was there before.

The other part is for the archived Clipboard content. Here, you will find all of the Clipboard entries that have been made from the moment you started the application. You will observe that this sub-window has two major folders: one dedicated to the text Clipboard entries and a File one that is designed to archive the image and file content.

This whole section can easily be managed with the help of the contextual menu. This menu offers the basic functions: cut, copy, paste and, of course, delete, and it also enables users to expand or to contract the created folder for a better view. The nice thing that is offered for the text entries is the Preview option. This way, you can see a text Clipboard entry in its entirety before you decide whether to keep it or not. In the case of the files, you can only see the location path, so you will have to manually open it. ArchiveClipboard will also display the size of the files that are archived.

The most important menu that this application has is the Preferences one. The first thing that you can customize is the type of files to be monitored. We have to mention that, if you have selected the option of the application to monitor files, the images will be archived in this folder. In order to create a special section for images, you will have to store an actual one in the Clipboard, not the file itself.

ArchiveClipboard can archive the files passing through the Windows Clipboard. It basically gives you the path to the documents that have been used with the copy/paste functions the most. Of course, this feature is useful for the ones that do a lot of copy/pasting and need to locate files and text with ease.

Next in line comes the Events sub-menu that will customize the application’s behavior when a new text or file is present in your Clipboard. Thus, you can select to be notified or not when a new entry is made.

The developer of ArchiveClipboard has thought about the users that want to have an up-to-date application at all times. Especially for the ones that connect through a proxy, there is the Network setting window that will let them set all the needed parameters to be used when wanting to access the update server of the application. And for the ones that just want a periodical update to be performed, there is the Update submenu that will help them do just that: check for updates.

The Run on Tray option is also very useful because you don’t have to worry about any of your Clipboard's content being lost or having an annoying application in your taskbar. Discretion is a word that can totally characterize this program.

All in all, this application will enable you to have quite a nice collection of important texts or files. This last feature is very interesting and, at the same time, it can be useful if you are copying the same files frequently.

The Good

This is a useful utility for the ones that need the content of their Clipboard: text or file. The fact that it’s free and really easy to use is also a very big plus.

The Bad

Well, the application is free, and it certainly is functional. All its options worked like a charm. As far as I'm concerned, there are no negative sides to this application, given the fact that it does its job beautifully.

The Truth

Truth be told, ArchiveClipboard will get the job done: it will monitor and archive your Clipboard entries fast and easily and will give you the tools to properly manage these entries.

Here are some snapshots of the application in action:
