When you're working with images and want to resize or rename them, a tool that can do that with just a few clicks might come in handy. EasyImageSizer promises to do that and more with the utmost ease.
Working with images is a daily job for some users. Others occasionally need to adjust the photos from their last vacation or another important event. And when that happens, we are all looking for a straightforward, easy to use tool that will resize as many pictures as possible at the same time. This is when EasyImageSizer comes to save the day.
This tool promises to help you adjust your images without altering the quality of the pictures it resizes. It's distributed under the GPL license, so it can be used for both personal and commercial use. Also, if you are a developer yourself, you can take the source code and improve this application.
First of all, you must select the pictures you want to resize. This can be accomplished by either adding them one by one, or loading a whole folder at once. The drag and drop functionality is also supported.
To ensure that you've selected the right images you can enable the Show preview of chosen Images option that will add a thumbnail in front of the image pathway. In what concerns file management options, EasyImageSizer offers the Clear list and Remove Image options.
All of the application customization options can be found in the Plugins window that can be accessed either through the designated button in the taskbar or through the Edit menu. It's true that it makes it quite hard for beginners to access them, and that might be seen as a drawback.
We've used 63 pictures to test this application and it's done the job very well by processing the all quite fast. The fact that it doesn't have any special requirements adds to its value. The resource usage is low, while processing images holding at only 20 MB RAM memory. So, it's a tool that can be successfully used on any average computer.
By default the Quality, Size, Rename and Overlay tabs will be active. The Quality tab is where the magic happens. You can select to keep the quality of the originated image or to adjust it. The JPG quality can be altered by dragging a slider with you mouse.
The EXIF plugin will help you rename your images using their EXIF data. The two options offers are: prepend or append and adding the text that you want to be used.
EXIF, Exchangeable Image file format for long, is an acronym used to express a specification of the image file format that stores interchange information for digital images.
Next in line comes the Overlay plugin that will help you add an overlay image. You must select it and you will have the same options as before: saving a copy of the original image, set the folder to use and the file type.
If you are looking for a simple renaming tool then the Rename plugin is the one to use. You can select to use the prefix or suffix. To add numbers you can enable the Use Counter option and set the counter start and decimals.
For more resizing options you can use the designated plugin that will allow you to set the size as a percentage of the original or in pixels. Just to make things a little easier EasyImageSizer gives you some predefined options: 1:1, 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 for the percentage size or VGA, XGA or PAL for the pixel one.
Last, but not least comes the Rotate plugin that will help you rotate your images, 180 degrees clockwise, counterclockwise or by a certain angle that you manually enter. Whatever plugin you choose to use, you can also enable to make a copy of the original image and to select the directory for the renamed images, set the file type for the renamed files. You can select from: JPG, BMP, PNG or TIFF.
In brief, EasyImageSizer will allow you to resize your images with just a few clicks. Also, the plugins will enable you to customize the image that you resize in quite a satisfactory way. The fact that you can also edit EXIF data also recommends it because it offers some advanced options in a very easy to use application.
The best thing about this tool is that everything is kept simple; all the functions are being offered in one window, so beginners will appreciate it. Also the GPL license recommends it because EasyImageSizer can be used in both commercial and home environments. Here are some snapshots of the application in action:
