14 DAY TRIAL // System optimizers are a very good thing when it comes to computers. Frequent optimizing of your machine leads to it performing better and results in you doing your work faster. There are lots of system optimizers on the Web and I could never say which one is the best because the developers include different features.
But I can say that the following software is a good one and does its job pretty good. It includes some of the most used options a user needs to make his/her computer act better. HS CleanDisk Pro is a software developed by Haysoft. They have brought the application to version 5.48 and they keep improving it. The installation file is a little over 2MB and the cost for maintaining your computer in tip top condition is $29.
The interface is not at all bad looking and the icy blue keeps your eyes relaxed. At launching the application, you will notice that the Files button is activated and the software is ready to begin its work. The Files tab is dedicated to clean the computer of the file you no longer need. The File Cleaning Options give you the possibility of selecting types of files you want the application to scan for (garbage file extensions, Internet cache files, cookies, Internet history, etc.).
A big surprise was to see that this is not the only thing to be done in the Files section. The user can also configure the program to find duplicate files by extension or duplicates no matter if they have the same name or not (Equivalents section). If you want to disable some of the shares, the software will list all the folders and will allow you to change their properties. In Wipe Files you can add folders or files and permanently delete them.
Registry Cleaning, the second menu of the software, finds the unused registry entries and deletes the items you select. Data backup is achieved by clicking on the secure button (the yellow lock) before the deletion of the files takes place and, after deleting the files, it is enough to click on the Restore button (the last icon in the row) for the files to come back into their original place.
Processes menu has two submenus, one for the currently running processes and one for those in startup. The legend beneath their display will tell you what the icons next to them signify. The user can terminate memory eating processes or change their priority. Some of them are accompanied by a brief description and you can also see the amount of memory they are using, how much of your CPU they are soliciting. The startup processes can only be removed (those that occupy memory and CPU resources for nothing). Software listing functions exactly as Add and Remove option in Windows Control Panel. After the listing is complete, you can choose the softwares to uninstall. The difference between the two uninstalling options is that HS CleanDisk can perform batch uninstall and you can remove more than one software at a time. Just select the softwares and click Uninstall.
Resources is the place where you want to get to when you need a memory optimization, check the info about the CPU, space on your drives, view a chart representation of the directories or have a sorted display of the folders on your drives. To reclaim unused memory, the user just has to press the Regain button in the lower right side of the application window and, shortly after this, s/he will see a modification in the memory representation.
Advanced menu is a real asset of the software as it makes available options in Windows that some of you did not even know about: Disk Partition Manager, System Configuration Utility, Driver Verifier Utility, Utility Manager, etc.
Optimization submenu shelters utilities like Force Windows to Unload DLLs from Memory, Terminate Idle tasks, Control the System Cache, Increase CPU priority to real time. You should be aware that some of the tasks may require rebooting your machine in order to be applied.
Security deals with protection options as backing up the Outlook Express mail rules and blocked senders, disabling password caching in Internet Explorer or emptying the temporary Internet files on exiting. The process is simple as all there is to it is select the desired tasks and press the Apply button.
Cleaning is designed to clean the data of major software and specific areas of Windows. If your Internet seems to be slower than usual, then you can speed up the Internet usage both for downloading and browsing in Internet Accelerator.
After you have made all your settings, check out the last submenu of the Advanced menu to see if the software got it right. You will be displayed the applied tasks and their category.
The Good
Nice and easy to use application. Every task and option is equipped with an info balloon explaining what that task is good for and what it does.
The Bad
I did not like the Functions submenu under Advanced as they are mere shortcuts to what Windows already offers. I have the feeling that there is something missing, but I cannot quitte put my finger on it right now, but that's just me.
The Truth
I liked the software despite the fact that it provides shortcuts to Windows built-in applications. It is worth trying at least for the trial period.
