Restore Point Creator has been designed as a simple solution for managing restore points on Windows operating system.

Although System Restore is an old feature in Windows, there are plenty of users that do not use it. One of the reasons less advanced users bring is that options are slightly difficult to reach and configure.

However, the feature has been especially developed for everyone that is not a computer expert as it allows them to work with the computer without having to go through time consuming, painstaking actions to make repairs in case something goes wrong due to installing various programs.

In fact, System Restore is like an “undo” function for the operating system as it allows reverting the computer to a previous, healthy state. It does not affect personal information, only the operating system and the programs available.

Moreover, it creates snapshots of the system state automatically on a daily basis or whenever system-related tasks occur and upon installing a new application. The restore points can also be created manually.

Restore Point Creator consists of a single interface that incorporates all the necessary options for handling the snapshots easily and without any fuss.

The application is free of charge and installs in a jiffy without any attempt to push-third party software on the system.

Looks are much less than impressive, a clear sign that the developer’s focus was on functionality rather than aesthetics.

The main screen reveals all that the options available in Restore Point Creator. All available restore points are displayed complete with the data and time of creation as well as their type and a brief description.

You can choose to restore or delete any of them either from their context menu or from the buttons below the list. If confirming the deletion is turned on and multiple entries are selected, then you have to give your approval for each of them.

The developer makes available a set of additional utilities that ease the management of the snapshots. There is the possibility to control the total amount of disk space that should be used for this sort of files.

System protection feature in Windows can be activated per each drive, and there is the possibility to set a limit for the space allotted for the restore points.

Restore Point Creator displays all the details relating to the disk space usage for each of the volumes. The information includes the maximum amount of space dedicated for restore points as well as the size they currently occupy.

Managing the storage space can be done easily for each of the volumes, by simply selecting the drive and defining the desired value in bytes, kilobytes, gigabytes, and terabytes or in percentage.

Creating a new checkpoint is carried out in the same way as if done from Windows. Everything happens in the background, and when the job is finished, a message informs that the task completed. Then a new entry is added to the list of current restore points.

Scheduling the creation of a new checkpoint is an equally easy job. The program turns to the Task Scheduler utility built into Windows for this operation. At the first run, a message pops up informing that Restore Point Creator needs to be installed in a safe location that can be easily accessed for the task to be included in the list of scheduled jobs.

This should not be a problem, though, as the program installs in the default “Program Files” folder, which does not create any problem; however, the warning is more likely for the portable version of the app, whose executable can reside anywhere on the disk.

In order to avoid having to deal with too many entries, the developer added a new option that allows you to get rid of the old entries automatically. You get to choose the maximum age of each checkpoint.

Restore Point Creator makes management of system checkpoints easy even for beginner users as all the necessary options are available in a single user interface that does not require too much effort to understand.

It offers control over all aspects relating to restore points, from choosing the ones that should be deleted to creating a new checkpoint or deciding over the maximum amount of space this type of files should be allotted.

The Good

The application is free of charge and provides all the options required for easy managing of system restore points.

Those that do now want to go through the installation process of the application can download the portable version.

It provides a scheduling function and the possibility to automatically delete the entries depending on how old they are (an option introduced in the currently reviewed version of the application).

The Bad

Disk Space Usage screen could use some improvements as the bars showing disk space occupation level are constantly flashing, which makes them distracting. Also, the details are not presented in the clearest way.

The Truth

Restore Point Creator is just an interface for the System Protect functions present in Windows, but because it gathers all of them under a single roof, it turns into a better way to handle restore points than how Microsoft figured out the whole thing.
