Considering the ever growing need for disk space, managing every file that you might have could be quite problematic. Forget about the days when you had 10 to 20 GB of hard disk space and you thought you would never fill it up. Nowadays, not even 320 GB can guarantee you will not be tormented with the "Insufficient drive space" message. It has become clear to everyone that the good old Windows Explorer has become obsolete, and can no longer face the increasing number of directories that you need to browse.

With UltraExplorer, getting lost in your own files will become a thing of the past, and you won’t even have to write down the paths for different directories. UltraExplorer offers a simple and elegant way of storing relative paths to different directories, just like bookmarks, so you can always return to the desired location with a single mouse click. You can even perform command line instructions by enabling the Command Line Window that is placed at the bottom of your working space, so that you will not be bothered by it. This is a handy feature whenever you need to run different DOS applications that normally don't run in windowed mode.

This powerful file manger has the ability to remember every location that you have visited, just in care you forget where you came from. This feature can come in handy whenever you need to copy one file from one location to another, in different parts of your HDD.

UltraExplorer has a Viewer window that enables you to easily preview any selected text file. All you have to do is click on a .txt file, and you will be able to read its content in the Viewer window. All of the opened docking windows can be closed and magnified, for a better visualization of their content. If you ever need to view the content of a docked window in a full window mode, simply drag it from the docking bar and maximize it.

Another great thing about UltraExplorer is that it supports the ability to open the content of a folder in a new tab. Just like a web browser, UltraExplorer also has tabs that can be closed with a double click on them. This amazing feature enables you to keep everything well organized, and to browse only the files or folders that you need to.

What would a file manager be without the ability to support skin changing? The answer is simpler than you might have thought – it wouldn't be UltraExplorer. From the Tools dropdown menu, you can easily choose one of the predefined themes so that the extensive use of the default one does not end up by boring you completely. To be honest, this is quite a good idea given that countless users like to personalize their applications according to their own personal style. This, of course, makes UltraExplorer an application that can suit the needs of virtually any user out there.

Let’s forget for a second about UltraExplorer, and say that you are still using your “precious” Windows Explorer. Are you not tired yet of having to copy-paste your way out of different file locations, or to open multiple instances of the same Explorer window? If not, then, by all means, keep doing what you're doing, but I assure you that, with this file manager, you will never lose the location of any folder ever again. You will be able to browse, search, organize, and even filter files and folders like you have never done before. Don't look at UltraExplorer as a fancy new piece of software that is getting too much credit for what it can do. In fact, the abundance of features and options it comes with are there for a reason, and that is to help you. Believe me when I say that UltraExplorer will increase your efficiency and improve your workflow.

Also take into consideration that this is a free software and you don't have to pay a single cent to benefit from its features, nor are there any time limitations in place for its use. From the moment you install it, you are the rightful user of a file manager that could very well compete in the same class as any other paid software. What this actually means is that you can benefit from the same features for no price at all.

The Good

UltraExplorer impresses by coming with a wide range of features and options, and by supporting full customization of any component. Although workspace might become a bit crowded with toolbars and docking panels, you will definitely use every one of these features.

The Bad

Although I'm inclined to say there are no downsides to it, I have to say that UltraExplorer could really use more shell extensions. These could be of use from outside the application, when you need to add new folders to your favorite list, or even to open the application from the context menu.

The Truth

UltraExplorer is a powerful and useful file manager, with extensive options that have proved to be of use in any situation. There are no unnecessary toolbars or buttons, as everything is built to be optimized and easy to access.
