Christmas is now on our doorstep and it's time we sit back and enjoy the Christmas carols and the decorations as the holiday spirit fills and warms our hearts. Once ''the season to be jolly'' arrives, besides decking the halls, as the beautiful carol goes, we should do something to light up not only our house, but also our workspace. For many of us, the computer is that particular space to fill and dress it in holiday clothes we shall.

If you're not a big fan of winter or Christmas themes, the least you can do is decorate a tree. No need to buy one however, because the artificial or, better said, digital ones are cheap and look just as good every day of the year. Well then, if I caught your attention and you wish to get your hands on the best there is, you've come to the right place cause it so happens that we have something ready for you. It's called Wishawish Tree, and it's pretty, shiny, and free.

What can you do with such a tree then, you might ask? Quite a lot, to be frank. All you'll need is the Adobe AIR runtime installed on your system and you're good to go. Installing this application is a breeze and it will make your time worthwhile by lighting up your desktop. What makes this Christmas tree special is not only the variety of decorations you can use to adorn it, but also the fact that it will make for a perfect place to put the e-cards you receive from your friends.

Wishawish Tree brings you not one but three different trees to choose from and dozens of ornaments to put on your desktop Christmas tree. The aforementioned e-cards come in ten flavors and you can add as many as you wish. The size of the tree will not give you any headaches because it is customizable. Simply right-click it and you'll see the menu that allows you to increase or decrease its size. What's more, you can do exactly the same thing with each individual decoration or e-card. All these items can be moved anywhere on the tree once you place them and if you think some of them are too much, to remove them you can right-click and choose this option from the menu of the ornament.

This application will enable you to customize more than the mere looks of the cards. Actually, you can easily individualize every one of them by writing a small description, the web address of the e-card and, most importantly, who sent it to you. All these details are revealed if you simply hover the mouse cursor over the card. When you double click an e-card the URL address you specified in the description will be opened instantly in your Internet browser so you can view the virtual card.

The eye-catching, smooth finish of the ornaments along with the sparkle option activated will please your eyes and make you yearn for more. You should note that this splendid tree can be dragged across the desktop and it will also load in the exact form you leave it after shutting down the computer. You can set Wishawish Tree to load at startup so you'll enjoy it as soon as Windows starts.

All this beauty, though, comes at a price. Fortunately, it is paid in no other currency than RAM and CPU. The glittering tree loaded with decorations will take its toll on your system resources, but it's a small price to pay for having a unique, high-quality Christmas tree on your desktop. It's very hard to get bored because you can always change the ornaments and the whole tree if necessary, things rather hard if not impossible to do with a real-life one.

The Good

Almost everything about this software is great, from visual aspects to functionality, with an accent on the e-card-dedicated functionality that allows you to keep the Christmas messages received from your friends in a smart and pleasant way. The software comes with plenty of decorations and e-card models for you to choose from. Another good thing you'll notice immediately is the fact that every item is resizable, a very useful feature because you can fit Wishawish Tree anywhere on any display.

The Bad

The only noticeable downside about this Christmassy software is the fact that it is quite heavy on system resources, eating up memory and loading the processor. Its eye-candy ornaments and special effects are to be blamed for this, but how can you really be upset when it comes to something that looks really good?

The Truth

All things considered, I think it's safe to say that we have on our hands a great utility that was designed to bring you the Christmas spirit and does that with flying colors. For each moment you spend decorating the beautiful tree, you will be rewarded by its glittering beauty once the adornment is complete. Definitely an application for you to have and share with your friends!
