In order to add a new item, you need to input a description, the targeted hostname or IP address, then select the preferred 'Check Method', either 'Ping' or 'Socket Connection', in the case of the latter requiring that you establish the 'Socket Settings' by choosing between the TCP and UDP log as well as by entering the port number.

Moreover, Check Host allows you to establish the time interval between each verification, by typing in the preferred number of seconds. Similarly, you can decide the 'Timeout' duration, in milliseconds.

The utility can notify you when your host is no longer available, either on your desktop or via email, to an address that you input. Optionally, it can run a user-defined program until the host becomes available once more. Check Host's activity can be written in a log file, enabling you to review it later and verify if there were any ups and downs in the connection.
