What it is?
What is this Greed you speak of
Greed is a procedurally-generated roguelike-like action RPG in which you explore dungeons, collect gold and powerups, find and use a variety of magical rings, fight big scary bosses and mine about the place like a champ. It’s inspired by a lot of different games, including Gauntlet, Diablo, Smash TV, Pixel Dungeon, The Binding of Isaac and a bunch of other stuff besides.
Greed is currently in a very early, pre-alpha stage - there’s a level generator, some power-boosting rings, a handful of enemies and basic gameplay mechanics, but there’s a lot more to come. More loot, more rings, more enemies, an inventory, a crafting system, a leveling system, deeper and darker dungeons and heck, maybe some kind of story.
I’ll be posting updates as regularly as I can, and you can play the latest build in the Play it section.
And how did this Greed come to be
Greed is being developed in Construct 2 by me, lolpaca. I’ve been working on it off and on since around January 2014, when I started getting interested in procedural level generation. I’ve always been a big fan of roguelikes, so I decided to have a go at making my own - once I’d built a level generator I was happy with, I created in a lighting system, made the terrain destructible, added in a greedy little dwarf, then some rats, then some spiders, then some magic rings and… it just turned into this, really.
I’ve been making games since small times, but Greed is the biggest project I’ve undertaken so far. I don’t currently know what the long-term plans are - I’ll come back to that when it’s approaching a more finished state. Getting it made’s the biggie right now :)
And who done all the pretty graphics
The main dungeon tileset was custom-drawn by Mitch Cosh, the developer of Dungeon Buster, and Ty Lagalo, the artist for Shipwreck. Additional assets, including most of the dungeon furniture, have been lovingly drawn by Rick Payne of Playing With Pixels.
Everything else, including the dwarf and enemy sprites, is a combination of stuff I’ve sourced from OpenGameArt, sprites from old games, and my occasional ham-fisted attempts at drawing things for myself.
Any sprites that have not been custom-made are placeholder - they’ll be replaced as and when I get more custom art drawn. If you’re the copyright holder for any of the graphics or sound I’m currently using and you don’t want me using it any more, please drop me a message and I’ll be happy to remove it.
