New in Acronis Backup for VMware 9.0.9767 (Aug 28, 2013)

  • Acronis vmProtect 9 is built specifically for VMware vSphere and provides all the features you need for optimal backup and restoration. The easy-to-use solution can be deployed in minutes, so you can quickly begin backing up your vSphere environment.
  • Applications Support:
  • In addition to Microsoft Exchange granular recovery, new application-aware single-pass agentless technology provides consistent and reliable protection of Microsoft SQL Server, SharePoint and Active Directory data. It supports truncating transaction logs to avoid disk overflow, prevents USN rollback and allows extraction of individual documents from a SharePoint content store.
  • Centralized Dashboard:
  • A centralized Web dashboard makes it simple to view status updates on multiple Acronis vmProtect installations. You can easily monitor and manage backups in large or highly distributed environments from a single web page.
  • Configuration Restore:
  • The new option to save and restore Acronis vmProtect configurations ensures full protection. All configurations, including tasks and settings, can be exported to a file and imported to the same installation, or to any other vmProtect installation.

New in Acronis Backup for VMware 8.0.8184 (Dec 27, 2012)

  • Changes:
  • Enabled hot-add functionality for vSphere 5.0+ environments in cases where vSphere Essentials or lesser VMware license is used. Now, LAN-free backup/replication is available for all types of vSphere licenses (5.0+) when using Virtual Appliance-based installation of Acronis vmProtect.
  • Virtual Appliance now runs third-party custom VMware tools which support guest OS operations, i.e. you can shutdown/reset/reboot/power off the Virtual Appliance through VMware tools scripts which didn’t work before. There is no longer a warning about non-updated VMware tools in vSphere client.
  • The warning about missing/outdated VMware tools has been moved to information trace, so now there will be no warning in the log file upon backup or replication of a VM without VMware tools.
  • The 60 re-try limit has been removed and you can now adjust the number of retries up to 100,000 (Backup Options->Error Handling).
  • Added information about how many licenses are required for backup/replication of selected set of VMs to the backup and the replication wizards if there are insufficient licenses.
  • Added support for installation of Acronis vmProtect Windows Agent onto UEFI-based systems. In fact, this support is already present in the RTM build of Acronis vmProtect 8 and has been thoroughly tested by our QA team. Therefore, we can now support of this type of installation.
  • Added the ability to backup replica VMs. The “Show replicas” option is added to the 1st step of the backup wizard.
  • Common fixes:
  • Fixed compatibility issue with Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5. Now, you can install Acronis vmProtect Windows Agent onto a machine which has Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5 (build 32308+) already installed.
  • Added support for ESXi 5.1 for ESXi configuration backup functionality. Now, you can backup ESXi 5.1 configuration.
  • Significantly improved archive browsing algorithm (added caching mechanism). Now, loading the list of available recovery points in View->Recovery Points or in restore/failback wizards is up to 20 times faster than before.
  • Fixed the incorrect sorting of recovery points which occurred when recovery points were created by the 7th or 8th versions of Acronis vmProtect within the same archive. (Previously, the old recovery points were on top instead of the new ones.)
  • Backup/restore/validation:
  • Fixed the backup to Acronis Online Backup storage failure which would occurred when there was more than 1 tasks backing up into the same account. This failure caused a conflict and the archives could not be created properly. In this scenario, the backup task started first could hang.
  • Fixed the inability to back up into different Acronis Online Backup subscriptions under the same account when using 2 or more Acronis vmProtect Virtual Appliances with different activated subscriptions. Previously, backups from all Virtual Appliances were backing up into 1 subscription despite the fact that there were 2 or more subscriptions activated under one Acronis Online Backup account.
  • Fixed the inability to back up all VMs from a selected ESX(i) host. This would occur, if the entire host was selected for backup in the backup wizard and the host contained VM templates. In this scenario, the backup could fail with “Instances list is empty” or “Failed to find registered virtual machines” errors.
  • Fixed wrong time-stamps (1 hour difference) in e-mail notifications sent after backup/replication for specific time zones.
  • Fixed the backup failure which occurred when the backed up VM had an empty ‘instanceUuid’ property in vSphere (rare case).
  • Fixed the recovery warning about a non-restored network adapter which occurred when the virtual network name where the backed up VM was connected to contained non-ASCII symbols. Now, such networks are properly restored.
  • Fixed the incorrect virtual hardware version on the restored VM. Previously when you restored a VM which had virtual hardware version 7 onto a ESXi 5.1 host, the restored VM had virtual hardware version 8.
  • Fixed the inability to back up an ESXi configuration which occurred in cases that had a datastore with non-ASCII symbols in its name.
  • Replication:
  • Fixed the inability to create a new (or edit existing) replication task which occurred in cases when there was insufficient free space on datastore detected. Now, the replication wizard is not blocked despite the warning message and you can still create and run this task (even though it may fail due to insufficient free space).
  • Exchange support:
  • Fixed very long e-mail browsing or mailbox recovery in cases when there were many Exchange transaction logs at the moment of the backup. Now, these logs are not rolled up and, therefore, do not affect the browsing/recovery speed.

New in Acronis Backup for VMware 8.0.8128 (Oct 22, 2012)

New, state-of-the-art vmFlashBack technology brings your virtual servers back to life 100 times faster than before. For even faster recovery, simply run the VM from its backup or start the VM created by replication.
  • vCenter Integration and Intuitive Web Interface:
  • Perform backup and recovery tasks from the VMware vCenter interface you're already using to manage your virtual environment, or use Acronis vmProtect 8 's intuitive Web interface. With practically zero learning curve, you can quickly start performing backup and recovery tasks for your VMs, even from a mobile device.
  • Unlimited P2V/V2V migrations:
  • Included at no additional cost, unlimited physical-to-virtual migrations or virtual-to-virtual migrations from another hypervisor to VMware vSphere, allows you to accelerate virtualization by using award-winning Acronis imaging technology to move physical servers or virtual machines from other hypervisors to VMware vSphere.

New in Acronis Backup for VMware 7.0.5173 (Jun 28, 2012)

  • Management from vCenter – in addition to its web-based interface introduced with v6, vmProtect 7 integrates into VMware vSphere Client console so you can backup and recover virtual machines directly from vCenter UI. Choose to use one or both interfaces to perform backup and recovery tasks.
  • Microsoft Exchange Server Recovery – if you’re already running Microsoft Exchange Server in a virtual environment, vmProtect 7 will be an ideal fit, as it ensures that its image-level VM backup contains a recoverable copy of the Exchange database and handles transaction logs appropriately. It can even recover selected mailboxes, e-mail messages, calendar items, tasks, or contacts from the VM backup, or extract entire .edb database in a consistent state.
  • Replication – all-in-one product includes both backup and incremental near-continuous replication to a stand-by machine.
  • Disaster Recovery Plan – are you sure that if disaster strikes, someone who knows how to recover lost data will be available and knows exactly what to do? An automatically generated Disaster Recovery Plan document provides detailed step-by-step recovery instructions that even a novice can follow.
  • ESXi Bare Metal Recovery – protecting virtual machine is only part of the story. vmProtect 7 is the first product that offers live backup of ESXi host itself, with ability to recovery to a bare metal server, even with dissimilar hardware.

New in Acronis Backup for VMware 7.0.5155 (May 5, 2012)

  • Common:
  • The backup performance has been improved by ~30% for vSphere 5.0 based environments by using new drivers in Acronis vmProtect 7 Virtual Appliance.
  • Backup/restore:
  • Fixed an issue where several backup tasks running simultaneously could hung up while applying retention rules to the archives in case these archives are stored in the same location)
  • Exchange support:
  • There was a special small Agent added into Acronis vmProtect 7 installation package (Exchange Backup Agent) which can be installed inside the Exchange VM in order to overcome the UAC limitations. With this Agent installed there is no need to disable UAC during Exchange-aware backup:
  • Fixed an issue where recovery of several single e-mails or other items (E-mail browsing) leaded to recovery of entire mailbox.
  • Replication:
  • Fixed an issue where replication tasks continuous attempts caused “Failed to run script…” and “Failed to download…” errors and therefore replication failure.
