Security: Now all Actual Tools runtime executables natively support the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) and Address Space Layout Randomization (ASLR) security technologies provided by the system. That hardens the overall system security by preventing various exploit attacks.
Multiple Monitors: The option "On internal borders only" has been added to the "Wrap the Desktop" feature.
Per-application Audio Device Switcher: The overall robustness is improved.
Per-application Audio Device Switcher: Sound switching now works in other Chromium-based browsers, like Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Yandex.Browser.
To make a browser compatible with Audio Switcher, you must insert the following key into a command line of a browser's launching shortcut:
--disable-features=AudioServiceSandbox
Mouse Drag and Scroll: Now the "Make the entire window area responsive to dragging/sizing" feature is compatible with the Chromium-based apps: Google Chrome and other web browsers (Brave, Opera, Vivaldi, Yandex.Browser), Slack, WhatsApp, MS Teams, Upwork, Spotify, etc.
Title Buttons: Numerous fixes and improvements in Chromium-based apps:
Glyphs on extra buttons did not change their color when toggling an app's window active/inactive
Automatic gradual compact mode did not work in Opera and Vivaldi (so the extra buttons covered the browser tabs and the "New tab" button)
Note: If you have specific windows settings for these browsers (either factory or custom) then you need to reset there the "Title Buttons > Options > Shift the buttons horizontally" value back to 0 to make the gradual compact mode work properly.
In some cases current title bar color could not be detected correctly, and the glyphs looked wrong (e.g. white in the Light visual theme)
Windows 11, Alt-Tab Task Switcher: Task switcher windows did not show up on secondary monitors. Also, white full-screen windows might appear on secondary monitors after invoking the Alt-Tab Task Switcher.
Known issue: In this version, secondary task switcher windows do not react on mouse actions yet.
Windows 10+, Actual Taskbar: Taskbar button icons for Metro apps were contrast white-black instead of their colorful versions in the Light visual theme.
Windows 10+, Actual Taskbar: Some Metro apps (like Notepad, WhatsApp, Telegram Desktop, Trello, TradingView, and others) did not launch properly from their buttons pinned to Actual Taskbar.
Windows 10, Actual Taskbar: System tray icons (like Network or Sound Volume) did not change their color properly after toggling the Light/Dark visual theme.
Windows 11, Actual Taskbar: List of knows issues in this version (subject to fix in the near future updates, last checked on Windows 11 Version 22H2, build 22621.1848):

Memory consumption and overall system load is slightly reduced.
In some rare cases multi-window applications might crash silently after closing and re-opening a window of the same type (e.g. separate message window in email client).
Desktop Divider: Now tile preview works faster and looks more consistent.

Title Buttons: Compatibility with Bluebeam Revu is improved.
After exiting and then starting Actual Multiple Monitors back, some features in some applications might work erratically.
In multi-window applications memory leaked slightly after each cycle of closing a window and then opening two windows in a row.
Excel 2007+ hung after closing some of its standard dialogs: Protect Sheet, Conditional Formatting, Chart Data, etc.
In some cases Control Center might get stuck in memory after exiting Actual Multiple Monitors.
Actual Taskbar: In some scenarios tray icons of some specific apps did not update properly.
Save Idle Screens: idle screen savers started exactly on 1 minute of idle time no matter what actual idle time-out value was specified.
Windows 11, Title Buttons: In some system applications (e.g. Windows Paint) unwanted visual effects might appear if any extra buttons were added to their windows.
Title Buttons: X1 Search hung at startup if any extra buttons were added to its window.
Title Buttons: In some specific applications (especially having windows with non-standard frames) title buttons might appear invisible.
Title Buttons: In some specific applications (e.g. X1 Search, SnagIt!) the Compact View popup toolbar appeared empty.
Title Buttons: In some cases, extra buttons might not work in MDI windows.
Window Actions, Mouse: The support for windows with a non-standard window frame to intercept clicks on a title bar, sizeable border, and standard Minimize/Maximize/Close buttons to invoke assigned mouse actions, as well as to prevent accidental window closing, added in the previous version, did not work in systems before Windows 10.
Configuration: For some combinations of non-default font and non-default font size, the layout of controls got messed in the "Options" group of the "Title Buttons" property sheet.
Configuration: The Send to Tech Support feature did not recognize Windows 11 marking the sent configurations as Win10-built.

Some internal components are made more concurrency-friendly by removing redundant locks and eliminating bottlenecks that might cause a noticeable system slowdown on multi-core CPUs in some scenarios.
Internal consumption of memory and system resources is slightly reduced, some memory/resource leaks are fixed.
Window Actions, Hotkeys: Applying any manual alignment to a window via extra window menu command broke the correct functioning of the Quick Alignment Numpad hotkeys.
Window Actions: Applying a manual alignment with some horizontal or vertical position shift specified and then resizing the window by the Resize action did not retain the specified shift(s) making the window jump to a certain monitor border closely.
Window Actions: The "Display current window position" feature did not activate when a window was being resized either by its top-right or bottom-left corner.
Window Actions: Windows did not rolled up completely on a secondary monitor if its DPI resolution was less than primary's.
Window Actions, Mouse: The support is added for windows with a non-standard window frame to intercept clicks on a title bar, sizeable border, and standard Minimize/Maximize/Close buttons to invoke assigned mouse actions, as well as to prevent accidental window closing.
Window Actions: Now the Freeze mode can be toggled via "Options > Stay always-on-top" submenu in window's system menu.
Window Actions, Multiple Monitors: The Move to Monitor action now works more accurately in the "Keep aspect ratio" mode when moving a window between monitors with different both display and DPI resolutions (calculation of both the window location and size has been improved).
Window Actions, Mouse: The "Maximize horizontally/vertically" mouse actions work again in a "toggle" manner (i.e. restore the previous window size on a second click).
Window Actions: Smooth rolling up is improved.
Window Settings, Windows 7+: Another proper specific settings did not apply to a File Explorer window with some specific settings already applied when its caption changed after switching to a certain folder and the Explorer option "Display the full path in the title bar" was on.
Windows 11, Multiple Monitors, Window Actions: Applying the Move to Monitor action to maximized windows produced unwanted behavior and visual glitches. To prevent this, the "Enable compatibility mode for maximized windows" option now is enabled by default (see the "Window Settings > Global Options > Move to Monitor" panel).
Windows 10: Some improvements for UWP apps:
extra menu commands added by Actual Window Menu are finally available in the system window menu invoked by a title bar right click
mouse actions assigned to a title bar and standard title buttons now work as expected
the Quick Settings dialog now can be invoked by a title bar click (middle button by default)
Window Actions: Some fixes and improvements for the Monitor Selector dialog:
in the "Move to" mode, the dialog closes after releasing the left mouse button only if some real movement can be made, otherwise the dialog stays active
in the "Move to" mode, dragging the window preview thumbnail is improved
now drawing is faster due to removing some redundant operations
in UWP apps, the dialog did not activate after being invoked
title bar did not scaled properly to a current DPI resolution
in some cases, visual glitches might appear when drawing active dots in the "Move to" mode

Internal security has been accurately revised and tightened to follow the
principle of least privilege (in particular, for kernel objects used for
inter-process communication).
Internal error handling has been revised and improved for better
interoperability with apps using .NET runtime (and probably some other
frameworks).
Internal handling of display-related information has been optimized to
reduce the overall delay after changing the desktop geometry (i.e.
attaching/detaching a monitor or changing a monitor resolution).
Actual Taskbar: Compatibility with Open-Shell Start Menu is restored.
In some rare cases some apps might get hung after reapplying their window
settings or unloading Actual Multiple Monitors.
Mouse: Moving a mouse (either freely or holding the left button pressed)
imposed unwanted CPU consumption if the "Tight monitor boundaries" option

Mouse, Windows 7+ x64: If a 32-bit app that installs system-wide mouse hook
was launched after Actual Multiple Monitors then clicking the right mouse
button in any 64-bit console app's window (Command Prompt, Power Shell,
etc.) made ActualMultipleMonitorsCenter.exe "run away", therefore hogging
the CPU heavily.
Title Buttons, Windows 7+: MS SQL Server Management Studio got hung after
trying to close it via "File -> Exit" menu command if any extra buttons were
added to its main window's title bar.
Title Buttons, Windows 10 x86 build 19041+: UWP apps crashed at startup if
any extra buttons were added to their window's title bar.
Title Buttons: Mozilla Firefox got hung after activating an Adobe Flash
element in a web page, if any extra buttons were added to its window's
title bar.
Title Buttons: In some cases the Move to Monitor button's tooltip displayed
incorrect monitor index (e.g. when a window was moved to another monitor
using the alignment dots in the "Move to..." dialog).
Title Buttons, Slack for Desktop 4.5+: Extra buttons covered new elements in
Slack window' title bar (like Search edit box, Help button, or user's avatar
button).
Desktop Divider: The following bugs are fixed:
Tile layout frame's right/bottom border did not display on secondary
monitors
Tile layout frame's thickness did not scale propery in high DPI
resolutions
CPU consumption skyrocketed needlessly when moving a mouse over
a tile layout's preview in the "Put into" helper dialog
Tile preview sometimes did not update correctly when moving a mouse

Mirroring: Launching a window mirror with loose criteria (e.g. "Program"
only) could result in capturing an improper window (like tooltip).
Mouse Drag and Scroll: Pale Moon got hung after activating an Adobe Flash
element in a web page if the "Make the entire window area responsive to
dragging/sizing" feature was enabled.
Window Actions, Mouse: Custom mouse action "Move to monitor - Having mouse
pointer" could be applied only once to a certain window.
Window Actions, Mouse: In some cases, "Maximize horizontally" or "Maximize
vertically" mouse actions did not work as expected on their first call.
Window Actions: Windows of Mozilla-based apps (Firefox, Thunderbird,
Pale Moon, etc.) could not be resized by dragging their right/bottom border
if they were stretched or snapped to a right/bottom boundary of a monitor.
Window Actions: The following bugs are fixed in the "Move to" helper dialog:
Dialog was twice as large on monitors with higher DPI resolution
When dragging a window preview, you could not align it using the Aero
Snap feature if the native Aero Snap was enabled in the system
When a green alignment dot was hovered by a mouse, the desktop preview
window that shows the dot's corresponding target location was slightly
bigger than required and so might go beyond monitor's visible area
Desktop Profiles: Monitors could not be turned on in portrait orientation.
Configuration, Desktop Profiles: If a monitor was turned off in portrait
orientation, its properties in the "Multiple Monitors > Monitors' Layout
and Settings" panel got empty on next Configuration window opening.

Microsoft Office 2013+: Application windows got frozen for a long time (up to several minutes) after locking the user session and then unlocking it back.
Mirroring: The long-awaited active mirroring is finally implemented. Active mirrors make the mirrored content available for mouse clicks, pen drawings, and touch gestures as if you would interact with the mirror's source itself. Note: Pen/touch support now reliably works in Windows 10 only.
Multi-monitor Background, Slideshow Screen Saver: The "shrink to fit" mode is added to the "Wallpaper position" option. For images larger than their host monitor, it works the same as the "proportional stretch" mode, whereas the images smaller than the host monitor are shown as is in the center of the monitor.
Actual Taskbar, Windows 10: Compatibility is improved with newer builds (18885+).
Actual Taskbar, Windows 10: Jump List support for UWP apps is finally implemented.

The ability is added to invoke advanced title button dialogs (usually invoked via right-click on a button) for a currently active window via hotkeys. The following hotkeys have been added:
Show the "Move to specific monitor" dialog (Win-Ctrl-/)
Show the "Maximize to selected monitors" dialog (Win-Ctrl-Num*)
Show the "Put into Divider tile" dialog (Win-Ctrl-Num5)
You can change the default key combinations in the Hotkeys-Actions panel. This feature can be useful on monitors with high resolutions (up to 4K) where distance to a required button may be too long to drag the mouse there just to invoke the dialog via right click. Using the hotkeys above will make the dialogs appear exactly under the mouse pointer, ready for immediate use.

The navigation panel in the main Configuration window has been replaced.
Configuration: The Desktop Divider category in the main Configuration window
has been renamed to "Layout and Snap", and the Windows Layout options and
the Window Snapping options have been moved there from the Options category.
The "Desktop Divider - Tile Layouts" panel has been split into two:
Desktop Divider - global on/off switch, activation mode
Tile Layouts - list of tile layouts itself
Google web slideshow source has been removed because Google discontinued
their Google Image Search service.
The long-awaited ability is added to resize/drag together windows snapped to
each other (no matter in what way - using either Classic Snap, Aero Snap,
Desktop Divider or even manually).
In short, group operations on adjacent windows work as follows:
Group Size - when you resize a window, windows adjacent to a border/corner
being dragged are resized accordingly (as if there were
a splitter between them)
Group Drag - when you drag a window, its adjacent windows come along with
it (as if they were a single large window)
By default, both these features are turned on in the "While not pressed -
Ctrl" mode, i.e. you can disable it temporarily by pressing the Ctrl
modifier key.
You can disable these features, or switch the mode to "While pressed", or
change the modifier keys combination in the new "Layout and Snap -
Group Size/Drag" panel.
Configuration: Ability is added to select all items in the lists with
multi-selection allowed by pressing the Ctrl-A hotkey. As this key
combination was reserved for adding a new item to a list, the New Item
hotkey has been changed to Ctrl-N.
Configuration: Hotkey combinations for list operations have been unified
for all list-editing panels:
Ins, Ctrl-N - add new item
Del, Ctrl-D - delete selected item
F5 - copy selected item
Ctrl-=, Ctrl-Num+ - enable all items (where available)
Ctrl--, Ctrl-Num- - disable all items (where available)
Ctrl-A - select all items (where available)
Configuration: Confirmation request for the Delete Item operation has been

Vista+: The long-awaited ability to customize the Logon/Lock Screen background image is added. On multi-monitor systems, it also allows to run picture slideshow on secondary monitors (see the new "Logon Screen" section in the Quick Setup wizard and the main Configuration window).
Vista+: Default Audio Device Switcher is added. It lets you quickly switch the audio device used in the system by default for sound output, if you have more than one audio hardware device installed in your PC (most modern video cards have embedded audio hardware to support such combined video/audio output standards as HDMI or DisplayPort).
You can invoke the list of available devices via special hotkey combination (Win-Ctrl-A by default, can be changed on the "Hotkeys - Actions" panel in the "Tools" group).
Now, when running multi-monitor slideshow, the "Next slide" command affects only the monitor where it has been invoked.

The Configuration Module now can run multiple windows at once.
For example, you can open several Window Settings windows using the "Manage window settings" title button (separate window for each settings).
When several configuration windows are open at once, changes made within a particular window are isolated there until you click the Apply button in that window.
Changes made in the Default Window Settings now are propagated automatically to all existing specific window settings (provided that the old value was the same in both Default and particular specific settings).
Quick Setup wizard is added. It allows to tune up quickly the most frequently used features (according to collected and analyzed usage statistics) without diving into details.
Compact mode for extra title buttons is now available: it displays the small narrow button instead of the full list of active buttons.
Click on this button expands the list of active buttons so they can be used as usual. Second click on this button or click somewhere else collapses the list of active buttons so they do not block the view (this can be especially useful in non-standard windows like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox).
The compact mode activates either automatically (when the extra buttons do not fit the title bar) or it can be set permanently for particular windows in the Window Settings options (see the "Title Buttons - Options" group).
In addition to a right click on extra title buttons, now you can hold the left mouse button on them for some time to invoke their extended abilities (like context menus or special dialogs).
The Manage Window Settings button is added. It allows to quickly modify the actual applied window settings, create new specific window settings or exclude a certain window from %appname% processing.
The ability is added to specify exact secondary display position (see the "Display Position" group in the "Multiple Monitors - Monitors' Layout and Settings" panel).
Windows 8/8.1: Option to cancel the replacement of the system Alt-Tab Task Switcher is added.
The "Popular" filter is added in the "Hotkeys - Actions" panel and set as default filter there. It lists the most frequently used key combinations based on the usage statistics analysis.

Beginning from the version 8.0, the Licensing Policy changes: now you must purchase as many copies of the program as many users will use the program simultaneously. There is no limit on the number of computers the program can be installed on and registered with the same registration code as long as the number of simultaneous users is less than or equal to the number of purchased copies. Beginning from the version 8.0, the Upgrade Policy changes: now purchasing the registration code grants you the Free Upgrades Subscription for a certain period (a year). Custom grouping of taskbar buttons is now available in Actual Taskbar:
To add certain window into a group, drag its preview thumbnail and drop it onto the group button (or another window's button to make a new group).
To remove window from a group, drag its preview thumbnail and drop it onto the empty taskbar space.
To handle groups in a quick and easy manner, the "Tile / Cascade / Minimize / Restore / Move to Monitor" commands have been added. These commands can be invoked -
via group's Jump List
via caption buttons in the group's preview window
via group button's context menu (you can invoke it using Shift-RClick on the group button)
Note: Dragging the preview of a browser tab (Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox, etc.) will add the entire browser window into the group, not just that separate tab.
You can add custom title buttons at the level of particular window settings(either Default or Specific). Also, you can change the order of buttons and tell apart the groups of similar buttons by adding separators between them.
Note: There's no "Title Buttons Order" group anymore in the "Options - Title Buttons" panel because now the order can be adjusted for different window settings individually.
Warning! Custom title buttons are not compatible with the Multi-selection Edit yet so please avoid any manipulations with them (adding, deleting, moving) when several window settings are selected to prevent the corruption of your settings.

Configuration window has been revamped.
Desktop Divider feature has been added. It allows sub-dividing the entire large desktop or each monitor into several non-intersecting areas (tiles). You can create as many custom tile layouts as you need and activate them on the fly as circumstances require.
Multi-monitor Taskbar: The Mixed mode is added. In this mode, taskbar on the primary monitor shows all running applications on all monitors, whereas taskbars on secondary monitors show only applications running on their corresponding monitors.

Ability is added to hide secondary taskbars per monitor: right click the taskbar and select the "Hide taskbar" command in its context menu. You can restore the taskbar via "Taskbars" submenu in Actual Multiple Monitors tray icon's context menu.

Preview thumbnails can display window icon/caption.

Desktop profiles support advanced display management features available in Windows 7 (such as displays cloning, image rotation).
In Windows 7, preview thumbnails in secondary taskbars display custom control buttons (like Play / Pause / Forward / Back for Windows Media Player) and application's notification icons.
In Windows 7, secondary taskbars display the hidden notification icons in a special fly-out window.
Jump Lists in secondary taskbars display a context menu for their items menu's content may differ from a menu displayed for Jump List items in the system taskbar).
Now it's possible to drag items out of Jump Lists and drop them into other applications. The soft lock of the mouse within monitor (a.k.a. "tight monitor boundaries") is added. Scroll Inactive Windows with the Mouse Wheel
We received several requests for this feature not long ago and decided it would be a good addition to other usability enhancement features provided by Actual Tools.
After activating this feature, you will be able to scroll the contents of inactive windows without the need to activate them.
This may be useful, for example, when you write a document in a text editor and need to refer to some other document (either text, graphic or web page): with this feature you can use the keyboard to type a text in the text editor and the mouse to scroll the other document - without a single mouse click or Alt-Tab press!
Switch the Mouse Pointer between Monitors via Hotkeys
This is one more usability enhancement for multi-monitor users.
Using these new hotkeys, you can put the mouse pointer to next/previous monitor (Win-`/Win-Shift-` by default, accordingly) or place it in the center of the primary monitor (Ctrl-Alt-P by default) in a single click.
You can alter the hotkey combinations in the Hotkeys panel as well.
Lock the Mouse in Several Windows
The Lock Mouse feature, being added as experimental, becomes more and more popular as it finds more applications. To make its use more comfortable, now we store the "mouse locked" state per window. This means you can press the Lock Mouse hotkey in one window, switch to another, then return to the first window - and the mouse pointer will be locked within it automatically!
Also, in case you have an application which is reasonable to have the mouse locked within all the time - we add the ability to lock the mouse there automatically at startup. Just create the specific settings for that application and enable there the Lock mouse item as shown below.
Combine Classic and Aero Snap
Actually, there was no strict reason to make the classic snapping and the Aero Snap emulator mutually exclusive - it had been done rather of precaution than of necessity. But since that time we got no reports about any problems or conflicts; on the contrary, we received some requests to make these two modes of window snapping available at once - so they are.
I believe the picture is obvious. smile:) Just one note: you can temporarily suspend both snap modes while dragging a window by pressing and holding the Ctrl key; releasing the key resumes them back.
Set the Slideshow per Monitor
This version introduces the advanced multi-monitor slideshow support: now it's possible to specify the slideshow mode on a per monitor basis, i.e. you can choose which monitors should run the slideshow and which should display a static picture or a clean background. The Background panel has been redesigned accordingly to reflect this ability in a natural way.
Also, this panel now support the drag-n-drop of picture files/folders while filling the slideshow playlist or specifying a static picture.
Customize the Preview Thumbnails
On some weak machines or in case of low graphic resources (as in the Remote Access mode) the modern look of preview thumbnails - with semi-transparency, smooth animated transitions, etc. - may cause the annoying delays in the workflow. To prevent this, now you can customize the look-and-feel of preview thumbnails on secondary taskbars.
Bugfixes:
title buttons are now compatible with MS Office 2010 64-bit edition;
title buttons do not disappear on some custom display configurations after moving a window to secondary monitor;
the width of buttons pinned on secondary taskbars is calculated correct;
preview thumbnails do not appear below windows;
there are no more phantom buttons of Google Chrome in secondary taskbars;
Miranda IM 0.9 contact list window closes correct when clicking its Close button.
