Allplan Engineering 2017 Sets a New Standard in the Area of Collaboration with Design Partners on BIM Projects:
Task Board for Efficient Task Management:
One central challenge involved in working with the BIM method is to allocate the various tasks clearly to all the project participants and then to track them. The task management should be as quick and as convenient as possible for both you and your design partners. The Task Board was introduced in Allplan 2017 for this purpose. The Task Board is directly connected to the open BIM platform, bim+. With bim+, you can collate, view, analyze, and share model data from Allplan and other OpenBIM solutions. The BIM Coordinator, for example, may detect unclear situations or design errors thanks to a visual check and can assign any problem to an editor. During the interaction between bim+ and Allplan, any new to-dos are immediately displayed on both sides. When the task is complete, the status is set to “Done” and the modified model is uploaded to bim+ again. All the project participants then immediately have access to the new design status.
Collision Check via bim+:
To detect design errors at a very early stage, you can perform a collision check with bim+, such as between the partial models of the architects, structural designers, and building service providers. In the interaction between bim+ and Allplan, the tasks for eliminating collisions are delegated efficiently to the responsible editor via the Task Board. As soon as a new design status is available, it can be documented as a new revision with a traceable history.
Data Exchange without Any Stumbling Blocks:
To ensure a problem-free data transfer between design partners, Allplan provides a large number of different interfaces that are constantly being upgraded and updated. In the 2017 version, the focus was on the exchange of 3D volume and surface data (NURBS), which is important for BIM projects. You can now also exchange free-form geometries without polygonization in the formats AutoCAD DWG/DXF, MicroStation DGN (Import) and Rhino. In addition, it is also possible to export BIM models in the IFC4 format. These optimizations support the interaction with other software products and improve the data quality involved in information transfers.
Improved performance of Workgroup Online:
The Workgroup Online function of Allplan Workgroup Manager enables efficient work on a location-independent basis. All Allplan project data is exchanged via the internet. To reduce the transfer time for large volumes of data, a new compression method has been introduced in Allplan Architecture 2017, which reduces the data volume and thus the transmission time by 75 percent on average. In individual cases, even reductions of up to 90 percent are possible. You can therefore work considerably faster on your projects online.

PythonParts – Parametric Objects for Excellent Productivity:
Complex, geometrically demanding building projects call for powerful and flexible tools that are easy to use. The differences from country to country also demand extensive adjustment possibilities. One tool that fulfills these demands is PythonParts – parametric objects on the basis of the Python script language. You can use the Python API programming interface to access Allplan functionalities and to create new functions and objects, including reinforcements, if required. The PythonParts have a user interface with properties palettes, handles, and individual work processes, and can be adjusted with just a few clicks. In addition, you can use Python API to automate recurring work steps. In this way, you can improve productivity, avoid design errors, and support the BIM working method.
Allplan Engineering 2017 Provides Excellent Degree of Convenience for Modeling and Creating Designs:
Several Upgrades in the Field of 3D Modeling:
Due to the integrated parasolid modeling kernel, a large number of new options are now available to you. For example, 3D solids without any previous polygonization can be modified simply and precisely. The system allows the editing of random points, straight or curved edges and the surfaces of 3D elements. In addition, the user-friendliness and the workflows in 3D modeling have been optimized at various points.
User-Defined Free-Form Components Now Even More Flexible:
Parasolid-based 3D solids can now be converted into user-defined free-form components (quantity solids). These user-defined components can be modified in flexible and simple ways with the usual modifications such as Boolean operations or point modification. It is even possible to easily define and adjust the outline presentation.
Enormous Time Savings thanks to “Extrude reinforcement along path:
To allow you to position reinforcements quickly and easily, the “Extrude reinforcement along path” function was introduced. You position the corresponding reinforcement elements such as stirrups and longitudinal reinforcements in a cross-section, then select the desired path for their routing, and Allplan then automatically generates the reinforcement. In the process, stirrups are rotated and additional stirrup areas, splices, contours, and overhangs are taken into account. This saves an enormous amount of time, especially in the 3D reinforcement of individual components.
Clearer Overview When Working with the Building Model:
The building model is now even easier to handle, thanks to the new filter function for partial images. You can activate the entire 3D model in an animation window and hide the partial images that you do not need in the outline. In this way, you can gain an overview of the entire structure in the animation view, without too many components being superimposed on each other during editing and so making everything unclear.
Up-To-Date Supplements for International Project Work:
The following new features have been added for work on international projects: The new “Norme Française” (NF EN) was integrated for France. For projects in Brazil, the diameter and arc length can now be labeled in the bending roller presentation. Moreover, leaders can also be shown with dashed lines in accordance with DIN EN ISO 3766. Finally, the measuring units feet and inches are now available throughout.
Steel profile library restructured and updated:
To make your orientation easier and to speed up your workflow when working with steel profiles, the Steel Profile library was supplemented with lacking profiles according to current supplier programs, and restructured. Moreover, additional attributes were added and standardized color settings, area styles, lines, and layers were created. You can now find the 2D and 3D profiles in a single location.

We improved the 'datwaprjs' hotline tool for converting all projects straight from the Services application. If conversion of a drawing file failed, you could no longer use the contents of the successive drawing files and projects in certain cases.

Workgroup Manager retains the auto-update settings of a normal user. However, these settings change with the global settings defined by the administrator.

The program no longer mixes 2D library elements with 3D library elements.
All elements in the library use the language you selected when you started Allplan.
Saving symbols to the library is now easier.

Direct Object Modification
Moving elements with direct object modification is now easier; the crosshairs show a correct preview of the element.
When restarting, Allplan remembers the setting of the pin symbol, which defines the position of the coordinate dialog in direct object modification.
When you use direct object modification to modify openings with SmartParts that are outside the opening (for example, folding shutters), Allplan displays the data entry boxes for the opening width again.
Advanced Draft
When generating regions in 'Polar Axis Grid', Allplan uses the right unit of length for the values you enter.
Print Preview
You can select a value you added using the 'Reference Scale' tool (on the 'View' menu).

DXF/DWG interface
When exporting, Allplan considers a modified line definition file you added using ODXToolsConfigurator.
bim+ interface
We improved the messages for exporting data to bim+.
Allplan exports door SmartParts and window SmartParts with the correct object type to bim+, which identifies them as doors and windows.
When exporting data to bim+, the program assigns the Allplan attribute 'door swing' to the 'Door' object.
IFC interface
The nodes of the stories get different numbers during export to IFC (Structural Analysis View).
When you export bars to IFC, the 'Allplan_ReinforcingMesh' and 'Allplan_ReinforcingBar' PSets now include the attributes for the mark number (position number) and the assembly name (group name), respectively.
DGN interface
When importing data from DGN files, Allplan correctly imports pen colors.

3D Modeling
Applying Boolean operations to 3D solids and general 3D objects is much easier now.
Fixtures
Editing fixtures using the 'Stretch Entities' tool does not affect labels.
After you have defined a smart symbol foil using the 'Define Fixture' tool, Allplan deletes the elements used in this foil as it did in earlier versions.
When placing linear fixtures, Allplan promptly uses the 'Element' option you select in the 'Input Options'.
Editing a placed fixture that does not have a reference to an external catalog no longer affects this status.

Walls, Openings, Components
Allplan retains the reference point of a label style used for an opening with a SmartPart even if you change the opening width several times.
Allplan retains the layer of the door swing symbol after you have copied a door opening including a smart door symbol and a roller blind housing by double-clicking the left mouse button.
We improved the 'Restore 3D View' tool for label styles with lines.
Rooms, Surfaces, Stories
Changing room data is now easier. Allplan retains all attributes even if you double-click an element and change the data of particular rooms with advanced catalog data.

Bar Reinforcement
The 'Reinf. schedule, bending shapes' legend analyzes all bars.
Before editing bent bars, Allplan checks whether these bars are consistent.
You can undo and redo bars you changed using direct object modification as often as you want.
Allplan displays partial schemas correctly in the preview while you are moving them.
Mesh Reinforcement
Placing excess mesh is easier.
Mesh cutting diagrams you create across several drawing files using the report tool in the building structure contain correct sum tables including the total sum.
You can label meshes in a view even if the 'Direction line' input option is not active.
Associative Views
Allplan no longer issues a message when you copy elements from associative views using the clipboard.
After having edited a 3D box (3D solid) using 'Stretch Entities', you can copy this box to an associative view without creating a link between the copied box and the original box.
Allplan retains defined views and sections in the target drawing file when you copy elements from a different drawing file to this target drawing file using the 'Copy, Convert Elements Across Drawing Files' tool.
You can use points where edges of 3D solids intersect as reference points for editing data in views and sections.
Allplan creates labels styles (for example, elevation points) of elements in associative views in the drawing file of the view. Allplan no longer places the label styles in the model drawing file.
We improved the way reinforcement appears in animation of associative sections.
Allplan copies foundation to the correct position in an associative section.

Important New Features
General
We reworked the manner in which Allplan displays elements in detection color when you point to their labels using the mouse. The following rules now apply consistently: When you point to the label, the labeled element appears in the detection color. When you point to the element itself, the associated elements (for example, the labels) also appear in the detection color. A special rule applies to groups of elements whose constituent parts can be edited or deleted individually (for example, room groups): When you point to the label of the group, all its constituent parts including the labels appear in the detection color. The individual parts behave like normal elements with labels. The same is true for element groups whose constituent parts cannot be edited individually.
Library
The 'Find' tool in the 'Library' palette finds not only library elements but also folders. This tool also scans the external path, provided you defined it beforehand.
When you set the external path in the 'Library' palette to a library folder of an earlier Allplan version installed in parallel, Allplan now displays a prompt, where you can decide whether to retain the library elements in the earlier version, too.
You can now replace entries when saving library elements. Which elements you can replace depends on the element type you want to save: Symbol files replace symbols, smart symbols and SmartParts; smart symbols replace smart symbols and SmartParts; SmartParts replace only SmartParts.
In Allplan 2016-1, you can now find the structural analysis symbols in the '2D objects' folder. In earlier versions, these symbols used to be in the 'Symbols and pictograms' folder.
We added mirrors and wash-basins to the 'Furniture' - 'Bath and WC' folder.
The steel sections U 2D, UPE 2D and Z 2D existed twice in earlier versions. In Allplan 2016-1, you can now find them only in the '2D objects' - 'Steel sections' folder.
Object Navigator
You can now save sorting criteria you defined in the 'Objects' palette as a favorite and retrieve this favorite whenever you need. As soon as you open user-defined sorting in the list box at the top, Allplan presents the familiar symbols on the right-hand side.
3D Modeling
Allplan simplifies polygonal 3D solids for calculating Boolean operations, making calculations faster.
Drawing files including a lot of complex general 3D elements with curves load faster, regardless of whether you switch views or change the size of the viewport.
You can now snap to real and virtual points of intersection of general 3D elements and general 3D surfaces and use these points of intersection to draw more elements.
Python application programming interface
Allplan 2016-1 comes with a beta version of the future Python application programming interface (API), which you can use to create 3D models including reinforcement. To see examples, set the external path in the library to ETC\EXAMPLES.
General

Drawing files you select as source drawing files in the 'Derived from building structure' area are not lost even if you reopen the building structure without Workgroup Manager.
Library
We improved navigation in the library: Clicking 'Back' takes you up exactly one level in the hierarchy.
When creating folders in the library, you can use only valid characters for the folder name. If you try to enter an invalid character, Allplan displays a message.
Basic
When you create a new project based on a project template, the resource paths are set to 'Project' by default. The project templates now include the project resources.
When you label components, elements or sections, Allplan no longer takes the background color from the most recent text parameters. If you want to use a background color, you can select it in the 'Properties' palette after you have selected the label.
When you rotate elements using handles, the coordinate dialog box displays the correct angle.
You can analyze all sorts of points using reports, legends and label styles.
Draft
'Revision Cloud' comes with a fixed pattern line. Consequently, you can no longer select 'Pattern Line on/off' while drawing revision clouds.
Layout
Layouts including associative views load faster.
When you change the boundary of a layout window using 'Fold Line', Allplan no longer displays the original boundary.
Interfaces
DWG interface
We improved import of general 3D elements (BREps) to Allplan.
We solved inconsistencies that might have occurred when you excluded ellipses and circles from DWG import.
IFC interface
When you reimport reinforcement you previously exported from Allplan to IFC format, Allplan places the reinforcement in the correct position.
bim+ interface
The icon for 'Export bim+ Data' is now in line with the bim+ platform.
The colors of reinforcement do not change after export to bim+.
We improved the upload of Allplan data to bim+ and removed the unnecessary message.
PDF export
We improved the export of elements with complex hatching and patterns to PDF format.
iTWO, CPIXML
We renamed the 'Export iTWO Data' tool 'Export CPIXML Data', making sure the tool name is in line with the file format of the exported data.

Walls, Openings, Components
The 'Door SmartPart' - 'Lifting door' tool provides more parameters: You can change the height of the deflection pulley, define an assembly frame and apply glass to selected panels or all panels.
When you change the parameters of slats and rails of roller shutters (created with the 'Shading SmartPart' tool), Allplan now displays these changes in 2D plan view, too.
Rooms, Surfaces, Stories
Legends can consist of both architectural elements and engineering elements.

The shortcut menu of general 3D elements (with curves) provides the 'Convert Elements' tool.

Bar Reinforcement
Allplan retains the fonts of labels in schemas and placements after direct modification of reinforcement.
Allplan retains the correct full schema after direct modification of a reinforcing bar using 'Stretch Entities'.
The 'Element Information' - 'Check number of pieces for partial and full schemas' tool behaves as in the previous version, displaying only the reinforcing bars without partial schemas or full schemas. As you know, you can save reinforcement with bars, associative views, dimensions and schema labels as symbols in the library. You can now place and edit reinforcement saved as symbols using direct object modification without restrictions.
We improved analyses of polygonally-placed bar shapes in legends and reports. As a result, output is now identical to that in the schema table.
To support the BIM method and visualize 3D reinforcement cages in an optimum manner, Allplan allows you to modify the format properties of the associated 3D elements. Of course, the familiar 'Match layers' pen, line, color' and 'Surface colors from diameters' animation options are still available.
We improved rearrangement of bars placed per meter.
Mesh Reinforcement
We improved the mesh shapes, allowing you to modify and delete them quickly and easily.
Allplan International
The 'Polygonize Element' dialog box ('Convert Elements' - 'General 3D element to 3D solid, 3D surface') automatically adjusts to the text length of the selected language.
British Standard
The 'Reinforcement schedule - British Standard' report outputs the correct total length of bars with 180° hooks.

Setup, licensing, auto-update
We stabilized and improved WIBU licensing for Allplan in various places.
You can still work with the IBD wizards after having upgraded from Allplan 2015 to Allplan 2016.
License server: If you do not select the 'Start network server' option in CodeMeter WebAdmin when you select a license server license, the license server service does not start. The system now issues a message to this effect.
We improved auto-update.
Auto-update now installs hotfixes faster.
The administrator in a workgroup environment can allow or forbid users to find and auto-update hotfixes. This setting now works correctly.
Library
Allplan displays smart symbols correctly in the preview of the Library palette even if you change the view for the preview.
Building structure
When you create a new plane model using 'Floor Manager', Allplan keeps the 'Reports' structural level in a building structure you created manually.
You can rename drawing files in the building structure quickly and easily.
We improved the building structure wizard for creating a new building structure.

You can enter any values when stretching entities.
Interfaces
When you export exploded data using the ODX interface, Allplan groups the objects correctly.
IFC interface
You can export data to IFC format even though you inadvertently deleted the original data of an advanced XRef you had inserted beforehand.
bim+ interface
We adjusted the links to login and password in 'Export bim+ Data' to the changes in the bim+ platform.
Allplan now exports data to bim+ in the background; so you can continue to work in Allplan. When export is complete, you will get a message or an email with information on the data exported.
We improved export of certain types of data to bim+.
PDF import
We improved the message Allplan displays when you try to import protected PDF files.
Layout
If you have defined a project angle for rotated plan view and you place a layout element, Allplan uses the correct points for drawing and placing layout elements in a congruent manner.
When you change the sequence of layout elements in a layout window, the display sequence in other layout windows does not change.
Architecture
Roofs, Planes, Sections
Allplan no longer issues any messages when you 'Undo' a roof plane above a wall with a window opening and a SmartPart.
Assigning surfaces no longer affects the properties of roof planes.
Walls, Openings, Components
Allplan automatically updates dimension strings you created with 'Dimension Walls' to reflect any changes you have made to the geometry.
We improved the 'Join Linear Components' and 'Join Linear Component with Line' tools for joining multi-layer walls layer by layer.
A facing in an opening gets the material of the construction layer in which you inserted the facing.
If wizards contain profile walls with 2D symbols being used for the cross-sections, Allplan keeps these cross-sections when you upgrade from Allplan 2015 to Allplan 2016 (the new paths to the symbols are not taken into account here).
You can edit French doors using handles and direct object modification.
Fixtures in walls with absolute elevations can be moved in the z direction.
When you create window SmartParts with tilt-and-turn casements, Allplan tilts the corresponding casement in 3D if 'Position' is set to 'Open'.
When you create blinds as SmartParts, Allplan correctly calculates the 'Offset to opening at top/bottom'.

Steel information and bending information you created for area reinforcement placed in polygon (with 'Bending Machine' in the BVBS standard) get the correct number of pieces.
Using 'Modify Placement', you can change the number of pieces quickly and easily a number of times.
FRILO Plate
We stabilized export of complex plates with large radii to Frilo. The FE program of FRILO Software GmbH cannot process circular beams. Therefore, you cannot export these components.

The name of a smart symbol you change in the library must consist of at least one character.
Allplan saves new smart symbols directly to a new group; the 'Contents' folder is no longer available.

When there are several layout elements, you can quickly and easily select the layout element you want to use for transferring the layer visibility.
We sped up the definition of layout windows outside the layout sheet.
When you move the Allplan window while 'Print Layouts - Multiple printout' is active, the viewport toolbar moves correctly with the Allplan window.
You can always cancel multiple printout of layouts by pressing ESC.
When you archive layouts, Allplan saves the attribute file with its correct name.
A print profile in a project is saved together with the project backup so that you can import it to other computers and use it there.
You no longer need to define the layout elements you want to modify in conjunction with 'Transfer Layer Visibility' a number of times.

3D Modeling
We improved dialog boxes and messages in the 3D Modeling module.
We adapted element selection using the brackets in the new 3D modeling tools to the Allplan default: opening a selection rectangle no longer 'unselects' the elements you have already selected.
Allplan displays elements you selected for 'Extrude Along Path' in the selection color defined even if 'Color stands for pen' is active.
'Chamfer' correctly cuts 3D lines created as polylines.
You can quickly and easily select the path for 'Extrude Along Path'.
We improved the 'Fillet' tool for 3D polylines and 3D splines.
You can now use SHIFT+click to select elements with the same group number in the new 3D modeling tools, too.
Bridge and Civil Engineering
The 'Scale factor' set for 'Scale' no longer affects the manner in which Allplan moves the label of a section created with 'Section Along Curve'.

More attributes are available (water and shipping authorities, MPG template project).
The model always updates quickly, regardless of the data involved.
The most recent report opens when you select 'Building Lists' the first time after you have started Allplan.

You can modify the eaves height of gambrel roofs.

'Raise File' moves the "new" 3D elements with curves correctly into the z direction.
'List Default Planes' issues a message when a change affects several drawing files. This message uses the correct character set.

We reduced the dialog box for selecting trades to the necessary width.

You can place symbols with associative views and sections in documents.
Reinforcement you created as a standard section is visible in layout windows even if the reinforcement is outside the section object.
After you have made changes in a drawing file, Allplan correctly displays fixtures in associative sections. You do not need to select 'Refresh'.
When you modify an associative section that does not display the clipping path, Allplan retains the label of this section as it is.
When you click a section object while no tool is active, Allplan no longer displays the message informing you about the selection of elements on frozen layers.
Allplan correctly adjusts the position of the section label when you rotate the section object and the object intersected.
Allplan correctly displays bars in associative sections when you modify the section object using handles.
We improved the messages announcing that you should separate the reinforcement model from associative views and sections.

DXF, DWG, DGN Import
You can now import special DWG files containing text styles without names into Allplan.
Polylines in DGN files retain their original RGB color values when you explode and import them into Allplan.
Dimension lines in DGN files will be imported in their entirety into Allplan.
You can import DWG files containing dimension lines with double reference points or dimensioned points even if the units are very small, such as millimeters, centimeters or inches.
Bonus Tools
3D Modeling
We improved the processing of general 3D curves imported from Rhino.
Allplan correctly stops filleting or chamfering elements that point into the same direction or that form a straight line.
We improved the 'Sweep Path' tool when applied to complex geometries with only a single path.
We adapted element selection in the new 3D tools ('Fillet Edge', 'Chamfer Edge', 'Modify Edge Offset') to the Allplan default: opening a selection rectangle no longer cancels the selection you have already made. Instead, you can select more points.
Using the 'Union' tool, you can now convert solids imported as 3D surfaces from other programs to 3D objects.
Bridge and Civil Engineering
You can now use capital letters to enter default labels in 'Section Along Curve'.
Smart symbols with general 3D objects are visible in sections you create with 'Section Along Curve'.
Fixtures
We improved the process of copying fixture SmartParts.

Programming SmartParts: the GOSUB command can now process labels with umlauts.

You can place both door swing symbols for Smart French door symbols with two door leaves (for example, taken from the wizards for building alteration).
We improved the process of creating spline-shaped linear components along closed curves in conjunction with area detection using additional point and the number of segments set to a great value.
Using the 'Facade' tool, you can insert smart symbols you created with 'Smart Window and Door Symbols'.
Stair
If you modify the rise of a stair you created with the 'Stair Wizard' in a drawing file in edit mode, the drawing file assignment of the stair will not change.
Engineering
Shell
When you exit the 'Show Clipping Path' tool in associative sections, Allplan no longer issues the unnecessary message.
Even though you had correctly created the model and the associative sections in different drawing files, Allplan issued a message if the drawing file with the sections was open in edit mode. We removed this message.
After you have modified 3D elements, Allplan correctly updates the visibility of layers in associative views and sections.
Associative sections: Allplan displays the lines separating the new general 3D objects from the components in the same way as those separating the 3D solids from the components.
Bar reinforcement
We improved the rearrangement of reinforcement SmartParts.
After you have adjusted bars using 'Stretch Entities', Allplan correctly places the mark number; its position does not change.
Lengthening or shortening bars using 'Stretch Entities' no longer affects the remaining bars of the placement.
We improved the analysis of the bar length in circular reinforcement.
We removed the 'Engineering' - 'Bar reinforcement - element plan' legend.
Terrain
Site Plan
Allplan correctly updates attributes of composite elements when you open the 'Properties' palette.
Allplan no longer issues a message when you change the format properties (pen, line, layer, color) of composite elements in the 'Properties' palette.
