New in AudioExpert 6.2.0.551 (Apr 18, 2011)

  • Contains the following changes and enhancements:
  • Check dpulicates (after import): Traffic-light status
  • The list of detected duplicates within the import process now contains the traffic-light status for Date, Size, Duration, Bitrate and Channelmode. Sorting by these colums is also possible
  • Sorting within the Duplicate form (MD5-checksum / fingerprint)
  • The result of finding duplicates by MD5-checksum or fingerprint can be sorted by the didplayed columns. However, the dupicate-groups will not be broken, the sorting will be done by the smallest item of the group.
  • Filtering and tools within the Duplicate form (MD5-checksum / fingerprint)
  • You can mark all tracks that have the same album assigned like the currently focued track. After selecting this option, a filter will be applied and only those duplicate groups that are affected will be show.
  • Some other cleanup options are availabe; you can delete duplicates from ampler-folders or albums that are not marked as complete
  • UNC paths

  • Default genre
  • You can define if the default genre should be applied also for tracks that are located in sampler albums
  • Encoding for filenames
  • In the settings dialog for filenames you can define that AudioExpert should use the ANSI-Format (non-unicode) for naming your tracks. If your tracks do contain Unicodecharacters nevertheless, these characters will be replaced by an "_".
  • The following bugs were fixed:
  • Using the AutoTagging feature within the Duplicate-Dialog resulted in an error "track not found"
  • The AutoTagging feature sometimes broke down with a general exception fault

New in AudioExpert 6.1.0.540 (Mar 21, 2011)

  • User-definded max. length for filenames:
  • As of versiojn 6.0, AudioExpert can handle filenames up to a length of 2,000 characters. If you want to put such files on a CD or an MP3-player that does not use the NTFS filesystem, you might face some problems. Therefore you can limit the length for filenames and subdirectories separately. This can be done in the settings to limit the length in general. When exporting files to a directory, synchronizing libraries or exporting playlists, you can define different settings. Furthermore, you can also adopt the format strings for the filenames.
  • Subdirectories for albums:
  • Each folder properties dialog offers a new option "Use album as subfolder". Deselecting this option will store all tracks in the artist's folder (if applicable).
  • Default genre for artists
  • You can define a default genre for each artist. This will be applied to tracks that don't have a genre yet. You can also make AudioExpert to apply this genre to all tracks, not regarding any existing values.
  • Collation for albums:
  • Albums having more than 9 CDs will be sorted numerically ascending (1, 2, 3, ... 9, 10, 11 and no longer 1, 10, 11, 2, 3, 4, ...)
  • This will also be the case for albums having an enumeration such as Bravo Hits 1, Bravo Hits 2 etc.
  • Storing settings in database:
  • AudioExpert will store its settings mainly in the database, so in case you switch to a different database, your settings will change, too. As a fallback, the local registry will still be used.
  • Remove non-existing files from playlist:
  • The playlist editor can remove non-existing files from the list.
  • Filter "Show albums without album-medatata":
  • Using the menu "View" and applying this filter will hide all albums that have alread some album specific metadata (such as albumcovers). This might help you to review albums that don't have any metadata yet.
  • MusicBrainz alignment: Move tracks to new album:
  • Tracks that could not be matched to the current album can be moved easily to a new album. This helps a lot to split mixed-up albus to the proper albums.
  • MusicBrainz alignment: Better matching:
  • If MusicBrainz knows different versions of an album, e.g. having different trackcounts, AudioExpert will preselect the best-fitting version by default.
  • Memory usage within import:
  • The import process was optimized and requires less memory.
  • Consistencycheck:
  • The consistencycheck can fix an index-error "columns ArtistID, AlbumName, FolderID, Sampler, Deleted, Preview are not unique" that was probably caused by a bug of version 5.5
  • The following bugs were fixed:
  • Swithing the database did not switch the recently used libraries or tags
  • Deleting a track did not delete its tag- and library information
  • Playlists were not update properly if the filename contained the year or discnumber
  • Updating an ExtM3U playlist could end up in a dedalock if the extM3u-format was not valid
  • Mp3 files with a corrupted header could make AudioExpert to crash

New in AudioExpert 6.0.0.522 (Mar 9, 2011)

  • Long filenames:
  • As of this version, AudioExpert can handle filenames up to a length of 2,000 characters - NTFS filesystem assumed. Updating an existing database to the new version might take some seconds. Please keep in mind that some programs have difficulties handling filenames longer than 259 characters!
  • Exception-handling within long search processes:
  • In case of an error within the autotagging-process, MusicBrainz alignment or coversearch because of a problem with the internet connection or because the called server is temporarily not available, AudioExpert will display a popup windows allowing to retry or cancel the process. If the user does not press any button, AudioExpert will resume after 3 minutes. So even longer search processes will succeed if running over night.
  • Collation:
  • The collation (esp. for special characters thinking of Umlauts, Accents, other special chars) will be done using the windows locale settings.
  • Find moved or renamed tracks:
  • In case you have renamed files manually in the filesystem or tagged musicfiles using a different tagging-tools, AudioExpert can search for changed files and offer to import the changes only. So you don't have to do a full reimport. Menu "File | Find moved or renamed tracks".
  • Find and delete empty directories:
  • AudioExpert can search for empty directories and delete them. If you want to, AudioExpert can delete "unneeded" files (that are files that are not referenced by AudioExpert's Database) before trying to remove a directory. Menu "File | Find and delete empty directories"
  • Rename metadata:
  • Albumcovers and other metadata can be renamed using menu "File | Rename and renum album covers"
  • Search sampler albums:
  • You can search for sampler albums that have been split up to different artists using the new menu "Search | Search sampler albums".
  • Mark albums as "complete":
  • You can mark albums as "complete" manually. Whenever you try to import other tracks of such an album, these tracks will be rejected. Menu "Edit | Mark as... | Mark as complete" or use the context-menu or the shortcut Shift+F6.
  • Filenames:
  • For naming files the new fileds %YEAR% and %DISCCOUNT% are available
  • Bubble-hint when moving files to the trash-folder:
  • Whenver a track is moved to the trash-folder, AudioExpert can display a bubble hint or a small icon that willl flash for some seconds. This option is available in the Settings, page "Extended".
  • Quicksearch:
  • The quicksearch (Ctrl+F) supports now searching for filenames and the number of tracks per albuim.
  • Memory usage on batch-updates:
  • Doing larger updates (e.g. renaming a folder, changing the notation for many tracks etc.) AudioExpert will write the changes frequently to the database to reduce memory consumption. That means, larger changes cannot be undone using Ctrl+Z. However, a rollback to the last committed state is still possible.
  • Switching database:
  • Using the menu "Extras | Switch database" you can switch to a different database-file if you want to manage different music collection (not available in the FREE-edition).
  • Additional album-properies:
  • Albums that contain more than one CD might have additional information to the disc-nuumber, e.g. "ABBA - The Collection (disc 1: Classic)". AudioExpert supports this notation if you separate the additional text with a colon from the disc number, see example.
  • Size of dropdown boxes:
  • Dropping down a combobox, AudioExpert will increase the width of the dropdownlist to display more text.
  • Importing files of same quality:
  • If you are importing a track of the same quality, the track will be treated as duplicate and will not be emported as of this version.
  • Repairing database:
  • In case the database file got corrupted you can try to repair it using the tool "RepairDatabase.cmd" that can be found in the program-folder of AudioExpert. It is necessary to close AudioExpert before running this batch job.
  • Musepack files:
  • AudioExpert now supports MusePack files
  • Convert UTF8 to Unicode:
  • In case you have UTF8 encoded texts that have been saved with a wrong encoding (UTF16), AudioExpert can reconvert the texts using the menu "Edit | Convert UTF8 to Unicode".
  • Quicksync mode:
  • When importing files using the quicksync-mode, tracks having the same ID tags will not be imported even if you have set one of the options "Use Fingerprint" or "use MD5 checksum".This is to speed up the import process when aligning with a collection that was previously imported and you only want to check for new tracks.
  • Autotagging:
  • You can define the standard folders for normal albums and samplers within the autotagging result options.
  • "Compilation"-flag for MP4/M4A files:
  • The iTunes-Flag "Compilation" will be set for MP4/M4A files.
  • Bulk-change in ListView:
  • Having selected multiple tracks in the listview, you can perform a bulk-change for Genre, Year and Rating calling the title properties dialog.
  • "Organize ID-tags for genre and year"-dialog:
  • The default values can be set manually.
  • Copy & Paste for albumcovers:
  • Using the right mouse key over the albumcover, you can add, copy and pase (new) albumcovers
  • "Complete"-flag:
  • Renaming an album that was marked as "complete" will no longer reset the "complete" flag.
  • The following bugs were fixed:
  • Sporadic beep-sound while autotagging
  • Changing the case-mode for special characters only (e.g. "Ä" to "ä") could make the file being deleted within the next commit run
  • The quicksearch did not return any results when searching for a text enclosed with "*" that contained other wildcards (e.g. "*B?T*")
  • The case-mode of the subdirectories will also be changed within the commit run
  • Selecting anAlbum from the dropdown-box in the listview did not work
  • Errormessage "cannot commit - no transaction is active" fixed
  • After having moved a whole sampler-album to a non-sampler folder the next commit run failed with an error. The consistencycheck fixes this problem.

  • Check duplicates
  • The new menus "Extras | Check duplicates by MD5 checksum" and "Extras | Check duplicates by Fingerprint" (also available in the context menu of the treeview) allow you to search for duplicates in your entire library. The acoustic fingerprint enables AudioExpert to detect duplicates that were encoded in different formats or bitrates. The found items are shown in a separate screen where you can easily check the results.
  • Note: The fingerprint-based duplicate detection is not available in the Free-Edition.
  • AutoTagging with "Album-mode"
  • If you want to autotag complete albums, this feature will try to match all tracks to the same album, even if the autotagging engine suggests differens albums by default.

  • Adjust notation
  • Some new features helps you to remove e.g. URLs or special characters
  • Import wizard
  • It is now possible to turn off the import of playlists.
  • To prevent existing tracks from being overwritten by a misstagged, false version, you can use an additional check that replaces the duplicate only if either the MD5-checksum or the acoustic fingerprint are the same. This, however, will slow down the import process on every possible duplicate that was found.
  • Performance optimization on committing changes
  • Deleting duplicates was rather slow on large libraries, this should now be faster.
  • The following errors were fixed:
  • Deleting albums did not delete the assigned metadata
  • Sometimes, empty folders remained after committing changes
  • After having moved a title to the trash, the trash was sometimes empty. The tiles appeared after reorganizing the database

New in AudioExpert 5.1.0.427 (Dec 6, 2010)

  • If you had imported the identical file more than once to different folders in AudioExpert and committed your changes using the option "Move/Delete files", only the first file was moved - the second one failed, because the file was already moved. As of this version, the tracks will be duplicated in this case.
  • Metadata (e.g. Covers or Playlists) that could not be assigned to exactly one artist or album will NOT be copied or moved on commit. They will remain in the original location. In case of a playlist, the playlist itself will be adopted nevertheless.
  • Performance optimizaion on renaming or deleting artists or albums.
  • The following bugs were fixed:
  • Sometimes empty folders remained after commiting changes when using option "move/delete files"
  • The settings for ID3V2 Format/Encoding were not applied correctly. The tags were always written in ANSI format
  • If you moved a whole folder to a differen hierarchy level, the associated tracks were not set to preview and therefore they were not moved within the next commit process
  • The button "Show errors" after a commit run (that contained errors) did not work properly
  • Wrong time information on normalizing the loudness of tracks
  • Removing the normalization information of normalized tracks did not work correctly
