Jun 20, 2013
  • Improvements:
  • Strong's Number HighlightingStrong's Number Highlighting
  • The display of Strong's Number / morphology information for a book has been improved:
  • It is possible to have the information for a particular word only show on hover or on click rather than showing all the time.
  • It now highlights all the other places in the current window where the original language word currently being hovered over is used.
  • The presentation of text in the version comparison window has been improved.
  • It is now possible to turn off the orange reference bar at the top right of the Bible window (it will default to off). This was because it would shadow too much of the text.
  • The layout and typography of the Bible text has been improved.
  • Bug fixes:
  • Fixed a bug where the error message would never go away if an invalid reference was entered in the quick selector (e.g. John 50:1).
  • Fixed a bug that prevented daily devotionals from opening correctly in the Chinese locale.
  • Fixed a bug where in some cases footnotes and headings would never appear.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that scriptural tooltips would not work when in column mode.
  • Made handling of the OSIS tag in some Bibles and other books handle more cases.
  • Removed the tooltip from the search textbox to prevent it from obscuring search text.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that NT-only books would continue to show "Loading..." if Genesis 1:1 was displayed.
  • Made line breaks in Robinson work correctly.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that comments on verses with discontinuous ranges could
  • cause an error.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that books in a Right to Left script were being shown Left to Right in the parallel table in the version comparison window.
  • Fixed a bug which caused crashes when changing fonts or display options after changing the current language.
  • Fixed a bug preventing the search index from being built with the latest version of the KJV.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that books containing text in a non-English language would not display anything in column view.

New in BPBible 0.5.1 (Feb 13, 2012)

  • Improvements:
  • Made more of the text show on larger screens to make navigation using Page Up and Page Down more smooth.
  • Bug fixes:
  • Fixed a bug which meant that many verses in some Chinese Bibles would not display if Strong's Numbers were not displayed.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that the search button would not always default to searching the Bible when BPBible was first started up.
  • Fixed a bug where the current verse would change when changing versions, even if the current verse was on-screen.
  • Fixed a bug which meant that BPBible would just display "Loading..." if you went to a verse that didn't exist (like Mark 9:46 in the ESV).
  • Fixed a bug where BPBible would not let you change how Strong's Headwords were displayed.
  • UPDATE (12/02/2012): A new build (0.5.1.1) has been released to fix the following problems:
  • BPBible would not start if there were no Bibles installed.
  • Links between StrongsRealGreek and StrongsRealHebrew caused errors whenever the mouse was over them.

New in BPBible 0.4.7 (Aug 13, 2010)

  • Languages:
  • Fixed a bug where the bookname language would always display in the menu as Afrikaans after the main language had been changed to a different language (though the bookname language would actually be the main language).
  • Fixed encoding issues which caused unwanted accents in Spanish.
  • Made Devenagari scripts larger under Windows 7, since the OS would display them as far too small.
  • Improvements:
  • If you search for a Strong's Number from the version comparison window, it will now switch the current Bible to the Bible you used to search from. This ensures you will not get no results because the current Bible does not have Strong's Numbers.
  • If the current Bible is not complete (e.g. it is New Testament only), Guess the Verse will now only show verses to guess that are present in the current Bible.
  • BPBible has been updated to use the latest version of PLY.
  • Bug fixes:
  • Fixed a crash when invalid references are entered in the harmony window.

New in BPBible 0.4.6 (Jun 18, 2010)

  • three new languages, coloured tags and many other improvements.

New in BPBible 0.4.5 (Aug 7, 2009)

  • Languages
  • Support has been added for changing the language for Bible book names independently of the language of the application. This allows Bible book names to be used for a number of languages that BPBible has not been translated into.
  • Comments on passages
  • Added support for making comments on verses or passages in a similar way to making comments on passages when adding the passage to a topic. These comments are marked by a dagger which allows the comment to be viewed, edited or deleted.
  • Topic Management
  • Added support for ordering the passages in a topic by their scriptural order, rather than the order they were added. This makes it much easier to read if you are adding passages as you find them rather than ordering them in a logical order.
  • Added support for expanding the passages in a topic tooltip, so that it is possible to see the complete text of each passage and not just the comment on the passage.
  • Added support for changing the passage that is being added to a topic when tagging it. This saves editing the passage later if you decide that you actually wanted to include more or less of the passage than was selected.
  • Altered searching for a topic in the topic selector to match individual words rather than topic names. This means that search strings like "god name" can match topics like "God > His Name" and "The Name of God".
  • Made the topic selector always select the first topic displayed in the drop down list of topics when enter is pressed, even if there are multiple topics displayed in the list.
  • Made the topic selector display the full topic name where possible, rather than leaving part of it off the screen.
  • Added a topic selector to the Manage Topics window to make it easier to find topics if there are a lot of them.
  • When a passage tag is clicked on, make sure that the passage entry is visible in the list of passages.
  • Stopped saved search results from displaying tags by default.
  • Performance
  • The speed of selecting and displaying passages has been improved. There are significant improvements to the speed if there are a large number of topics and passages and tags are being displayed.
  • Other bug-fixes
  • Fixed errors when writing dictionary search indexes to file.

New in BPBible 0.4.4 (Aug 7, 2009)

  • Languages
  • BPBible is now available in Spanish.
  • Keyboard shortcuts and navigation
  • Additional keyboard shortcuts have been added for navigation:
  • Ctrl-Up and Ctrl-Down move to the previous and next verses.
  • Ctrl-Left and Ctrl-Right move to the previous and next chapters, as well as the previous and next dictionary entry and other book entry.
  • 'j' and 'k' move to the previous and next verse in Bibles and commentaries, and to the previous and next dictionary entry or other book entry for dictionaries and other books.
  • 'p' and 'n' move to the previous and next search result for the current search in the current book. 'N' can also be used to move to the previous search result. This saves the need to bring up the search dialog to find the next or previous result when reading through all of the results.
  • Moving back or forward through the history will now return you to the position you were in in the chapter, rather than the selected verse. This is important where you have scrolled away from the current verse and clicked on a hyperlink.
  • The escape key now dismisses the search dialog and the "Manage Topics" window.
  • Topic Management
  • The comment for the passage currently being hovered over in the topic tooltip is now highlighted to make it easier to find what was said about that passage. This comment is automatically scrolled to when the tooltip is anchored.
  • The topic title is now included in bold at the start of the topic tooltip.
  • The tags for a passage with multiple verses again appear at the end of every verse, rather than just appearing after the last verse of the range.
  • Removed a crash when clicking on a tag for a topic that had already been deleted.
  • Tooltip Handling
  • Tooltips no longer disappear if the mouse is over a tooltip for a reference in the first tooltip. This is particularly important for topic tooltips which contain a list of references with comments.
  • Long tooltips taking up the entire screen are now no longer directly under the mouse, since this meant that the links or tags being hovered over could not be clicked on.
  • Other bug-fixes
  • A run-time error when deleting a book on Windows has been removed.
  • A problem preventing books from being able to be unlocked has been fixed.
  • A bug preventing searching over a custom range (such as Genesis - Numbers) has been fixed.
  • Two problems with references from the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge have been fixed:
  • Tooltips were not showing for some references from Proverbs and Isaiah, and the references did not work.
  • References to Judges went to Jude or Revelation rather than Judges.
  • Login or register to post comments

New in BPBible 0.4.3 (Aug 7, 2009)

  • LanguagesBPBible in ChineseBPBible in Chinese
  • There are now three new languages you can use BPBible in:
  • German
  • Hungarian
  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • It is now possible to use language-specific numbers rather than just using 0 - 9.
  • In the languages sub-menu, the language is also shown in its own language, as well as the current language.
  • Strong's Number HeadwordsBPBible with original language headwordsBPBible with original language headwords
  • It is now possible to display Strong's Numbers headwords in three different formats:
  • As a Strong's Number.
  • As the original language word.
  • As the original language word transliterated into English.
  • Strong's Numbers are now shown without leading zeroes (e.g. G35 rather than G00035).
  • It is now possible to search for all occurrences of a Strong's Number in the Bible from the tooltip giving the definition.
  • Search on Strong's Numbers now allows strongs:g2500 as well as strongs:G2500.
  • Topic Management
  • Topic management now allows passages to have multiple verse ranges, such as Genesis 3: 1 - 5, 7, 9, not just a single verse range, such as Genesis 3:1 or Genesis 4:1 - 6.
  • Improved the formatting of multi-paragraph comments when viewing the passages for a topic.
  • BPBible now only displays the reference once for passages in the Manage Topics preview window, rather than once for every verse.
  • Fixed a bug with renaming topics after closing the Manage Topics window and opening it again.
  • Book support
  • Books that use sword:// URLs to link to other books are now supported.
  • Books with linked verses are now supported.
  • Empty verses are now skipped rather than showing a number with no content, and empty chapters now say that the chapter is empty.
  • Book Management
  • The "Manage Books" window now updates to show books that have just been installed.
  • Some problems with deleting books have been removed, though it still not possible to delete an open book.
  • Searching
  • Improved the error messages for searching a book with invalid XML.
  • The search icon on the toolbar now searches in the current window rather than always searching the Bible window.
  • Performance
  • The dictionary topic list will now be much faster, and the book selector pull-down at the top of each book window should also be faster.
  • Other
  • Improved the positioning of tooltips. Now the tooltips are aligned with the link. This should make it more easy to use tooltips with (for example) the TSK. A preview window was also added, which is a pane which is used for the tooltip information instead of a tooltip. The preview window is used instead of popping up a tooltip if:
  • The preview window is open (Windows > Preview)
  • Shift isn't held down (you can use shift to lock the previewer so that you can move towards it without it changing)
  • You aren't hovering over a link in the preview window. If you are, a tooltip will be opened instead.
  • References to books with only one chapter now treat the number as the verse number rather than the chapter number. For example, Jude 7 will go to Jude verse 7 rather than displaying an error saying there is only one chapter in Jude.
  • The Guess the Verse activity now uses an error icon if you guess wrong. This helps you tell whether you are correct or not.
  • A Show verse option has been added to Guess the Verse to find out what the verse is.
  • The font chooser will now always show Greek and Hebrew (these fonts will be used for Greek or Hebrew even in other language text).
  • Also, the font chooser now display the correct title in other books and daily devotional titles, rather than the internal key.
  • Fixed a bug where selecting the first Bible in the Bible window's Bible dropdown changed the current chapter as well as changing the current Bible.
  • Fixed a bug with the Bible header bar under Linux where tooltips were incorrectly displayed after moving over it.
  • Fixed a bug in following some references in the Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge.

New in BPBible 0.4 (Jan 21, 2009)

  • Changes in BPBible 0.4
  • Submitted by Ben Morgan on Fri, 11/28/2008 - 02:25 0.4
  • Change languages in UI
  • BPBible in Vietnamese
  • BPBible can now be translated into other languages. BPBible 0.4 contains a Vietnamese translation.
  • Search
  • Strong's number searchSearch has been significantly overhauled.
  • You can now search in commentaries, dictionaries and other books, as well as in Bibles.
  • Strong's numbers, morphology and scripture references are available.
  • It is now possible to set the proximity with a given number of entries/verses, as well as within a certain number of words.
  • Stemming is now performed. Stemming refers to the process of
  • removing the ends of words, to find similar words. For example, searching for
  • `test` will now return results for tests, tested and testing as well. If you
  • want to search for the exact word, put a plus in front of the word (for
  • example, `+test`).
  • BPBible 0.3 would not return results when there were more than 20000 hits. This limitation has been removed.
  • Search keypadA keypad has been added. This allows you to type in the various letters that occur in the book.
  • Search Indexes are now zipped, which saves a significant amount of disk space.
  • Search now includes canonical headings (i.e. ones in the original Bible text). These occur in the Psalms.
  • Topic management and tagging
  • Topic managementBPBible 0.4 adds new topic tagging functionality. This allows you to collect, organise and comment on passages for the topics you are interested in. By tagging them with a certain topic, you can access the relevant passages for a subject.
  • With this you can:
  • Tag selected verses or the current verse with a topic
  • Save search results as a new topic
  • Annotate passage with comments on them
  • Per-language and per-book font choice
  • You can now set the font used on a per-language or per-book basis, as well as setting a global default.
  • Also, Greek and Hebrew text will use the Greek and Hebrew fonts, even if they are in the middle of other text. This is particularly useful in commentaries and dictionaries which have the original language words.
  • Book manager
  • A new book manager has been added. This allows you to
  • unlock books
  • delete books
  • Note that deleting books cannot be undone, so be careful what you delete.
  • Layout improvements
  • Poetry in BPBibleBPBible 0.4 now specially handles poetry (for books which support it). This uses a format similar to print Bibles.
  • BPBible 0.4 has a new option, 1 verse per line, which puts each verse on a separate line.
  • DisplayLevel support in other books: Certain other books, which have a structure like the Bible, will be displayed in larger sections, rather than in verse-like sections.
  • Current verse numbers are now green, not blue - so you can see which verse is current in red-letter text.
  • Verse numbers are not underlined, which reduces visual clutter.
  • Chapter introductions are now displayed if the Bible supports them.
  • Panes
  • BPBible book selectorBook chooser in caption:
  • There is now a book chooser in the caption of each pane. Clicking on it allows you to easily change between versions. Books which contain an entry for the current key will be in bold, for easy identification.
  • Double click on caption to toggle pane maximization
  • Ctrl-F10: maximize pane
  • Ctrl-F5: restore pane
  • Fix maximized bottom and top panes - previously, these did not fill up the complete space.
  • Guess the Verse
  • Guess the VerseBPBible now includes an interesting game. It will give you a verse, and you have to guess which book of the Bible it comes from.
  • Miscellaneous
  • BPBible 0.3 lost your spot if you changed between harmonies and then back; this no longer occurs.
  • Made tooltips jumpier - now they have a timer of 0.2 seconds instead of 0.5.
  • Also, pressing escape will now hide tooltips.
  • BPBible now has a special dialog to notfiy of errors occurring which may stop BPBible working properly.
  • Previously, none of these forms of verse references were usable:
  • Gen 5v2
  • Gen 5 2
  • Gen 5: 2
  • They now work as expected.
  • Changed abbreviation in english for Psalms from Pss to Psa.
  • There was a bug in 0.3 which stopped scrolling from automatically occurring when selecting and moving up and down. This has been fixed.
