  • “Friend Manager” [Under the Wrench Menu]:
  • A new “Options” tab contains all of the options related to this feature
  • Separate options for being alerted of unfriending vs name changes so you only see what you’re interested in
  • “Unfriend” alerts now inform you when the account may just be temporarily unavailable rather than actually unfriended
  • The list of friend changes in the blue bar dropdown menu is now scrollable so it doesn’t stretch all the way to the bottom of the screen
  • The “Friends” tab is now paged to speed up the display if you have a lot of friends
  • Fixed: Pressing the “X” in the Control Panel to hide it now works consistently
  • Fixed: For users of the Chrome, Firefox, and Opera extensions, preferences were previously not stored per Facebook user, causing several issues, including Friend lists to be shared and mass “unfriending” alerts. In this new version, preferences will be automatically migrated to per-user settings
  • Fixed: Post filtering in Safari
  • Technical Changes:
  • Avoid using minified libraries to comply with Chrome extension policies
  • Fixed a bug in the “storage check” warning that sometimes resulted in a false positive and caused it to pop up frequently

  • “Show Photo Tags” [User Interface]: Display the auto-generated tag text that Facebook applies to pictures when you hover over them.
  • “Check For Filtered Messages” [General]: Facebook filters and hides messages it thinks are from people you don’t know - often in error. Social Fixer now alerts you when you have filtered messages
  • “Mark All Read”: Mark as read all posts above or below the selected post by holding Shift or Ctrl (Command on Mac) when clicking the “Mark Read” icon
  • “Short” Post Timestamps [General]: Optionally fix post timestamps and use a shorter format, like “12/31/2016 12:34:56 AM”
  • “Hide Most Recent switch messages” [Advanced]: When auto-switched to the Most Recent feed, disable the message ribbon saying you were switched
  • “Stealth Mode” [Wrench menu]: Once enabled, will now stay enabled after page reloads, until manually disabled

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 12.0 (Jun 12, 2015)

  • What's Fixed / Changed:
  • Submitting comments is now better than ever! This update adds a “Submit comment” button you can click to post comments. You can also (optionally) use Ctrl+enter to submit, and Tab+Enter still works too.
  • Image previews when hovering over thumbnails and profile pictures now works in most cases.
  • Security settings may cause some profile pictures to appear as the default FB Pic.
  • In some cases, image previews still don’t work, but I’m working on it.
  • Fixed the Messages dropdown so clicking a message doesn't open it in the chat window
  • Fixed the hiding of user information popup when hovering over user names
  • What’s Removed:
  • I disabled the comment “reply” feature completely until I can fix it. It is broken because of major code changes in the internals of Facebook. So far I haven’t been able to make it work with their new code.
  • Removed the Social Fixer News link and subscription. Facebook removed my list with over 2.4 million subscribers, without an explanation or even notifying me! My emails to them about this have gone unanswered. This is extremely frustrating.
  • Removed the "Automatically expand "SHOW X SIMILAR POSTS" links" option because it no longer applies and doesn’t do anything.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 11.0 (Sep 29, 2014)

  • What's New:
  • Animated GIF support! These are animated graphics, commonly used on many sites like Reddit to express reactions to posts and comments. Facebook doesn’t show them as moving images – just a still frame. Social Fixer now has an option (in the “Popular” tab) that enables the animation on these types of images, so they appear moving right in your news feed and in comments.
  • What's Fixed:
  • Firefox32 problems with themes, Guided Setup, etc.
  • Auto-switch to Most Recent view of the news feed.
  • Some items in the left column and panels in the right column were no longer hiding if marked as hidden.
  • Full timestamps on posts
  • Some Chat options stopped working. The “compact” view has been fixed.
  • Always lock the blue bar at the top of the page, regardless of page size
  • Items in the “My …” boxes in the left column now display correctly
  • Options That Have Been Removed:
  • Due to changes in Facebook’s code, sometimes it’s no longer possible for me to offer some options. And in some cases, their code changes have broken my features enough that I haven’t had time to figure out how to fix them. So, sometimes options have to be removed. Here is a list of options that I have removed in this release.
  • [Popular] Hide "Trending Articles" and "Trending Videos"
  • [Layout] Expand "Messages" to show the "Other" folder unread count
  • [Layout] Add “My Friends” and Blocked Friends & Apps” links to left navigation
  • [Layout] Show all available sections in the left navigation bar
  • [Posts] Prevent external link redirection
  • [Chat] Show all online friends in chat list
  • [Chat] Change profile images in Chat conversation windows to friend names
  • [Chat] Group friends by online status
  • [Timeline] Display posts in a single column

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 10.6 (Sep 29, 2014)

  • What’s Fixed:
  • The Control Panel stopped floating down when the page was scrolled
  • Locking the blue header bar to the top stopped working
  • Image Previews when hovering didn’t show in some cases
  • The “Home” link in the header was no longer hideable
  • The “Find Friends” link in the header was no longer hideable
  • The red “badge” indicator on the wrench icon was not displaying correctly
  • What’s New:
  • Improved performance! Some internal code optimizations have made Social Fixer run faster than ever.
  • Added a link to the Support Group whenever commenting on Social Fixer posts in the news feed. The goal is to direct people to the place where they can get the best assistance.
  • Added a simple error message to the Image Preview “loading” popup when a full sized image cannot be loaded. In some cases, I cannot calculate the correct full sized image location.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 10.4 (Sep 29, 2014)

  • What’s Fixed:
  • Preferences would often not save in Firefox 30+. This turned out to be a complex problem caused by an internal browser change.
  • The News Feed would load posts forever, slowing down the browser. Now it once again stops after loading 5 pages of posts, so the browser can take a rest.
  • Greasemonkey 2.0 caused errors because of a change in their code.
  • Posts would sometimes disappear in Chrome, especially when they had been moved to a tab and you switched to that tab.
  • Newer themes (Midnight, Desktop, Appassionata) were missing from the theme selector window.
  • In some cases, Social Fixer would run invisibly in hidden windows or in other cases, causing slowdown. It now runs only when really needed.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 10.1 (Sep 29, 2014)

  • What's Fixed:
  • A code change by Facebook caused the News Feed to stop loading more posts when scrolled to the bottom, and clicking “More Stories” did not work. I have also added a new option at the top of the “Advanced” tab of Social Fixer options to completely disable its handling of the More Stories loading, in case this happens again. You should never need to use it. It’s there as a safety valve, just in case something like this happens again.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 10.0 (Sep 29, 2014)

  • What's Fixed:
  • Chat options should now work correctly again.
  • Auto-tabbing and filtering by Apps and Games works again, and 150+ of the most popular apps and games have been added to the auto-known list.
  • You can now hide the following, by hovering over them and clicking the “x” in the upper right:
  • “Trending” box on the right
  • The prompt at the top of the news feed asking you to switch back to Top Stories
  • “Related Links” that appear after clicking on a story in the News Feed
  • Posts in Groups were not being processed/filtered correctly, and the action icons like “Mark Read” were not available.
  • Improved auto-switching from Top Stories to Most Recent news feed.
  • Improved picture previews in the news feed when hovering over
  • The “Missing Posts” problem should no longer be an issue. (Where Social Fixer would tell you there are posts in a tab, but you’d click on it and nothing would be there, or posts would disappear in front of your eyes).
  • The pinned post in the Social Fixer User Support group renders distinctly again and extra support information can be added to posted questions.
  • Improved anonymizing of “ticker” content (though still not perfect)
  • Fixed the “Google It” button’s ability to find the content of posts
  • Fixed the “Save for Later” button on posts. (It’s not pretty, but it works.)
  • Fixed the “requireLazy” errors that appeared for some users
  • What's New:
  • New Option (Notifications tab): “Open Messages from dropdown in full window rather than chat popup”. When clicking messages from the top bar dropdown, they will no longer open in an annoying little chat box.
  • Add a “Sort By Last Name” button to the Friends tab of personal profiles.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 9.0 (Sep 29, 2014)

  • What's Fixed:
  • Recent Facebook code changes caused many key Social Fixer features to stop working for some users – mark posts as read, filtering, tabbing, etc. This version should resolve those problems for most users.
  • Filtering now works for text in the “tag line” like "X commented on this"
  • Comment counts were not being correctly calculated when "view X more comments" links existed new_wrench_menu
  • What's New:
  • The wrench menu has been rearranged and divided into sections to make it clearer
  • New feature: Show “Hidden” Sections under the wrench menu shows parts of the screen that have been hidden by Social Fixer options.
  • A link to the blog has been added under the wrench menu. When a new blog post is detected, a link directly to it will be inserted, along with its title. A “1” indicator will be shown on the wrench menu when there is a new unseen blog post. An option in the “Advanced” tab has been added to disable this feature entirely (please don’t!)
  • What's Changed:
  • The functionality to auto-click older posts has been broken by Facebook and may not be fixable. I cannot figure out a way into their code. Yet.
  • Posts will be auto-loaded as you scroll down, as it is by default on Facebook. However, Social Fixer stops the auto-loading after 5 page loads, to prevent their code from going into an eternal loop and loading hundreds of pages worth of posts. This is a necessary trade-off, and to continue loading more you can just click ‘More Stories’.
  • For some reason, Facebook removes posts from the feed when it detects that you are not looking at them. For example, if you’ve loaded 100 posts but are at the top of your news feed, Facebook will silently remove 50 posts from the end of the feed. I don’t know why they do this, but it causes problems with Social Fixer because posts are not in the places they think they are (due to filtering and tabbing). So I have prevented this functionality to the best of my ability. But if you see posts randomly disappearing in front of your eyes, it means I have some more work to do.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 8.0 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • What’s Removed:
  • Friend Tracker (Learn Why). As an alternative, check out http://who.deleted.me
  • Hiding Sponsored Posts (Learn Why). As an alternative, check out AdBlock Plus
  • What’s New:
  • Post processing (mark as read, etc) and Filtering can each now be separately enabled or disabled on the News Feed, Groups, and Pages/Timelines. These can be found in the “Posts” and “Filtering” tabs, respectively
  • imageA “Sort By Name” button is now inserted when viewing the Friends tab of a profile
  • New option in Advanced tab: “Position the wrench icon to the left rather than the right”
  • feature_hideMore things can be hidden by hovering over them and clicking the X that appears in the upper right corner: Trending box under Composer, Similar To [Page] dropdown when you Like a news feed post, Like Page button on News Feed, Birthday Reminders
  • What’s Fixed:
  • A Chrome bug caused people to lose their wrench icon entirely. A fix is in place to make Social Fixer usable when this happens (usually after a Windows system restore) but there are limitations
  • Some posts in Groups were hidden because they were being incorrectly flagged as duplicates
  • Clicking a notification about a comment or post in a Group would not go directly to the post
  • The “Social Fixer Message” box that I used occasionally for important messages couldn’t be closed with a “Close” button
  • Prevented the "Add App" button from appearing on posts which use Facebook's built-in apps like Status, Photos, etc
  • What’s Changed:
  • Changed the option to "Process posts on Group Walls" to disabled by default for new installs
  • Changed the default value for hiding "read" posts on timelines to FALSE
  • Filtering of groups is now DISABLED by default, but can be enabled in options

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.801 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • What's Changed:
  • The “More Stories” settings should now work correctly for everyone. The default behavior of loading more stories when you scroll to the bottom works like normal, except for when it detects an endless loading loop. In this case, a message will be displayed and loading will be paused. In case these options ever stop working correctly, a new option in the Advanced tab has been created to completely disable all fixes associated with More Stories. This is only for worst-case scenarios and shouldn’t be checked unless needed
  • New Option on the Popular tab: “Disable auto-refresh of the news feed to insert stories at the top”. If you’ve ever been annoyed at your feed jumping down because new stories were inserted at the top, this feature prevents that from happening
  • Fixed error messages in Safari 7
  • Fixed NS_ERROR_OUT_OF_MEMORY error messages in Firefox 23+ that some users were experiencing
  • Fixed the option to mark application posts as read and open in a new tab when links are clicked
  • New option in the Advanced tab: “When clicking a notification about a group post, go directly to the post rather than the group feed.”
  • Added a help message that appears when posting to the Support Group, and enhanced the pinned post with custom styling to draw attention to it for new users
  • Fixed the “Save to Pocket” feature by making it open in a new window instead of an embedded window. This change was required due to a change in the Pocket website itself

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.711 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • What's Changed:
  • The following should now work for everyone
  • Auto-clicking the More Stories link to retrieve more pages (if enabled)
  • Scrolling down will load more posts automatically (unless disabled)
  • Manually clicking More Stories will work correctly
  • These features will also work correctly when viewing Lists
  • A few tweaks and improvements to the Anonymize feature
  • A fix for pressing in the Search field in Social Fixer Options

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.701 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • What's New:
  • Reinstated Timeline display options that were prematurely removed in last release
  • Auto-clicking of "More Stories" now works more reliably and has a new notification bar at the bottom of the feed, where you can also pause and resume
  • Improved the option to Anonymize the screen, including dummy names for users instead of "FBUser #1" and background colors to distinguish them. The colors can be disabled using a new option in the "Advanced" tab
  • New option: Hide the "tooltip" that pops up when you hover over the status update box or comments, sometimes hiding the view of the text you are typing
  • What's Fixed:
  • Automatic loading of posts when you scroll to the bottom works correctly
  • Fixed in Chrome: Auto-clicking "More Stories" and auto-switching to the Most Recent news feed view
  • Tagged posts could not be approved on Timeline Review
  • Fixed issue with blue header bar being really tall in some situations
  • Reduced the size of the "User Tab > Enter to Submit Comment" button
  • Image preview no longer shows when you are on the actual photo page (previously, it blocked the ability of some users to tag the photos, etc)
  • Hashtag formatting wasn't being applied to hashtags in comments
  • The "Save For Later" action wasn't grabbing the actual url, and was saving the Facebook post url instead

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.601 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • What's New:
  • Hashtags: Added a new section to Options to customize the display of the new #Hashtag links
  • Notifications: Added a new “Notifications” item in the Option dialog’s left panel, where all the options related to Notifications are now stored. Added a new option to hide the notification “Beeper” box that appears in the lower left corner when a new notification comes in.
  • Tab > Enter to Submit Comments: Added a checkbox to the blue button to disable this feature. Although this could always be disabled in Options, this shortcut will be easier for users to find.
  • What's Fixed:
  • Chat: The display of the user list didn’t render correctly, and clicking on a name in the list didn’t pop up the chat window. Chat fixes also didn’t work on Chrome v27+.
  • Firefox: An “evalInSandbox” error was popping up for some users after Mozilla changed some of their internal Firefox code.
  • Wrench Icon: Has been moved to the far right after a Facebook layout changed caused their icons to overlap the wrench icon for some users. If the wrench icon is off the right side of the screen and you can’t scroll to it, zoom out in your browser, and disable the “Lock the blue header bar at the top even if the screen is small” option in Social Fixer Options.
  • Image Preview: Some image previews were not showing correctly, and others were not showing at all.
  • Messages: When the “Fix Timestamp” option was enabled, messages only displayed “Today” rather than the actual time.
  • Hidden Items: Some items that were hidden on the screen with the “x” couldn’t be un-hidden in options.
  • Ads: Were not being hidden correctly in the photo popup viewer
  • Anonymize Screen: Minor fixes to hide things that were not being hidden.
  • Social Fixer was running on some sites other than Facebook.com, inside of embedded plugins and iframes. This has been fixed.
  • Removed console debug logging during startup, which annoyed some users.
  • What's Removed:
  • Removed Timeline options. Almost every account/page is now converted over to the single-column content layout, causing most of the Timeline options to stop working. New options to customize the new Timeline layout may be added later.
  • Tagging in Comment Replies: This option has been temporarily removed because a Facebook code change prevents it from functioning correctly, causing a character to be shown instead. User names will still be inserted, but they will not be tagged or notified.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.5 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • What's New:
  • New Theme: Dark Facebook
  • Added the ability to hide many things in the left column and elsewhere by hovering over and clicking the "x". If you previously hid sections using the old options, you can re-hide them using the "x" that appears in the upper right when you hover. (Note: Sometimes the "x" displays incorrectly in Chrome 24. This appears to be a Chrome bug which is fixed in Chrome 25. The functionality still works in Chrome 24.)
  • New option (Layout tab): Show all available sections in the left navigation bar (on by default)
  • Added more known apps/games to be auto-tabbed
  • What's Fixed:
  • Chat display was messed up! If you entered a temporary fix in the CSS tab to fix chat, it should be removed.
  • Message times were not shown on inbox messages when the "fix timestamps" option was enabled.
  • The Social Fixer options button (wrench) was not visible on accounts with the new Graph Search enabled. If you entered a temporary fix in the CSS tab to fix this, it should be removed.
  • When names in the chat list contained an apostrophe (') they could not be clicked on to initiate a chat
  • Long names in the chat list wrapped incorrectly.
  • Control panel didn't float down the page when scrolling in Chrome when that option was enabled.
  • Using the mouse wheel to scroll Notifications didn't always scroll directly
  • In some cases, hovering over a profile picture only showed the upper left corner of the picture in the image preview
  • The color-selector theme wasn't working in Chrome
  • When clicking a link in an application post, the "automatically mark story as read" feature didn't work if the link was https: instead of http:
  • Floating comment reply box didn't work correctly. It now works, but you must press "ESC" to re-hide it.
  • When selecting the default theme or canceling options, the default theme was not restored
  • Hide profile pictures in notification list stopped working
  • Tab count incorrectly included hidden sponsored stories
  • The Help popup icons in the Popular tab of options did not appear
  • What's Changed:
  • When quoting text in a comment reply, it will now be prefixed with "User Name wrote:", adding the word "wrote".
  • Notification previews will now only display after a short delay
  • Improvements to the Anonymize Screen function
  • Improved filtering of sponsored stories
  • Improved identification of unique posts, keyed by time posted. This will prevent posts about new photos being posted to existing albums being incorrectly marked as read, for example.
  • What's Removed:
  • Removed a number of options which were obsolete because of Facebook changes

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.321 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • Fixes In This Release:
  • The "SECURITY_ERR: DOM Exception 18" error that Chrome users were seeing has been resolved. See below for details.
  • Changed an image reference in the code from http to https to avoid security warnings.
  • Fixed the background color when hovering over items in the wrench dropdown menu.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.3 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • Fixes In This Release:
  • Users of Firefox 17+ were getting javascript errors, caused by changes to the security model in the new browser version.
  • Photos in the new album layout didn't show previews when hovering over them.
  • The control panel didn't float correctly in cases.
  • The detection and counting of new comments to posts which have been marked as read has been fixed and improved
  • Auto-expand comments (to avoid the 'see more' link) was broken, causing the page to jerk to the top randomly. This feature has been temporarily disabled until it can be fixed.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.201 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • Fixes In This Release:
  • Restored the "Select All" button when inviting friends to events. It is now placed at the bottom, near the Save button.
  • Fixed the hiding and collapsing of sections in the right column.
  • The Tab>Enter fix failed to work correctly when commenting on items from the Ticker pop-out.
  • The control panel appeared on top of some drop-down menus.
  • Removed the option to hide old (read) comments on posts in the news feed when new ones are found. There is no reliable way to do this anymore.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 7.105 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • Fixes In This Release:
  • Enter = Newline in comments. Many users have received Facebook's new code, which broke this existing functionality. This release updates the Social Fixer code to handle their new format, but unfortunately it changes the functionality a little. Instead of a clickable "Comment" button, you can now trigger the comment to submit by pressing Tab then Enter. Without the fix, pressing Enter anywhere in the comment would submit it. I realize that this is not an ideal fix, but their code is extremely complex and I haven't found a better way to do it yet and still retain the functionality of Enter creating a Newline.
  • The "Reply" link in comments has been restored after their changes broke it. Sometimes it's a bit quirky now with inserting a link to the original person's name. I'm still working on it. Note: The option to float the comment text box while replying is currently not working, so it does nothing.
  • Font size settings for comments were not being applied everywhere. Fixed.
  • The "Select All" button stopped appearing when inviting friends to events, after Facebook changed their code. It now works again.
  • When a Facebook Application requested access in a popup window, clicking the "Audience" selector caused a new window to open to Facebook instead of the Audience selector dropdown. Fixed.
  • The options dialog rendered incorrectly so that the options fall below the left column for some users in Chrome. Fixed.
  • Browser Compatibility Changes:
  • Some users of older versions of Chrome were still seeing the setup wizard repeatedly, or found that their preferences would not stick. Although I don't officially support Chrome < 19, I've packaged up a separate install package to support these older versions.
  • Added better support for Rockmelt, CoolNovo, and other browsers based on older versions of Chrome/Chromium.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 6.401 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • New:
  • Added a new “Timeline” tab in Social Fixer Options with several new options to customize display of Timeline pages. A small options panel will also appear on Timeline pages to allow quick changing of options (see right).
  • Added the ability to hide the new mini-footer in the right column by hovering over it and clicking the ‘x’.
  • New Option in the “Posts” tab: Automatically click the “Not Spam” link on comments marked as SPAM. This is a convenient way for Page owners who are the victim of Facebook’s over-zealous anti-spam feature, which often marks comments as SPAM which are not. This will automatically unmark all flagged comments (and mark them with a green left border), but then the Page owner needs to delete comments manually which actually are spam. (Most users will not need this feature, but some will find it useful!)
  • Posts can now be filtered based on their privacy setting using a text-based filter and matching on the following terms: “privacy:public”, “privacy:friends”, or “privacy:custom”. This is mostly for experienced users, who should know how this works!
  • Added “Hidden Chronicles” and “Mafia Wars 2” to the list of known Apps.
  • Changed:
  • Hovering over images on Timeline pages now shows previews correctly.
  • Added color-coding to the Friend Tracker – red if someone unfriends you, green if they re-friend you.
  • Friend Tracker now displays a message with a link to the FAQ if it’s stuck on “Loading” for more than 7 seconds.
  • Updated Firefox compatibility to 13.0a1
  • Fixed:
  • Facebook released a new photo viewer popup format. If the option was enabled to restore the comment button, it didn’t work in these popups so users could not comment on photos in the new popup.
  • Posts were sometimes being automatically marked as read when clicking on any link in the post, or randomly when new comments were dynamically inserted, if the option to “Automatically mark a post as read after commenting on it” option was enabled. A new, more reliable method of triggering this event is now being used.
  • When hovering over Notifications to see the preview, sometimes the “Loading” bubble would get stuck and remain visible on the page even after moving the cursor away from the Notification item.
  • Removing the last Filter and saving wouldn’t actually remove it.
  • When anonymizing the screen, sometimes user profile images would become abnormally large.
  • Improved positioning and style when Notifications are “pinned” to the right.
  • When offline, the Chat stub at the bottom would show “Chat (Offline)(0)” when chat options were enabled. Fixed to now show “(0)”.
  • Some users saw multiple “Add filter” buttons in the Filtering tab of Options.
  • When using Chat options to control the visible list of friends on chat, long lists didn’t have a scroll bar.
  • With the “Stretch wide” option enabled, Timeline pages would render incorrectly – either too narrow or too wide. Stretching to full width has been disabled on Timeline pages.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 6.301 (Nov 4, 2013)

  • New:
  • Friend Tracker now reports when you've been re-friended by someone, after they've previously unfriended you, unblocked you, or restored their disabled profile.
  • When replying to Messages, pressing Tab from the message composer wouldn't tab to the Reply button, to make Tab->Enter a quick send key combination. Social Fixer now forces this to work.
  • Changed:
  • When Social Fixer automatically switches you to the "Recent Stories First" view of your news feed, you will now see a message after the switch, with the option to hide the message.
  • Removed the option to manually sort the feed into chronological order, because there is now a chronological sort option built into Facebook.
  • The note shown when Friend Tracker finds an unfriend now has a link to the FAQ for an explanation, and can be dismissed permanently.
  • Fixes
  • Fixed some speed problems when typing comments – characters would appear very slowly.
  • Fixed a display quirk which caused the first post in a tabbed stream to squish to the right.
  • General performance improvements in rendering and post processing.
  • When "Automatically mark a post as 'read' after commenting on it " was enabled, the comment count was not updated with the newly-added comment.
  • Some applications were no longer being tabbed after a Facebook change
  • Fixed "Change profile images in chat to names" after a Facebook change broke it
  • The option to float the control panel down the page when scrolling stopped positioning it correctly.
  • Some sections in the right panel (like "Sponsored") were not collapsing correctly when clicked, and sometimes weren't staying collapsed on reload.
  • With the "stretch wide" option enabled, the right sidebar (when visible) would cover up content on the right side of the news feed or in the blue header bar.
  • In some cases, posts with new comments were staying hidden rather than highlighting the new comments.
  • The "fix" for wheel scrolling in Ticker preview popups didn't work correctly for people using Macs and the two-finger swipe. This "fix" has been removed until I can find a way around it.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 5.931 (Sep 22, 2011)

  • Updated to fix problems with Facebook's new layout changes.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 5.921 (Sep 22, 2011)

  • New:
  • New options to hide “Groups”, “Apps”, and “Pages” sections of the new left navigation bar in Options->Layout
  • New “Hide” feature. Hovering over some elements on the page, like the “Find Friends” link in the header or the “live tickers” on game pages will show an “x” icon in the upper right. Click it to hide the selected area of the page. You can unhide elements in the new “Hidden” tab in Options
  • Added new filter type: “Posts to Pages”
  • Added a number of new apps and games to the auto-tab list
  • Changes:
  • Disabled the Friend Circles functionality because Facebook’s recent privacy changes broke everything. This will take considerable work to add back in.
  • When friends are on mobile devices in the chat list, the mobile icon will now be shown
  • Added a “click to expand” message on right sidebar pagelets that have been collapsed, because some users couldn’t figure out how to expand them
  • Updated Firefox compatibility to 9.0a1
  • Fixes:
  • Character counter in status update box was sometimes being shown more than once.
  • The “Live Feed” (aka “Happening Now”) ticker on the right was not being hidden after a Facebook code change.
  • On some pages, with “fixed header” enabled, the header would push all the way to the left side of the screen
  • Fixed the post timestamp formatting problems caused by a Facebook code change
  • Fixed the “mark as read after comment” option after a Facebook code change
  • When only 1 or 2 friends were on chat, the chat menu dropped below the bottom of the page, making it impossible to go offline, etc.
  • Post action icons were colliding with the new security-setting dropdown on posts from the user. Now, post action icons are shifted left to make room for the security-setting dropdown.
  • For some users, Games pages showed the game shifted down the page from the top
  • Left-column sections like “My Pages”, “My Events”, etc we badly formatted after Facebook changes

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 5.911 (Aug 20, 2011)

  • New:
  • New Option in Chat tab: Group friends by online status (active on top, idle below).
  • Note: Recent Facebook changes to chat may cause idle users to not be shown. This is a Facebook change, not a BFB change.
  • Changes:
  • The popup chat list of friends online will now shrink to be just big enough to fit the content.
  • Chat dock in lower right now shows the count of users online. Note: Facebook has recently added this feature themselves, but the BFB feature will work as a backup.
  • An “[options]” link now appears in the chat popup list that links directly to the Chat tab in Options
  • Performance improvements for Chat and Circles loading
  • When post privacy is changed using the default Facebook padlock, those changes are now reflected in the Circles UI also.
  • Removed the option for “Use Facebook’s built-in list editor instead of CircleHack.com” and turned the “Edit Friend Circles” button into a dropdown to select which editing interface to use.
  • Bug Fixes:
  • Removed Friends Activity because it caused some new problems. I’ll try to fix it and add it back in as an option.
  • Pinning Notifications to the right sometimes caused it to stall and never load, and also prevent other features from working correctly (mostly in Chrome).
  • When clicking on notifications about messages in discussion boards, only the first post would be displayed.
  • Chat would sometimes cause an error and show an alert icon when Friends Activity was enabled.
  • When viewing emails in Messages, scrolling up would repeatedly load previous messages and prevent the left navigation bar from being reachable.
  • When selecting “Friends” in Circles and excluding a circle, permissions may not have been set correctly.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 5.901 (Aug 6, 2011)

  • New:
  • New “Chat” tab in Options lets you revert chat to its old behavior, show all online friends, hide the chat sidebar, or hide chat entirely.
  • Circles! When making a post, two new buttons have been added by the Share button – “Edit Friend Circles” and “Post Privacy”. This will let you easily setup friend circles, and control which circles see the post. This feature can be disabled in the “Posts” tab of Options. Learn more here!
  • New Option in Layout tab: “Hide the “live” feed of friends activity” in right column
  • New Option in Layout tab: “Unlock the right column so it scrolls with the page” in right column
  • Changes:
  • Expanded text-based filters to also match on the author’s name and the text of location posts.
  • Users with the new layout having the “live feed” on the right and fixed-position top/left sections will have them return back to scrollable unless the options to lock the left column or header are checked in Options
  • Updated Firefox extension compatibility to 8.0a1
  • Bug Fixes:
  • Some spacing issues with the fixed header bar caused the top portion of some pages to be hidden.
  • In some cases, the prevention of link redirection wasn’t working correctly.
  • Some “location” posts (like “Friend A was at Place”) didn’t stay read after Facebook introduced a new glitch in their data. Although some of these posts still will not filter correctly, they should remain hidden once marked as read.
  • Fixed “Select All” button (again) in Invite Friends popup after Facebook again changed their code.
  • Mark All Read” didn’t work on Groups pages
  • The option to pin notifications to the right sidebar stopped working correctly after a Facebook code change.

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 5.852 (Jun 15, 2011)

  • Featured Changes:
  • New Option: “Process posts on Group Walls, add control panel, and allow Mark As Read” in the “Posts” tab. Turning off this option will hide the control panel on Group walls and post action icons on Group posts.
  • Posts on Groups walls will no longer be re-ordered, so the recently updated posts will once again float to the top.
  • Other Changes:
  • The “Anonymize Screen” menu item and “Better Facebook Options” item in the Account dropdown (if enabled) have been bumped up from the bottom, so the Log Out remains the last item in the list
  • Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed several bugs having to do with the notifications alert: Pinning to the right, scrolling the notifications list, and showing preview on hover all stopped working after a Facebook code change.
  • Fixed some quirks and bugs with the Anonymize Screen feature
  • On some slow computers, saving the Options popup before the filters could be rendered caused them to be wiped out
  • Clicking the X to close “Tips of the Day” didn’t actually close the box
  • The “Select All” button in a new event’s “Invite Friends” popup stopped appearing after a Facebook code change.
  • Fixed a couple cases where image preview on hover was not working

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 5.801 (Jun 2, 2011)

  • Posts on new Groups pages can now be marked as read, and the control panel appears on Group walls
  • New Option: “Put the “Options” link under the “Account” menu” (in the “Display” tab). This will put the Better Facebook options link under the “Account” dropdown in the header to conserve space.
  • New Option: “Prevent external link redirection” under the “Posts” tab. This will prevent from running external links through its redirector, which checks for malicious links, logs your link click, and prevents the target site from knowing the Facebook.com url you were at when you clicked. This option should only be enabled if you know exactly what it means.
  • New Feature: Under the “Account” menu in the blue header bar, an “Anonymize Screen” item has been added. Use this when you are sharing Facebook screenshots with the world, to convert all friend names and profile pictures into generic, anonymized versions!
  • Full prevention of Lightbox popup
  • Other Changes:
  • With Fixed Header enabled, sometimes the Notifications list was too long and scrolled off the bottom of the screen, making items unreachable. The notifications box will now have a scrollbar if it is long.
  • BFB Update notifications will now appear in the right column, so they stay out of your way until you are ready to update.
  • Bug Fixes:
  • Problems with buttons being unreachable when “Stretch the layout to full screen width” is enabled have been fixed.

  • Fixed a problem that sometimes prevented the “Help” message from appearing when users post to the Better Facebook Page on Facebook.

  • Reply” to comments didn’t work on some Pages
  • The option to “fix timestamps” on posts was dropping the date and year on posts that were very old, so only the time was visible.
  • Removed the check for multiple versions being installed because some users were seeing it in error.
  • Pressing Ctrl+z while in a textarea or input incorrectly triggered the “undo” action.
  • Fixed a slight rendering glitch in Firefox when fixing timestamps
  • Fixed a problem that caused the daily pruning of old story data to not work correctly.
  • Under The Hood:
  • Updated Firefox compatibility to versions

New in Social Fixer for Firefox 5.701 (May 16, 2011)

  • Featured Changes:
  • New Option: Fix the missing cursor problem in comment boxes (“Posts” tab). Many users (mostly using Firefox) have the problem of the cursor not being visible in comment boxes. This fix resolves that problem. By default, it is enabled for Firefox users.
  • New Option: Fix the line wrap problem in comments as you type past the end of line (“Posts” tab). Some users see a problem where entering text in comments does not cause the text box to grow to a new line when it should. This fixes that problem.
  • Added new story types: “Facebook Deals” (366,289), Tagged posts (77), Relationships (62,9), Posts to private groups (308), Posts to event walls (55), and Friend playing game (360). You may now select these stores in the Filtering tab of Options to hide them, tab them, etc.
  • Added “Relationship Changes” to the recent activity types to optionally remove (Display tab in Options). So now you can uncheck this if you don’t want BFB to remove from your wall the news that you just got married Smile
  • New Option: Disable Facebook’s auto-loading of more posts as you scroll down (on the Posts tab). By default, Facebook loads more posts as you scroll near the bottom of the page. This sometimes conflicts with BFB’s auto-clicking of Older Posts, and sometimes it just annoys people. By default, BFB disables this feature of FB, but you can change it back if you want to.
  • Changed: Pressing Esc anywhere on the document (rather than just when cursor is in the comment box) now puts the floating “Reply” comment box back to its original position
  • Fixed: The option to stretch the news feed to full width stopped working after a Facebook code change.
  • Bug Fixes:

  • Some filters based on Author were not filtering correctly because of missing internal Facebook data

  • Image preview stopped working on some profile pictures in news feed
