What's new in Cloud Print for Windows 2.5.0

Sep 15, 2020
  • As of this date there is no longer a license fee for Cloud Print for Windows. This version is automatically a Pro License for all installations. Support is no longer guaranteed.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.11 (Dec 3, 2019)

  • Fixed several problems in how errors are counted and recorded.
  • Discovered the App Not Verified error screen from Google that appears during authentication with GCP. Started the verification process with Google so the screen will not appear. Note that when this screen appears, if you clicked Back To Safety, you would be redirected to a nonsense web page. Fixed that issue. Note there is no problem in clicking Advanced and then go to Cloud Print for Windows to get past the not verified screen.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.10 (Jun 27, 2019)

  • Removed the code signing security certificate which displays our company name during installs. The cost of the certificate exceeded the value it provided.
  • The process of authenticating the login to Google Cloud Print was increasingly interfered with as Microsoft tightened security in Windows. Unless the security zones in Internet Options were set appropriately, the authentication process, which is web based, would not function correctly and leave the user wondering what went wrong. This has been fixed. A way was found to adjust the security zone settings temporarily during the authentication process.
  • Fixed some issues with the installer that could cause hangs during the install.
  • Updated to better support Windows Server 2016 & 2019.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.8 (Jul 13, 2018)

  • Fixed an issue where some anti-virus products caused our install to fail with a permissions error. The fix is to work around the problem by not automatically providing some privilege escalations. To the user, this will mean having to approve some actions that require Administrator privilege.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.7 (Jan 23, 2018)

  • Fixed a bug in the XMPP reconnection after XMPP connection failure. The reconnect was duplicated and could lead to error 500 ‘Too Many XMPP Bindings’
  • Fixed Controller to display the GCP printer ID for Special (disk, email) printers
  • Removed dialog screen from installer that asked for feedback when users uninstall CPfW. Not one user entered anything useful on that dialog. It also appears that this feature may have caused some full uninstalls to fail and leave CPfW partially installed

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.6 (Jul 29, 2017)

  • We continue to chase the authentication failures and have added more information to the data returned to our error server when these failures occur. Hopefully this extra information will reveal the cause of this problem.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.5 (Jul 4, 2017)

  • The fix for the Google authentication issue in 2.4.2 did not completely solve this problem. Some users have been seeing the error ‘Authentication with Google failed. Try again’ on first start up or when trying to re-authenticate with Google. We think this is fixed now.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.4 (Jun 2, 2017)

  • Fixed a bug in Job Tracking that caused tracking to fail when jobs are submitted at the same time the tracking function is checking GCP for job status.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.3 (Jun 2, 2017)

  • Fixed a problem registering Lexmark T654 printers.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.2 (May 18, 2017)

  • For reasons only Google knows, the change in authentication protocol that caused the authentication failures fixed in 2.4.1, is only present on some Windows versions and not others. So the fix in 2.4.1 fixed some cases but broke others. Now fixed to handle both forms of the authentication protocol

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.1 (May 12, 2017)

  • An unannounced change in the Google authentication protocol caused any new or refresh authentication with Google to not complete the authentication process. The Controller failed to detect this error and so it took no action. However subsequent service starts would fail to login to the GCP server. This is fixed. Click the button on the Controller screen to the right of the Login box to complete authentication with Google if you have run into this problem.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.4.0 (May 5, 2017)

  • Added a new feature called Job Tracking. When a job is submitted to GCP to be printed, CPfW will monitor the job and if the job is in the wait state for more than 5 minutes or fails with an error, you will be notified via the controller app
  • You can now transfer a CPfW license from one PC to another yourself. Select Transfer License from the controller Help menu to open the Transfer License screen. Please read the section on license transfers in the online help before attempting a license transfer

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.3.6 (Mar 28, 2017)

  • Fixed a bug that caused jobs submitted to Canon M2700 printers that are connected directly to GCP, to be rejected by the printer and sit in the GCP queue in the Error state. This bug may have affected other printer makes and models. Please note that if jobs submitted via CPfW do not print and the GCP management web site indicates the job is in the error state, please report this. We can’t fix problems if we don’t know about them and we don’t have every printer make/model in our lab. We rely on users to let us know when things are not working

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.3.5 (Mar 1, 2017)

  • Added additional error reporting to try to identify the cause of certain unexplained authentication failures.
  • Added a screen that appears when uninstalling asking the reason you are uninstalling. This is to try to collect information on how to improve this product and increase adoption.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.3.4 (Feb 16, 2017)

  • Modified to support IPP type Windows printers created by the Novell/Micro Focus iPrint client.
  • Fixed a bug in the Virtual Printer driver that would cause some page sizes to be formatted incorrectly when in landscape mode.
  • Fixed a second bug in the Virtual Printer driver that caused some page sizes to be positioned .25 inch left and .18 inch high from the correct position on the PDF page uploaded to GCP. If you find you have page positioning issues after this update please contact tech support.
  • Text files with the .zpl extension will now be sent through GCP as RAW data when submitted via the Submit Job screen or dropped into a printer submission directory.
  • When the controller app is automatically started in a Terminal Server session, it is supposed to exit immediately since there can only be one instance of the controller running at any one time. A bug prevented that from working and controller app instances would be started for every TS session login. This is fixed. Auto start of the controller only occurs on the console session.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.3.3 (Jan 18, 2017)

  • A change in print formatting was made in v2.3.0 that was supposed to improve monochrome printing (print not dark enough) but had the unwanted effect of making images and some fonts print too dark as well. After researching this, it was decided to roll back the change and modify how we handle grayscale and monochrome printing. For a complete discussion of this issue please consult the online help
  • Some printers require a code to be sent with print jobs in order to be printed. This is typically an accounting code or security code. Previously CPfW could not handle this requirement. Now, there is a work around to send codes to printers that register themselves with GCP. If you have a need to do this, contact technical support for details

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.3.2 (Jan 5, 2017)

  • It is no longer necessary for the Controller app to restart with Administrative permission to make configuration changes or control the CPfW service. Regular users can now configure and control CPfW. Administrative permission is still required to install or uninstall.
  • Fixed several bugs discovered during the extensive research and testing done to address the Google problems with submitting jobs during December.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.3.1 (Dec 26, 2016)

  • Fixed a bug introduced in v2.3 that resulted in the error ‘Object Reference not set to instance of an object’ when printing with diagnostic tracing turned off.
  • Fixed several other bugs in error reporting to our server. Due to these bugs we were not receiving reports for some errors.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.3.0 (Dec 8, 2016)

  • Google Cloud Print supports printing from URLs. CPfW now supports this as well. You can submit a web page address (URL) to be printed in one of several ways. CPfW submits that URL to GCP and GCP will download the web resource pointed to by the URL and use it as the content of the new print job. This is very handy for printing web pages just by entering the page URL on the Submit New Print Job screen. See the on-line help for more information about how to submit URLs as print jobs
  • The Submit New Print Job screen now remembers the last 10 files that have been submitted and loads the most recent file when the screen opens. The last selected printer is also remembered and automatically selected again
  • Removed specific dependency on the .Net Framework 3.5. CPfW will now run on 3.5 or later
  • Added an option to Settings to reduce the number of prompts you have to respond to when the Controller restarts in Admin mode
  • Various bug fixes
  • Note. We have determined that Google has a limit of 50 CPfW clients using the same Google account. If you exceed this limit, your oldest authenticated client will lose access and that client will fail. You can re-authenticate that client but then the next oldest will lose access. If you will have more than 50 CPfW clients you will need to split them over multiple Google accounts. You can also run into this problem if you re-authenticate clients often

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.9 (Nov 8, 2016)

  • Due to unexpected changes in Google authentication, CPfW stopped authenticating with Google causing the CPfW service to fail to start and if running the service would fail when it tried to access GCP. This issue has been fixed.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.8 (Aug 9, 2016)

  • Some users have had problems with authentication with Google which result in error 500, ‘internal_error’. Until recently we had no idea what was causing these errors. It now appears that the 500 error is another possible result of changing the account (password, access permission) that CPfW is authenticated to. Modified our code to recognize this and report the 500 as a failure to authenticate and suggest to the user to reauthorize with Google by clicking the button on the controller screen.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.7 (Aug 3, 2016)

  • Google suddenly stopped accepting authorization requests from the Controller app. Google would report “your browser is not supported and should be updated”…even though the browsers on the system are current. A change in Internet Explorer configuration is required to fix this Google compatibility problem. Our installer now makes this change and authorization with Google is back to normal.
  • Determined that changing the password of the Google account CPfW is connected to will result in error 403, Access Denied. If you change your account password you must reauthorize CPfW to access your account. Modified to report this specifically instead of just showing error 403. Same for revoking CPfW’s app permissions in the Google account control panel.
  • Fixed a corner case bug that would cause the Controller not to record the new authorization code when authorizing with Google. CPfW would continue to use the old authorization code and that could result in access errors.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.6 (Jul 20, 2016)

  • Fixed a bug that could cause the service component to hang on shutdown necessitating use of Task Manager to kill the service
  • Fixed the printer Job List screen to not display the View context menu option when looking at jobs in the GCP queue. We can’t actually view those jobs, only jobs that have been downloaded and retained locally

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.5 (Apr 13, 2016)

  • The Microsoft Image and Document Writer virtual printers are not supported by CPfW. The controller has been updated to not offer such printers for registration with GCP
  • Fixed a minor bug that could cause registry access denied errors

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.4 (Feb 4, 2016)

  • Corrected a bug in the Quiet Times feature that caused a failure when checking quiet times on Sundays.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.3 (Oct 3, 2015)

  • Fixed a bug introduced in 2.2.2 that caused startup failures on systems using non-English languages.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.2 (Sep 5, 2015)

  • Fixed a corner-case bug in our authentication with GCP that caused some authentication failures
  • Disallowed switching from Oauth2 authentication back to the old Client Login authentication. Client Login is no longer supported by Google so switching back leads to authentication failures. For unknown reasons, some users switched back and then could not authenticate

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.1 (Aug 5, 2015)

  • Modified to detect print-to-file virtual printers from Adobe, Cute PDF and Foxit. Print-to-file virtual printers are not supported. CPfW has a built in print-to-file feature you can use in place of these virtual printers.
  • Fixed a problem with updating GCP printer registrations that caused the error ‘Invalid Parameter’ on service startup.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.2.0 (May 1, 2015)

  • Added three new features to the Pro Edition.
  • You can set a sound file to be played when a print job has been downloaded and printed to give an audio notification of print job completion.
  • You can now define a ‘Black List’ of user logins from whom print jobs will not be accepted.
  • You can now define ‘Quiet Times’, which are time periods during which jobs will not be printed.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.1.3 (Feb 24, 2015)

  • Modified Controller app to handle having its screens displayed on multiple monitors. Two monitors are supported. This mainly means that if you display Controller screens on a second monitor and then disconnect that second monitor, the screens will be returned to the primary monitor.
  • Modified the installer to add a rule to the Windows Firewall allowing outgoing connections on port 5222. This allows XMPP connections to Google Cloud Print for new print job notification. Not applicable to XP and 2003.
  • Added the ability to sound an audible alarm when a new print job is downloaded and submitted for local printing. Currently, this feature requires manual changes to the Registry. Contact support for details.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.1.2 (Feb 24, 2015)

  • Internal modifications to improve version tracking.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.1.1 (Dec 11, 2014)

  • Corrected a problem with registering HP PSC 2400 printers.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.1.0 (Oct 31, 2014)

  • Initial Support for Windows 10 and the next version of Windows Server, which we are calling 2015 until the actual name is announced.
  • Added Print-to-Disk Special Printer. This Special Printer allows you to create a local print destination where print jobs are saved on disk. This allows you receive print jobs from Google without having a physical printer. See the online help for more information.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.9 (Oct 15, 2014)

  • Discovered and fixed a bug in our multi-threaded handling of printers that could result in excessive overhead or exceptions when under a heavy load.
  • Modified the fix to our suspend/resume handling to correct a possible hang during shutdown after a resume from suspend.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.8 (Sep 23, 2014)

  • Modified the service to better handle suspend/resume of Windows and the effect that has on our persistent connection to Gtalk
  • Fixed incorrect number of pages printed that we send to GCP at the end of a print job. Copies not taken into account
  • Fixed bug in Special Email Printer. Location field was not defaulted to the PC system name
  • Fixed bug in archiving of printed jobs that could cause an exception

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.7 (Sep 17, 2014)

  • Fixed an internal problem in communicating with our licensing and error reporting server.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.6 (Aug 5, 2014)

  • A design problem in Google Cloud Print caused many users to see Storage Timeout errors when displaying the Submit Job screen. While this is a Google problem, CPfW has been modified to avoid triggering this error.
  • Users who employ a network proxy to access the internet experienced an exception on CPfW service start-up. This has been fixed.
  • Under some circumstances, users could experience an exception when closing the Submit Job screen. This has been fixed.
  • Discovered that some printers (Samsung models mostly) incorrectly register their paper sizes with Google Cloud Print. This then caused an exception in CPfW when submitting jobs to such printers. CPfW has been fixed to not fail, but some paper sizes on these printers will not be available if they were not registered correctly.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.5 (Aug 5, 2014)

  • Google has ended support for version 1 of the GCP protocol. Cloud Print for Windows now works only with version 2 of the GCP Protocol. Printers registered under v1 will be automatically converted to v2. This change should be completely transparent to users.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause an exception if you clicked Submit Print Job on the task tray icon context menu.
  • Added extensive new diagnostic information to our trace facility to help trouble shoot network connection problems experienced by some users.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.4 (Jun 11, 2014)

  • Fixed a problem registering Brother HL-2270DW printers with GCP

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.3 (May 29, 2014)

  • Fixed several significant bugs in reprinting archived downloaded print jobs.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.2 (May 24, 2014)

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.1 (May 17, 2014)

  • Fixed a bug in the saving of Settings. If Controller Auto Start on Windows login was disabled and saved, any subsequent settings save would fail.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 2.0.0 (May 17, 2014)

  • Major update adding new features and improvements. New features include:
  • New Settings screen to allow control of customization options previously only accessible by editing the registry.
  • Support for printing to the Microsoft Fax service.
  • New “special printers” which are local “printers” that are not physical devices. These are like virtual printers, acting as print destinations you can register with GCP but process downloaded print jobs in other ways than physical printing. The first special printer is Print to Email which emails print jobs downloaded from GCP as attachments.
  • Ability to display print job history for printers appearing on the Submit Print Job screen.
  • Ability to log print jobs and errors to disk files for external processing.
  • Ability to hold downloaded print jobs so they can be viewed before printing.
  • Ability to automatically delete the GCP job history records after a job is successfully printed.
  • Ability to archive downloaded and submitted jobs with viewing, reprinting and resubmission capability.
  • Improved support for using CPfW in remote sessions under Terminal Services or RDP.
  • Various improvements to reliability, performance and the user interface.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.34 (Apr 22, 2014)

  • Fixed to follow changes in GCP that caused multi-page documents to print only the first page
  • Fixed printer registration issue for OKI C330 printers

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.33 (Apr 4, 2014)

  • Fixed bug in 1.6.32 that caused errors receiving jobs for GCP v1 printers.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.32 (Apr 3, 2014)

  • Fixed a bug in printer registration that caused multi-page jobs printed from the Chrome print dialog (ctrl-p) to only print the first page. Jobs printed from the GCP print dialog were not affected.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.31 (Apr 1, 2014)

  • Fixed a bug that caused the service to fail when registering Dell 570 USB printer.
  • Fixed a bug in handling of custom (non-standard) form sizes.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.30 (Mar 15, 2014)

  • Fixed a bug that caused the LaserJet 1020 to fail to register with GCP
  • Fixed two bugs that resulted in occasional null object reference run time errors
  • Fixed bug in network proxy processing that caused a null object reference error if you do not have both the HTTP and HTTPS proxy URIs defined in Internet Settings

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.29 (Feb 5, 2014)

  • The HP OfficeJet 8600 printer does not respond to duplexing control sent by our virtual printer when the 8600 is registered with GCP directly through HP ePrint connector. Modified our code to work around this issue. Please contact tech support for more information if you have problems with HP 8600 duplexing.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.28 (Jan 28, 2014)

  • More fixes for specific printers with registration errors.
  • We overlooked the fact that CPfW has been registering the Microsoft Fax Printer and accepting and printing jobs for the fax printer. However the fax printer does not support printing from a service and such jobs were simply ignored. The Microsoft Fax printer is no longer registered with GCP. We plan to add support for the fax printer in the near future.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.27 (Jan 24, 2014)

  • Additional fixes for several printers whose drivers wander quite a ways from the XPS standard.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.26 (Jan 22, 2014)

  • More problems with printer driver variations not working with the GCP v2 API led to a redesign of our implementation of v2. This should correct the problem in a way that is not driver specific and should solve the v2 printer registration error (125) for most, if not all, printers.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.25 (Jan 18, 2014)

  • Fixed more issues with various printer drivers that cause printers to not register with GCP under the new v2 API (error 125). The v2 API is more susceptible to variations in how drivers are written.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.24 (Jan 17, 2014)

  • Fixed several bugs in the GCP v2 update that caused printers to fail to register with GCP (error 125).

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.23 (Jan 14, 2014)

  • Added support for IOS and Android mobile devices as print destinations if such devices are registered with Google Cloud Print. Printing to such a device will cause the job to be sent to the device as a PDF and displayed in the device’s PDF viewer. Mobile Chrome must be running on the device with synch enabled.
  • Major update to support the Google Cloud Print API version 2. Existing CPfW printer registrations with GCP will continue under version 1 but any new printers will be registered with the version 2 API. This allows printers registered by CPfW to support more printing feature selections when you print to those printers using the GCP management web page. Additional features include page ranges, scaling, 2/4 up printing and page borders.
  • Includes version 3.2 of the Cloud Print for Windows virtual printer driver. This updated driver allows you to select 2/4 up printing. Note that the target printer must recognize and support the 2/4 up printing control code for this to work.
  • The print job Submit screen’s list of printers registered and available to you in GCP, now shows the current number of jobs in the queue for each printer in the Status column.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.22 (Nov 20, 2013)

  • The forensic data collected by v1.6.21 lead to the resolution of the recent spate of authentication problems with Google Cloud Print. A bug was introduced in v1.6.20 that caused this issue. This bug caused repeated login failures with invalid authorization as the reason

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.21 (Nov 19, 2013)

  • Failure to authenticate with Google Cloud Print has been an ongoing problem with Cloud Print for Windows. This has proved difficult to troubleshoot. This release has been modified to collect additional forensic information when the authentication with GCP fails.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.20 (Nov 13, 2013)

  • Fixed a problem that caused attempts to share a printer to return the error ‘User not authorized’. This issue was caused by the changes the Google team made to the sharing API.
  • The Controller screen now displays the Google account you are connected to instead of the authorization code that allows access to that Google account. The authorization code is of no usefulness to you, but the account you are connected to is nice to know.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.19 (Nov 2, 2013)

  • Minor improvements in the handling of new print job notifications.
  • Several minor bug fixes and performance improvements.
  • Modified to handle the case where you delete a printer registered by CPfW from the GCP management web page. GCP sends a notification of the printer delete and CPfW now disables the printer in the local configuration so it will not be re-registered.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.18 (Oct 15, 2013)

  • There were some scenarios where CPfW might send requests to Google Cloud Print at a rate faster than Google allows under their per-user traffic limits resulting in error 503 ‘Server Unavailable’. CPfW has been modified to reduce the chance of this happening.
  • CPfW now supports printing to Federal Express on the Submit File to Google screen or from a virtual printer. When you print to FedEx, you will see a retrieval code in the job submission bubble on the task tray. You take that code to a FedEx Office location to print your document. The Submit File screen will also show the retrieval code of the last document printed to FedEx. You will also receive an email on the Google account your printer is registered to with the retrieval code.
  • The Google team has changed the printer sharing API. CPfW has been modified to support that new API. This version or later of CPfW will be required to share printers after October 31, 2013.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.17 (Oct 2, 2013)

  • Fixed a bug in 1.6.16 that caused CPfW to fail to start if any local Windows printer had an empty Location field in the printer properties.
  • Improved handling and reporting of problems connecting to Gtalk on TCP port 5222. Port 5222 must be open for outgoing TCP connections.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.16 (Oct 2, 2013)

  • When creating a virtual printer, if the Google virtual printer driver is installed on your system, you be offered the ability to create the Cloud Print for Windows virtual printer using the Google driver instead of the CPfW driver. The CPfW port monitor is still used and the mapping of the Windows virtual printer to a GCP print queue is the same, but the output of Windows applications is passed through the Google driver. The Google driver creates output in XPS format whereas the CPfW driver creates output in PDF format. Either format can be uploaded to GCP. There is usually no reason to select the Google driver over the CPfW driver except in the few cases where the CPfW PDF creator does not work correctly or if you are using VGA fonts, which are not supported in PDFs. A specific case where our PDF creation fails but using the Google driver works, is printing from Windows 8 ‘Windows Store’ applications via the Devices Charm. CPfW PDFs created in this scenario have incorrect fonts. Using the Google driver solves this problem.
  • Added support for submitting .xlsm files as if they were .xls which gets around conversion problems at GCP.
  • When a job is received from a different account, the account name is added the print job title in Windows. Some systems that examine the job title to do job accounting on Windows have problems extracting the account name when the job title from GCP is long. It is now possible to set a registry switch to move the account name to the front of the job title so get around this issue. If you need to do this, contact support for more information.
  • When CPfW registers a Windows printer with GCP, the GCP printer location information is created by putting the CPfW system name in parenthesis followed by the location text set for the printer in the printer properties. If you would like to have the system name dropped and just use the location text, start the location text with a - (dash) character.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.15 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • You can now submit .gdoc and .gsheet files from your local Google Drive folder using the Submit Print Job button. Note any such file must be shared in Google Drive at least at the level that anyone with the link can view the document.
  • Modified the installer to detect and fix the ‘Non-Canonical Access Control List’ errors some users encounter when installing or updating.
  • When a printer is enabled in the Controller but is not visible to the Service component because the service is running as local system, a warning will be displayed at startup of the service. The printer will still be disabled but you will have an indication of the cause.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.14 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • Fixed an additional problem case in recovery from loss of network connectivity. The interactions between GCP, Gtalk and the OAuth2 authentication service are quite complex and interdependent. Loss of connectivity really causes problems!
  • Fix bug that caused error messages returned from Google on printer sharing failures to not be displayed by the Controller screen.
  • Fixed print job Submit screen to correctly show when a printer has been shared with you by a Google group. Previously, the group’s owner was displayed.
  • Modified the Controller screen to show the correct license level in the screen title bar automatically instead of requiring a hide and restore of the screen to cause an update of the title bar.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.13 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • Fixed a problem with restarting the XMPP connection to Gtalk when the connection has failed due to loss of network connectivity.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.12 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • Added the option to enable/disable Controller auto start on Windows login to the Controller File menu.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.11 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • Fixed an additional problem occurring when a PC resumes from a long period of sleep/suspend. This problem could cause various errors all resulting from Cloud Print resuming operations before the network has been reconnected.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.10 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • In Windows 8.1 (Blue), Microsoft disabled the RC4 cipher used by the TLS secure communications protocol. TLS is used by our XMPP (Jabber) library to connect to the Google Talk service to receive new print job notifications. This caused Cloud Print for Windows to fail on start-up. Microsoft apparently feels there is some security exposure with RC4 but has offered no alternative. For the time being, Cloud Print for Windows will re-enable RC4 on Windows 8.1 to restore XMPP notifications.
  • Note: Jabber is the original name used for the XMPP messaging protocol. The name Jabber has been used in the Cloud Print for Windows code and documentation. This name is obsolete and we will begin replacing references to Jabber with the correct name, XMPP.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.9 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • Continuing to improve on the initial authentication with Google, Cloud Print now automatically starts the Service component when a new authentication code is obtained from Google. The authentication code has a limited lifetime and it appeared users were taking too long between getting the code and starting the Service, which actually does the login to Google process. Now the service is started immediately and the initial login is completed before the code expires.
  • Minor corrections to support multi-byte languages.
  • When installed on Windows 8.1 (Blue) preview, Microsoft no longer allows installers to pin programs to the Start Screen, so CPfW will not automatically appear on the Start Screen. Our program items are added to the “All Apps” part of the Start Screen as before, but you will have to manually pin the CPfW items you want on the Start Screen.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.8 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • Minor fixes and improvements to the error reports Cloud Print for Windows sends to our server.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.7 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • Due to the difficulty some users have had with the new process to authorize Cloud Print for Windows to access Google Cloud Print, this process has been redesigned. If needed, CPfW will now automatically start an automated authorization, presenting the Google web pages to login to your Google Account and then provide permission for CPfW to access Google services. No copy and paste is needed as the authorization code is automatically saved. Users who have already authorized with Google will not be affected though the appearance of the Controller screen will change. Authorization will now occur automatically on a new install.
  • Updated the printer sharing screen to show if public sharing has been enabled for a Google Cloud printer and show the daily page limit set for public sharing. The special web link for public printers is also displayed and copied to the clipboard. You must still go to the GCP management web page to enable/disable public sharing.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.6.6 (Sep 23, 2013)

  • Fixed the mysterious buffer overflow exception when printing with our virtual printer. This rare problem is a bug in the Microsoft .Net Framework, which we were finally able to identify and then work around.

  • On the print Job Submission screen, the printer lists Location column will show the flag to indicate printers that are not owned by you but have been shared with you by other Google users.
  • The Location column will also show the email address of HP ePrint printers.

  • Added status bar to the bottom of the Service Controller screen to improve user feedback.

New in Cloud Print for Windows 1.0.1 (Mar 2, 2012)

  • Fixed bug that caused some remote printers not to be handled correctly. Printers mapped with a \\server\printer path would cause the Cloud Print controller app to fail on start up. Additionally, the service would ignore such printers. These printers are now handled correctly.
