New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 23.5.1 (Mar 29, 2023)

  • As announced last weekend, here it is, Comic Collector version 23.5 for Windows, with full support for our new CLZ Scanner barcode scanner app!
  • And as indicated earlier, support for the old CLZ Barry scanner app has now been removed.
  • Also new in this version: Improved support for barcodes that were used over multiple series.
  • What is CLZ Scanner:
  • The aptly-named “CLZ Scanner” is a barcode scanner app, nothing more, nothing less. It is an app that you use on your phone to scan barcodes and then instantly send those scanned barcodes to the Add Comics screen of the Comic Collector software running on your computer. From there, you can then easily and comfortably add the scanned comics to your computer software. CLZ Scanner replaces the old CLZ Barry app.
  • Improved support for barcodes that were used over multiple series:
  • In the past, publishers tended to re-use barcodes, not only within a series, but also over multiple different series. We already supported that situation in the CLZ Comics mobile app and in the Comic Connect web-based software, but for technical reasons this was not added to the Windows version yet.
  • But now this IS being supported in Comic Collector too, giving you better results for barcodes from that era, like Action Comics, Vol. 1, Amazing Spider-man Vol. 1, Captain America, Vol. 1, Incredible Hulk, Vol. 1 etc…

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 23.4.1 (Mar 14, 2023)

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 23.2.1 (Nov 2, 2022)

  • Another update for your Comic Collector software, version 23.2, in which we introduce the “Re-Link Core Variant” feature, a new and easier way to link your local entries to a different variant in Core.
  • Relink Core variant:
  • For most comic issues, Core often has multiple variants listed, e.g. Direct and Newsstand Editions, or for modern comics many different cover variants by different cover artists and in different variations (trade dress, virgin, etc…).
  • Having your local entries linked to the correct is important for many reasons, like getting the correct data when using Update from Core, for getting the correct key information, for syncing with the CLZ Cloud. etc… And with the recent CovrPrice integration, being linked to correct variant has become essential for getting the correct value from CovrPrice.
  • Now, of course you could already “Unlink from Core”, then “Link with Core” again, but today’s new Re-Link Core Variant tool makes re-linking much easier. It lets you link your local entry to a different variant in Core, e.g. from Direct to Newsstand. Doing so will automatically update and overwrite all relevant information, like the Variant letter, the Variant Description, the cover image, barcode, cover date, etc…
  • You can find the Relink Core Variant command in the right click menu for a comic, or in the action menu of the comic details panel. In screen that pops up, just select the correct variant, then click the blue “Link to variant” button at the bottom right.

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 22.1.1 (Jan 12, 2022)

  • Distinction between Minor Keys and Major Keys:
  • In our Core online comic database, we are now making the distinction between Minor Keys and Major Keys.
  • Major Keys: all comics for which there is a general consensus that they are key. In other words, the ones virtually no one will dispute. For example: ASM300, NM98, Hulk 181, Amazing Fantasy 15, etc… you get the drift. The list of major keys is meant to be a pretty exclusive list.
  • Minor Keys: everything else. Since we are keeping major keys pretty exclusive, we will be very “inclusive” with minor keys, any first appearance, cameo appearance, 2nd appearance, death, iconic cover, etc.. Any interesting trivia that is worth mentioning about a comic, of course within certain limits (no 5th appearances of secondary characters).
  • For the Comic Collector, this means:
  • Two different icons, yellow for Major keys, blue for Minor keys
  • The current “Key Comic” Yes/No” field in the Edit screen, is now a “No / Minor / Major” picklist. Fully editable, so that you can change the “key level” if you don’t agree with Core.
  • When Updating Keys, you can now opt to download info for Minor+Major Keys OR for Major Keys only. Read on below for info about the new Update Key Info tool.
  • New “Key Category” field:
  • Also new in our Core key database (and your Comic Collector program): the Key Category field. This field indicates which type of key it is.
  • New “Update Key Info” tool:
  • Also new in this version, a special “Update Key Info” tool in the menu for updating your key comic info from Core. So no need to use Update from Core anymore (that is, not for keys).
  • The new tool is fully configurable. When you choose Update Key Info (either from the menu or from the Action menu on a selection), a new popup will appear with two settings -
  • Download Key Information: use this to select whether you want:
  • No Key Info at all; Tip: use this in combination with the Clear option to remove all key info from your program.
  • Major Keys only; Again, use this in combination with the Clear option to remove all Minor Key info from your program.
  • Minor & Major Keys; Get all information available for both major and minor keys (recommended).
  • Allow replace/clear:
  • No : only add key info to comics that do not have key info yet.
  • Replace: allow the replacing/overwriting of existing key info.
  • Replace and Clear: also allow the clearing of existing key info in your program.
  • Key icons now also show in Add Comics screen:
  • You asked, we deliver: the key icons are now also shown in any issue listings in the Add Comics screen.
  • New key-related charts in Statistics screen:
  • And finally, to complete this huge update, we added 2 nice new key-related charts to the Statistics screen.
  • A “Key comics” pie chart, showing the distribution between non-keys, minor keys and major keys in your collection.
  • A “Comic by key category” bar chart, showing the popularity in your app of each key category.

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.6.1 (Oct 8, 2021)

  • Improved Submit to Core system:
  • Core is our central online comic database, the database that is searched when you add comics by Series, by Issue or by Barcode in the Add Comics screen. In general, the quality of our Core database is quite high, with 2 content managers moderating the data and all additions.
  • But still, with over 750 thousand comics listed, some errors may occur. That is where our Submit to Core comes in, it lets you submit corrections to our Core entries, right from the app, so that you can help improving the Core.
  • The Submit to Core feature has already been available in our Comic Collector desktop software and our Comic Connect web-based for many years, but the online forms that were used were not compatible with small mobile device screens. So our lead web-developer Sven has been working on a complete rewrite of the Core submit forms, to make them mobile friendly.
  • Which means we can now finally introduce the Submit to Core feature in the CLZ Comics mobile app! On the comic details page, click the Action button and choose Submit to Core. Your mobile browser will open, showing you a form for “processing” your uploaded data into the Core data. When done, tap the big blue “Submit Changes” button at the bottom (don’t forget this step!!).
  • Important: the Submit to Core tool is a perfect way to submit your corrections for existing comic entries.

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.5.1 (Sep 28, 2021)

  • Fixed:
  • Add Screen: By Barcode: Right click to remove a barcode wasn’t working.

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.4.1 (Sep 15, 2021)

  • Version 21.4 is now available for your Comic Collector software, with a nice graphical update for your folder panel. The folder panel now show horizontal bars in the background behind the folder entries, representing the “relative size” of the folder, that is, relative to the biggest folder in your collection.
  • This creates a nice subtitle bar chart in the background, making it easier to spot your most popular Series, your favorite Publishers, etc…
  • So, of course this new feature is OPTIONAL (although enabled by default). You can switch it off using Tools > Options > Customization > “Show bar chart in folder panel”.
  • Fixes:
  • The menu item “CLZ Core > Submit item to CLZ Core” was not enabled when using Card View
  • Add Comics: Add comic via the right click menu could add an empty entry
  • Add Comics: Add to / Remove from Pull List wasn’t working correctly

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.3.2 (Aug 12, 2021)

  • Fixed:
  • Date fields didn’t always transfer correctly.

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.3.1 (Aug 9, 2021)

  • A nice new v21.3 update is available for Comic Collector now, in which we introduce a new super useful database management tool, called Transfer Field Data (new in the Tools menu).
  • In short, this tool lets you copy field values from one field to another, in batch, so for your entire database, or for a selection of comics.
  • Sometimes the question originates from a user’s new insights into how to use the program’s fields in the best way. E.g. some users start using a User Defined Field for Storage Box information, because they somehow missed that there is a special Storage Box field.
  • Also, lately we have seen the question occur more often from users planning to switch to Comic Connect. Since Connect does not have User Defined Fields, they want to move their UDF data to built-in fields, like Storage Box, Owner, Tags and Notes.
  • Sadly, we did not have a solution for this (other than lots of manual labor). But as of today, we will be able to answer the above question better
  • The new Transfer Field Data screen:
  • As you can see, it has a deceptively simple UI (just select the From and To fields). However, the internal workings are very complex, especially regarding the copying of field values between fields of different data types (e.g. how to go from a UDF checkbox field to the built in multi-value Tags field).
  • A preview at the bottom lets you preview the transfer action before Apply-ing it. Also, to be extra safe, the program makes an automatic pre-transfer backup in your Backup folder.
  • Hope you like the new tool. PS. Any feedback about it is very welcome!
  • Fixed:
  • Add Movies: More responsive checkboxes
  • Add Movies: Fixed click area for removing barcode from queue
  • The Sort button in the main screen would sometimes not open the Sort Settings screen
  • Alphabet bar now works better for special characters

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.0.4 (Mar 17, 2021)

  • Add Screen: Select Collection Status with the extra dropdown button

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.0.3 (Mar 4, 2021)

  • Instead of jumping on the next big feature update, we decided to take a couple of weeks to work on various small improvements and fixes. Here’s what’s new and fixed in today’s update:
  • New: Clear your CLZ Cloud right from the Sync screen:
  • No more need to login to the CLZ Cloud site and use “Clear Database” there. It is now possible to clear/reset your CLZ Cloud straight from the Sync screen, using the Clear CLZ Cloud button at the bottom.
  • BTW: please only use this when strictly necessary, in case of problems. Clearing the cloud and re-syncing all items is a heavy operation and causes seriously load on our servers. Thank you!
  • New: Find Duplicates results can now be exported to a TEXT file:
  • By popular demand: you can now export the results of the Find Duplicates screen, either to take with you as a text file, or for printing.
  • New: Use the Statistics screen on a selection:
  • Something that “got lost” when we replaced the old Database Totals screen with the fancy new Statistics screen: being able to see totals for the selected items in the main screen. So… now that feature is back! Just select items in the main screen, using the checkboxes or Select All, then open Tools / Statistics to see totals and charts for just those items.
  • New: Filter area in status bar now highlights when a filter is active:
  • A common question in support: “Why don’t I see all my items anymore”. Always turns out that a filter is active, either in the Quick Filter Panel, the Alphabet Bar or the search box. To make this clearer, the Filter area in the status bar at the bottom now highlights in yellow when a filter is active.
  • Improved right-mouse click context menus, with sub-headers:
  • Through the years, new commands kept being added to the right click context menus, and to be honest, they became a bit messy. So about time we cleaned them up. All main screen context menu’s have now been cleaned up, re-ordered and re-grouped with nice sub-headers.
  • Fixed:
  • Update from Core on multiple albums was not working
  • Add from Core: in some situations album covers were not downloading
  • Import XML: several fixes to importing of credits, musicians and purchase prices
  • Printing, when printing track lists, the Box Set field did not work
  • Card View: mouse wheel scrolling was broken
  • After Select All in list, some action bar button did not show up
  • After editing, the list did not scroll to the edited item anymore
  • Statistics: rare Access Violation while loading the screen
  • Picklist item images are now automatically resolved when folder changes
  • Update File Links: manual mode missing trailing slash by default

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.0.2 (Dec 7, 2020)

  • Fixes:
  • In Missing Comics and Update Values screens, the series Sort Names were not used for sorting.
  • Several Access Violations

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 21.0.1 (Dec 3, 2020)

  • New Add Issue tab in Add Comics screen:
  • In the Add Comics screen, when searching for a comic “By Series Title”, you are sometimes getting so many series results, that it can be hard to find the exact comic you have in your hands. You may find yourself expanding series after series, to find the issue you need.
  • But not anymore, as today’s update will make this a lot easier: Just use the new “Add Issue” tab in the Add Comics screen to search by Series title AND Issue number in one go. E.g. search for “iron man 17” and it will instantly show you a simple flat list of all issues 17 of matching Iron Man series.
  • Note that the list of matches will automatically be a lot shorter, because the results will only include the series that actually have the issue number you are looking. For example, search for “action comics 214” and it will instantly give you the exact comic you are looking for.
  • Update Values report:
  • Since we introduced the Update Values from GoCollect feature, one of the most common questions we received at customer support has been:
  • After I update the values for my comics, is there any way I can see which comics have been updated?
  • So, after one year of having to say “sorry, no that is not possible”, we figured, let’s make it possible.
  • And of course, we went way beyond just showing which comics have been updated. As of today, after you run Update Values, you will get a nice “Updated Values” report, showing you:
  • which comics have been updated
  • their previous values and the new values
  • the value change, in green when increased, in red when decreased
  • links to GoCollect to see further historic values
  • total value changes for the updated comics and for your entire collection
  • Missing Comics screen:
  • Another common request that we have been hearing from many years:
  • Is there any way I can find which comics I am MISSING for my series
  • Definitely not an easy feature to implement, because the first question immediately is “what about variants?”. If you own issue 13A, do you regard issue 13B, 13C and 13D as missing or not?
  • So our UI/US designed AJ and I (Alwin) sat down to design a flexible “Missing Comics” screen that gives you full flexibility to conjure up the missing comics list you are looking for.
  • Based on our ideas, web-developer Sven created a super-fast search engine on our servers, that can instantly return issue number lists for any series. Still not sure how he made it this fast, but you’ll definitely love the speed of this too.
  • Then finally, Windows developer Joe created the new Missing Comics tool that you can now find in the Tools menu of version 21. Alternatively, open it from the “Find missing comics” link next to you Have list in the details area.
  • Use the checkboxes and sort toggle at the top to:
  • Show or Hide missing variants.
  • Switch between a compact list and a verbose list. (the compact view lists missing comics in “ranges”.)
  • Show or Hide series that are completed already.
  • Order the missing issue lists in Ascending or Descending order.
  • IMPORTANT: the Missing Comics tool is a new online service that always requires an ACTIVE Comic Collector subscription.
  • Improved Pre-fill screen (previously called Quick-Fill):
  • The Quick-Fill screen is a time-saving tool that lets you set some fields immediately when adding new comics. In today’s update, we changed the screen to a 2-column layout and have added several fields to the screen (Grading Company, Slabbed vs Raw, Tags, plus the ability to “Auto-fill Purchase Price with Cover Price”.
  • Also, we have renamed the screen to “Pre-fill Comic Details” to make the purpose a bit clearer.
  • Completed Series folders are now hilited in blue:
  • In the Edit Series screen, you can mark a series a “Completed”. Previously this only change the icon of the series in the folder panel, but with version 21, the program now also hi-lites the folder name in bold and blue

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 20.6.2 (Aug 25, 2020)

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 20.6.1 (Aug 25, 2020)

  • Fixed:
  • Add Comic: If you add a comic that’s already on wish list, and you move it to wish list, the program now updates that entry with the information from the Quick Fill pop up.
  • Quick Fill popup: now remembers which date you used last for “purchase date” (unless you’re using “set today as purchase date” in Field Defaults).
  • User Defined Yes/No fields are now available as options for the folder panel.
  • Edit Multiple: Updating date fields wasn’t always working correctly if you only filled in a year.

  • If no rating has been set for a movie, it would show in a “0” folder, and now shows in a “[None]” folder in your folder panel.

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 20.4.2 (Jun 26, 2020)

  • Fixed:
  • In some case, new entries added through Add from Core would get images with .tmp extensions, instead of .jpg.
  • Editing pick list items directly from the folder panel did not work anymore.
  • Dragging items between folders did not work anymore.

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 20.4.1 (Jun 25, 2020)

  • As indicated in our GDPR email from a couple of weeks ago, we are updating our software and services, to be more secure and to better protect your privacy.

  • for logging in with your username and password
  • for syncing your data with CLZ Cloud
  • for sending your searches to Core.
  • To make this possible, we have created new secure “entry points” on our servers, that are only allowing secure HTTPS connections. The new Comic Collector software only communicates with those secure entry points.

New in Collectorz.com Comic Collector 18.1.1 (May 23, 2018)

  • With super hi-res 4K (or even 5K) screens becoming quite common, more and more people are running Windows with the Font Size (DPI scaling) set to 125% or 150%, to keep text readable. So earlier this year, we released maintenance builds for all Windows editions to fix various layout problems when running Windows with “large fonts”.
  • Today, with version 18.1 we’re taking the next step: Comic Collector is now fully “DPI Aware”. Starting with this version, if you have increased your font size in Windows, all screen texts will look sharper, less fuzzy, making full use of your hi-res screen.

  • The free CLZ Cloud service is at the center of all our cataloging solutions (desktop, mobile and web), the glue that binds them all together. Tens of thousands of users are using the CLZ Cloud syncing every day, to transfer data between their desktop, Connect and mobile software, to update their online collection list, or simply for keeping an online backup of their precious database.
  • Now, it is time to take the CLZ Cloud to the next level, with automatic syncing:

  • The ability to select your own Columns for the List View is an important customization feature of our Comic Collector software. The same holds for selecting the sort order and the folder fields for the folder panel.
