Disk Sizes Changelog

What's new in Disk Sizes 2.0

Mar 2, 2017
  • Changed the drive type of a built-in hard disk from "Fixed" to "Internal"; Made the main window vertically resizable.

New in Disk Sizes 1.9 (Jan 20, 2016)

  • The size definition for measuring folder disk-use is fixed at 1024. This works better since cluster sizes are based on this value.
  • Measuring folder disk-use now allows for including or excluding files with hidden and/or system attributes. Previously, these files were always included.
  • Changed "Show Tip of the Day" to "Show Program Notes" on the System Menu (click on DiskSizes' icon or press Alt-Spacebar). Added a search feature to the "Choose a Topic" window.
  • Changed various visual aspects of this program, such as the background color for read-only text fields and clearing the cluster-size message when the reference selection changes.

New in Disk Sizes 1.8 (Feb 23, 2013)

  • Added columns to the drive list in the main window for drive type and percent free.
  • When a drive does not contain a disk, the message "No disk in drive." is displayed, one word at a time, in columns three through six.
  • You can now sort on any column by clicking on the corresponding column button. The Totals row will stay at the end of list. The first click on a column button sorts the correspond column in increasing order. The second click on the same column button without clicking on any other column button sorts that column in decreasing order. This pattern alternates for subsequent clicks.
  • You can now change the size definition for hard-disk and file sizes from the main window.
  • You can now drag and drop a folder path or shortcut to the folder text-field of the Folder Disk-Use window, which is displayed by pressing the Measure button that is in the main window.
  • The "Choose a Topic" window for selecting a "Tip of the Day" by topic-name now allows for sorting by name or number.
  • Added the measure time to the Folder Disk-Use Table window.

New in Disk Sizes 1.7 (Mar 8, 2012)

  • Added a Used Space column to the Drive Information display.
  • Added a totals row. This row shows the totals of used space, free space and total space for all of the listed disks or drives, or only for the selected ones when any are selected. To support this feature, it is no longer possible to sort by clicking on a column button.
  • Added displaying the current size definition on the main screen. You can change this setting by pressing Ctrl+D, selecting the other value in the drop-down list and pressing the OK button.
  • Added an option to include RAM disks in the Drive Information display. Note that DiskSizes has not been tested with network drives or RAM disks.
  • Moved the check boxes to above the Drive Information display. This way, you may select the disk or drive types before looking at this display.
  • Changed a menu item from "Tip of the Day" to "Show Tip of the Day".
  • Switched to a newer install program since some people were having problems with the old one. Since that program is not designed to create installation programs that run on Windows 95, the minimum system requirements for DiskSizes now includes Windows 98. However, DiskSizes.exe is included in the DiskSizes1.7.zip and should work on Windows 95

New in Disk Sizes 1.6 (May 23, 2011)

  • Changed the CD-ROM option label to read "Include CD/DVD drives" since this option is not limited to CDs or read-only drives.
  • Added support for terabyte (TB) disk drives.
  • Hard-disk and file sizes can now be based on powers of 1000 or 1024. This affects the definitions of KB, MB, GB, and TB. When 1000 is selected, a GB is a billion bytes and a TB is a trillion bytes. (K is kilo, M is mega, G is giga and T is tera). Cluster sizes are always based on powers of 1024.
  • Added an option to save the column widths of the drive list on the main screen. This setting is initially on. It may be turned off from the System Menu (click on DiskSizes' icon or press Alt-Spacebar).
  • Added an option to save the position of the main window. This setting is initially on. It may be turned off from the System Menu (click on DiskSizes' icon or press Alt-Spacebar).
  • The Measures Folder Disk Use dialog-box now displays the cluster size of a selected reference drive.
  • Pressing the Browse button on the Measures Folder Disk Use dialog-box will display a resizable window that includes folder-management features when DiskSizes runs on Windows 2000 or Windows Millennium Edition (Windows Me) or later.
  • Added a text-file export feature to the Displays Folder Disk Use Table dialog-box.
  • Read-only text boxes now have a white background when there aren't any editable text boxes in the same window and a light background when there is an editable text box in the same window. This change makes the text in read-only text boxes easier to read.

New in Disk Sizes 1.5 (Dec 30, 2009)

  • Added support for the following reference sizes: 512 B, 2 KB, 4 KB, 8 KB, 16 KB, 32 KB and all of these. Now you can measure folder disk use for a variety of cluster sizes, including those that do not apply to the drives in or attached to your computer.
  • Reduced the time needed for measuring folder disk use.
  • Changed the wait cursor to the interruptible-task cursor in the Measures Folder Disk Use dialog box. This cursor or mouse pointer signals that the measuring task may be interrupted.
  • The hand cursor now displays properly for Windows Vista and later when the mouse pointer is over my web address in the About DiskSizes dialog box.
