New in Find It EZ 19.1.10 (Sep 18, 2019)

  • This is a major update and we suggest all users upgrade to the latest version
  • NOTE: Find it EZ is now a 64-bit application. Some connectors may need to be re-downloaded.
  • NOTE: On upgrade your index will be cleared.
  • DATABASES:
  • The connector for DB2 is now included with Find it EZ. A seperate install is no longer required.
  • Microsoft Access scanning has been added to the local file system and source control repositories. Now search whole folders of databases files in a single pass. This is limited to passwordless databases and table schema and queries only. For advanced filtering, password protected files or data use the existing MS Access Database repository.
  • PERFORMANCE:
  • Find it EZ is now a native 64-bit application. This means we have more system resources to work with and can better handle large files and spreadsheets.
  • By moving to 64-bit new connectors will be required for Microsoft Access and Crystal Reports. These can be downloaded from within the application or our website.
  • New "CPU Threads" user option. Previously Find it EZ used a static number of threads during indexing and searching. Depending on your system this could cause it to be overwhelmed and become unresponsive. The number is now dynamic and based on the number of processors your system has.
  • The default is now the number of "cores" your system has. You can change this value in the user options from 1 to the # of Logical processors (sometimes called Threads) your system has. This gives users full control over their experience.
  • This may mean a slight decrease in performance for some users, but overall it is a far better user experience.
  • "Run in reduced performance" mode has been replaced with the above "CPU Threads" setting. A setting of 1 has the same effect as the old "Run in reduced performance" mode.
  • New "Index Memory Cache Size". This is a new index read cache setting that lets you tune how much of the index can be cached in memory. The higher the value the less disk access is needed on subsequent searches. The default is 512 MB which should suffice for most users but can be increased in the user settings.
  • The Code view has been replaced with faster more efficient version. Large text files are now displayed in ~1/4 the time.
  • Backed end changes have increased the index read/write performance by ~50% in some cases.
  • PROJECT SETTING BACKUP:
  • Project settings are now automatically backed up to a folder on your system when you exit Find it EZ You can restore your settings, such as after an application reset, from Projects -> Import/Export Settings.
  • RESULT VIEWERS:
  • The Code viewer now supports Syntax highlighting when possible. For example comments are a different color than keywords and strings. These will be expanded and refined over time.
  • The Code viewer now supports word wrapping. This can be toggled on or off from the panel above (icon beside Find)
  • Database and Excel viewers now support selection and clipboard operations. Copy data right from the result window into your email/excel/database/queries.
  • APPLICATION / UI:
  • Added new caching system for better performance
