Ghost Browser Changelog

What's new in Ghost Browser 2.1.1.7

Dec 30, 2019
  • First, we've re-worked how we switch your browser from one Workspace to another to create a faster and smoother switching experience. You will now be - and feel - even more productive when switching from one Workspace to another.
  • The second major change is that starting with this version, we now have both a 32-bit and a 64-bit version available for Windows users. If you are currently on 32-bit and would like to switch, simply uninstall Ghost Browser, then re-install the 64-bit version from our download page. By default, you can uninstall the browser without losing your Workspaces, Session or Identity data. There is an option to remove this user data during the uninstall process, but as long as you leave it unchecked, you will be ok.
  • Version 2.1.1.7 also includes a new option to open a link into an Identity. You can do this by right clicking any link. This feature has always existed for Sessions but we now have it for Identities as well.

New in Ghost Browser 2.1.0.6 (Apr 15, 2019)

  • Ghost Proxy Control fix for proxy services that vary IPs based on username
  • variations.
  • Fix for 403 errors on Twitter registration.

New in Ghost Browser 2.0.2.0 (May 14, 2018)

  • New Privacy Features:
  • In this release we have implemented 4 key anti-tracking mechanisms that you can toggle on or off. They are located in your browser settings under the privacy tab. (Menu–>Settings–>Advanced–>Privacy). You can always go to your settings and do a search on the setting name too.
  • Some of the settings turn off features that you may want turned on sometimes so be sure to review the privacy setting descriptions on our blog before changing any of these settings.
  • The new settings allow you to:
  • Spoof scaling of fonts to prevent font fingerprinting.
  • Fully prevent WebRTC leaks – not just IP address but also hiding your media device IDs.
  • Disable WebGL to prevent fingerprinting of your device.
  • Prevent HTML5 Canvas Fingerprinting by injecting noise into attempts to track you through this method.
  • Existing Features with Improved Privacy Protections:
  • We also launched Identities today. Identities are a new take on Sessions and are the answer for anyone wondering how to create isolated browser personas with confidence. They are a productivity feature that we’ve covered in a different post, but they also have privacy implications that are worth mentioning here.
  • Identities are like Sessions – they isolate your cookie jars in color-coded tabs and allow you to assign a different IP address to each set of colored tabs. But unlike Sessions, Identities have permanent cookie jars and settings so that even if you close all the tabs within an Identity, the cookies and proxy connection preferences you set for that Identity in Ghost Proxy Control will persist.
  • So any time you open a tab into an identity, you can be confident that the cookies that were there before are still there and you’ll connect through the same IP address.
  • This means you wont cross browsing sessions or accidentally access a site from the same account on two IP addresses or two accounts on the same IP address.

New in Ghost Browser 1.1.0.6 (Sep 27, 2017)

  • We’re releasing version 1.1.0.6 today and we’ve added made a few notable additions that we think you’ll like.
  • Disabling WebRTC:
  • The first one relates to the prevention of leaks of your real IP address when using proxies. Chromium and other browsers use a technology called WebRTC that enables some really cool video chat, screensharing, voice calls and other cool applications. Unfortunately it also has the ability to reveal your real IP address, even if you are using a proxy or VPN. This IP leak can only be prevented by disabling WebRTC.
  • Previously in Ghost, you could disable WebRTC by opening Ghost with a special command or shortcut. If you have been doing that to this point, please note, these methods will NO LONGER work. The good news is, you can now just go to Settings–>Advanced–>Privacy and check the box to disable WebRTC.
  • Please note that disabling WebRTC could mean that certain apps that use it will stop working. If you are experiencing trouble with any chat, voice, screensharing or video apps when WebRTC is disabled you might need to re-enable it to use that app.
  • Improved Context Menus:
  • We’ve also made some improvements (over the course of the last two releases) to the context menus you see when you right-click on a tab or a web page in Ghost Browser. We want to point out two of them that will be most useful to you.
  • First, we’ve added a “Refresh all in this Session” option. This allows you to refresh a set of tabs in one Session without refreshing all of the other tabs.
  • Second, we’ve added a command to clear your cookies and local storage from just one Session as well. This is great for those times when you need to clear cookies in some tabs, but don’t want to be logged out of EVERYTHING that you are working on.
  • Both of these options were previously available under the Ghost Menu. They are still there, however, they are also now available with fewer clicks directly in the page and tab context menus – just a right-click away.
  • Pre-Installed Ghost Proxy Control for Instant Trial:
  • We’re also pre-installing the Ghost Proxy Control extension in the browser now. If you are currently on a trial it will automatically work for you with no download necessary. If you don’t use it, you can right-click the extension icon to hide it. If your Ghost Browser Premium trial is over but you’d like to continue using Ghost Proxy Control, you can do so by getting a license key here.
  • Pre-installing the extension removes some of the friction of finding the download and getting set up during the trial period. It goes nicely with the automatic trial feature we launched last month for all new browser downloads.

New in Ghost Browser 1.1.0.5 (Sep 27, 2017)

  • In prior versions of Ghost Browser all of the commands for managing sessions were in the context menu of the tab. To use the Session management features, you needed to move your cursor all the way to the top of the browser. With the size of today’s monitors, that’s a long way to go! So now we’ve moved them.
  • Session Manager in Page Context Menu:
  • The first place is in the page context menu. To see the commands just right click any webpage. You don’t have to bring your cursor all went to the top of the browser. Anywhere on the page will do.
  • Session Management in Link Context Menu:
  • One of my favorite moves in a browser is right clicking a link to open it in a new tab. It allows me to quickly open many links from one single page. While it does lead to tab bloat, I’ll probably never stop doing this.
  • So we assumed, probably correctly, might also want to do this. We also assumed that you would want access to the special Session control features when you do.
  • So now when you right click any link you’ll see the same functions that you get when you normally right click a tab.
  • Main Menu Improvements:
  • We’ve also made some improvements to the main browser menu. In addition to adding basic session management links to the main menu, we’ve also pulled out some hidden tools from the depths of the browser and put them in the main menu.
  • As you can see in the image there is now an option to import a chrome extensions sync your data to another computer and view our support and premium license pages all with one click.
  • We hope this will help make your use of Ghost Browser even more productive than it was before.

New in Ghost Browser 1.0.3.8 Dev (Feb 10, 2017)

  • We’ll be releasing a new version of Ghost Browser in the next few days. With this next release, we’ll be disabling Incognito mode and Profiles.
  • By design, Ghost Browser eliminates the need for you to use either Incognito or Profiles as Ghost Browser’s Sessions and Projects replace these antiquated functions.
  • We wanted to give you a heads-up because once your browser updates in the next few days, you’ll lose any data associated with alternate profiles. Please take a moment to prepare by saving anything associated with alternate profiles as a Project in your primary profile, or upgrade to a very affordable Premium license.
  • To provide you with some additional clarity about this choice, it’s important to note that maintaining both Incognito mode and Profiles is resource-heavy on our team. We believe it’s more important to dedicate our resources toward further innovation on the features that make Ghost Browser unique, and the features that you, our users are requesting in order to make your jobs and your lives easier.
  • We’ve worked hard to make a free, fully-featured version of Ghost Browser available to everyone, and in order for us to be able to keep innovating, we need to focus on moving forward instead of looking backward with features we don’t feel are part of the future of browsing functionality.
  • We know it can be hard to let go of things you’ve gotten used to, which is why we’ve made the choice to allow Premium subscribers to continue to use both Incognito mode and Profiles for the time being. We realize this may be an unpopular choice, however the Premium users are supporting the Ghost Browser project in a way that lets us keep innovating and makes it possible for the freemium users to keep using the browser for free.
  • If you would like to keep Incognito mode and Profiles without losing any of your current data, we recommend upgrading to Premium before the update. The update is planned to take place in the next few days so we recommend upgrading as soon as possible to avoid data loss.

New in Ghost Browser 1.0.3.7 (Feb 10, 2017)

  • You asked for it, you got it! With the release of Version 1.0.3.7 comes keyboard shortcuts.
  • We built a custom keyboard shortcuts functionality that allows you to customize a set of commands unique to Ghost Browser functions and your installed extensions in order to speed up your work and boost productivity.
  • Now you can do things like open a new Session, switch Projects, activate your favorite extension and more, all with your keyboard instead of having to use your mouse.
