  • The Handy Start Menu programs database has been updated.

New in Handy Start Menu 1.93 (Mar 25, 2014)

  • The search for the installed applications updates function now works faster (significantly faster on some systems).
  • When pressing the "View the program update" button for one of the applications for which the update was found, the new version information page is opened right away now, without the intermediate page. For applications with the verified update only.

  • Double click on the Start button now can be used to open the Start screen under Windows 8.0 and 8.1.
  • The name of the menu item in the menu available by using the arrow on the "Shut down" button has changed from "Switch user" to "Switch user / Lock" (under Windows 8 or higher).

  • Fixed bug: Sometimes the check for installed software updates function failed to open a website with information about the updated program. This was happening with certain browsers if the name of a program or the name of the program's author contained non-English symbols.

  • The installed program updates check function allows you to perform the search for updates of all installed programs and show a list of the available new versions. To use this feature, click on the Start button and then select All Programs -> Find updates for all your software.

  • Windows 8 Release Preview support. Only the Handy Start Menu functionality is available so far, without the standard Start Menu functions (because it does not exist in Windows 8 Release Preview). In future versions we plan to add the standard Start Menu functionality to Handy Start Menu when working under Windows 8.

  • Now using Handy Start Menu you can easily uninstall programs you don't need anymore, even those that "forgot" to add an uninstall shortcut to the Start menu. To do this, simply click the red cross that appears when you move the cursor over a menu item.
  • You can temporarily hide the Start menu items without removing them physically.
  • The ability to import and export categories has been added. With this function you can move your categories and the order they are sorted out to another computer.
  • Windows XP: A scrollbar is displayed in the menu if it contains many items.
  • A main shortcut isn't assigned to the Startup Start menu folder, because it assembles shortcuts from various applications.
  • Fixed bugs:
  • In some cases changing a category in Handy Start Menu didn't persist after reboot.
  • Visual glitches in the menu.
  • If the program has been working for a while without reboot, menu items marked as new remained new even after a long while.

  • Starting with this version you can switch from the free version to the Pro paid version to evaluate its capabilities (and vice versa).
  • Added the ability to change the font size of the Start menu (Pro-version).
  • The Settings window now includes the option to disable any Internet activity: checking for updates, sending and receiving data to/from the server (Pro version).
  • Under Windows XP when clicking Start -> All Programs, the additional commands to configure Handy Start Menu are now shown along with categories. (This feature was previously available in Windows Vista or above only.)
  • The category "Games and Fun" was renamed to "Games".
