  • SSL Connection Capability for PostgreSQL and MySQL:
  • In the latest version of the software, we have added the ability to establish SSL connections to PostgreSQL and MySQL servers. Within the new "SSL" tab, users can select their preferred SSL connection mode, define the path to the root certificate, and specify the path to both the client certificate and its key. This feature enables users to effortlessly configure SSL parameters necessary for secure data exchange between the Handy Backup application and the corresponding database servers.
  • Library Update for PostgreSQL 16:
  • In the latest version, support for PostgreSQL 16 databases has been added. According to information provided by PostgreSQL developers, the new version of the DBMS incorporates advanced SQL/JSON syntax, enhanced statistics monitoring, and expanded access control mechanisms. Handy Backup 8.5.3 allows for efficient and accurate backup of PostgreSQL databases.

  • Dear users! In version 8.4.8, we have introduced the feature to view workstation logs during task creation. The log information will now be directly accessible within the program’s interface. We also improved stability of the program when working with the network plugin.

New in Handy Backup 8.4.7.12 (Jun 21, 2023)

  • For your convenience, we optimized the application’s performance and resolved issues of the previous version.
  • In particular, we improved the Handy Backup Disaster Recovery tool, since now you can find an instruction on how to create a WinPE bootable disk by just clicking an icon on your application’s toolbar.
  • We also optimized the VMWare backup process by fixing execution log errors when using this plugin. Previously, there were issues with machine names, which were displayed in wrong encoding.
  • As for FTP backup, we improved the FTP/SFTP/FTPS encryption libraries. Basically, we fixed the FTP plugins, however, the library update indirectly affected all modules that these libraries used (including server’s and client’s activities and interactions). We also fixed data transfer errors between FTP plugin and FTP server. In previous versions of the application some clients had an issue connecting to the SFTP plugin due to the client-server configuration (because corresponding FTP servers did not support older versions of encryption libraries).
  • And finally, we improved the mechanism of re-registration of the application. Now after the re-registration process, application restart is not required.

New in Handy Backup 8.4.6.18 (May 15, 2023)

  • The new version of Handy Backup has updated the Handy Backup Disaster Recovery (HBDR) tool for Windows PE.
  • Now you can create backups of hard drives and partitions regardless of the OS and use a bootable flash drive with HBDR to quickly restore data in case of a computer failure.
  • VMWare plugin fixed. The list of machines is displayed correctly when creating a backup task. The process of backing up VMWare virtual machines with a hard disk, which is divided into several files, has been improved.
  • Fixed displaying the time of the last launch of Handy Backup when changing time zones. Also added additional logging of file names in case of errors in the operation of the Computer plugin.
  • Encoding of the first window in the Handy Backup installer updated. As a result, when installing the backup program, users see the window with the welcome of the Handy Backup installation wizard correctly.

New in Handy Backup 8.4.5.15 (Mar 14, 2023)

  • The new version of Handy Backup has a plugin for VK Cloud backup. The plugin allows faster and more efficient automatic cloud backup on the platform of one of the largest digital services.
  • Previously, when working with MySQL, S3 Cloud and MariaDB plugins, if the user entered incorrect credentials in the error dialog notifications, there was no text and empty messages were displayed. Now the messages contain information about the failure.
  • Handy Backup specialists corrected the mechanism for encoding errors in the program logs when performing a backup using the Disk Image plugin. In the previous version of the program the logs contained unreadable characters.
  • Now with Handy Backup 8.4.5. you can restore data that was encrypted with AES-128 or AES-256 during backup if there is no file with encryption algorithm configuration information - password and encryption type.
  • The Centralized Deploy Tool now correctly displays logs in English.

New in Handy Backup 8.4.4.14 (Jan 25, 2023)

  • The new version adds support for the PostgreSQL 15 database. According to the developers, PostgreSQL 15 updates are based on improving performance and managing workloads, such as updating data sorting algorithms. Handy Backup 8.4.4. allows efficient and correct backup of the PostgreSQL database.
  • Additional error logging has been added to the centralized workstation installation system. The stability of Handy Backup is also ensured if it is impossible to write log files or settings..
  • When working on Windows 7 and earlier versions, e-mail notifications began to be sent correctly. Now users can configure remote receipt of alerts and reports on the backup, recovery and synchronization process, and, accordingly, learn about problems and troubleshoot problems in time. Note that the ability to use Unicode email addresses is disabled on these versions.
  • The function of displaying the completion time of backup tasks and scheduled tasks, after changing the system time, changing the time zone, and switching to winter or summer time has been adjusted.

  • The automatic installation of workstations in a corporate network has been considerably updated. The workflow has been optimized and the user interface elements of Handy Backup have been updated.   • Improved server version stabilisation:
  • Some users noticed that deleting old logs, when the file limit was exceeded, affected the stability of the program. We improved the server version — now Handy Backup work is stable and optimized.
  • Updated algorithms of data recovery to a new directory:
  • In the new version when recovering data to a new directory the name of the backup source folder is no longer added. This change makes the program easier to use and makes the restore process faster and easier.

  • The Enhanced Memory Engine:
  • Handy Backup 8.3.1 introduces a new version of the WebDAV Backup plug-in. It works just by the same way as earlier versions, requiring no updates for existing tasks and workflow procedures. Still, it has many great internal differences, making the new version of WebDAV plug-in even more stable and flexible than earlier versions, for connecting most clouds supporting WebDAV.
  • Enhanced Backup Storage Algorithms:
  • Compared with earlier versions, Handy Backup 8.3.1 has some enhanced procedures for backup storage optimization. The main improvement is the procedure of selecting and deleting obsolete backup file copies. The new version makes it more quickly and efficiently than before, allowing eliminating these backup copies that the program marks as too old by date or by version.
  • Updated GUI Localizations:
  • The version 8.3.1 contains some localization updates for the graphical user interface (GUI) in both Czech and German. Due to these updates, the interface looks a bit more accurately and allows more clear definitions of some more complex program options for users that prefer these languages as default.

  • The version 8.3 data backup solution uses a new memory allocation engine. Due to new functions and algorithms, this engine is leak-proof, regardless of data size processed by the program. The problem of memory leaking is typical for many Windows apps, but Handy Backup is free from it now!
  • Setting Up a Temporary Folder for Workstations:
  • Previous versions of Handy Backup allow changing location of a temporary folder through modifying an XML configuration file for each workstation. For version 8.3, you can select a path to a temporary folder directly via the program interface (main control panel), instead of modifying a config file!

  • The Renewed Installer:
  • Handy Backup 8.2.4 contains an updated installation program. It looks more modern, works faster and contains lesser distractions than previous versions of our files and folders backup tool. It can be very useful for serial installation, such as when administering a big amount of computers, but also it adds to convenience of every individual user.
  • Enhanced Usability:
  • The version 8.2.4 has some updates in the user interface (GUI) to eliminate obsolete controls, simplify the overall usability and make an interface of our data backup solution looking more modern.   • The new version of Handy Backup allows connecting to NAS units secured by passwords directly. Starting from this version, the Server Network solution also allows installation of Network Agents to remote computers directly from the program.
  • Connecting to Protected NAS:
  • The Handy Backup 8.1 allows mounting a NAS unit protected by password directly from the program. After finishing the program, the drive will be unmounted automatically. This option increases speed and convenience of online backup, as well as allows avoiding security problems from manual access to password-protected NAS units.
  • Centralized Installation of Network Agents:
  • The new version allows not only configuring but also installing Network Agents directly from Handy Backup. This option is available for the Server Network solution, and it can simplify and speed up any job of a system administrator by expanding network backup infrastructure, especially for complex and heterogeneous networks.

  • Interface Enhancements:
  • Handy Backup 8.0.6 always shows a main window after manual restart, regardless of circumstances of previous starts (such as execution as privileged process, using it as Windows service or batch run). It allows always accessing to all interface components after a manual or forced restart. In addition, the new version provides localizations for short log messages in most common languages for a GUI.
  • Using the Prohibited “#” Character in FTP Data Names:
  • The new version of Handy Backup allows freely using the prohibited “#” character for FTP-related data. This option allows avoiding name-related errors during copying to or from FTP storage. It is no sort of “screening” or replacing such names; instead, this character now is completely “legal” for FTP connections used by Handy Backup!

New in Handy Backup 8.0.5.22 (Aug 21, 2019)

  • Optimizing Memory Usage:
  • In Handy Backup 8.0.5, the workstation process fixes some memory leaks linked to bulky data types, allowing much more efficient and flexible memory control. This advantage speeds up not only backup and recovery but an entire system with Handy Backup workstation running as a process.
  • It also provides some additional data security and prevents data overflow. The efficiency of a renewed memory engine allows reducing memory consumption for up to four or five times.
  • Advanced System Character Screening:
  • This new update for Handy Backup continues enhancing an engine for screening prohibited or system characters in file names. In particular, the renewed screening option eliminates problems with apostrophes in file and folder names, replacing these symbols with other character sequences during backup and then restoring file names in original form before recovering. This option eliminates system errors related to “incompatible” or “prohibited” characters.
  • Renewed Localizations:
  • Small but valuable updates in such GUI localizations as Brazilian, Slovenian and Spanish language allow perfect display of all command words and terms, especially in part of using diacritic characters. For these languages, diacritic characters can bring semantic differences and Handy Backup 8.0.5 correctly displays all command and control components on mentioned languages.

New in Handy Backup 8.0.3.28 (Jun 4, 2019)

  • This new version updates the recovery interface by fixing selection of just some files or subfolders from an unselected dataset. In addition, the E-mail notification window in this new version becomes more informative, with advanced possibilities of tuning up notification email content.
  • The new version allows avoiding an uncommon problem with data recovery, where selecting some files or subfolders in completely unselected data source causes restoring all content, not just selected files. For now, the program will recover only the selected set of files after total data unselecting.
  • The new E-mail notification window for the version 8.0.3 also becomes much more modern and convenient. It contains some new possibilities for tuning up texts of notification messages, and also provides the modernized interface, including disabling unusable controls on the setup window.

  • This version contains a renewed PostgreSQL plug-in with an advanced restore engine and a priority search for utilities in the PATH environment variable. Other plug-ins such as FTP Backup and WebDAV also has some enhancements, providing even more stability and speed.
  • In addition, the traditional "About Handy Backup" window now displays much more information than in earlier versions.
  • Enhancing PostgreSQL Plug-in:
  • The renewed PostgreSQL plug-in now has a priority to seek utilities by paths prescribed in the PATH environment variable. It also has a new table restore engine that allows more correct recovery for PostgreSQL backup datasets.

  • Traditionally, many plug-ins were renewed for the version 8.0.2, for enhancing quickness and efficiency of these plug-ins.   • Fixed Scheduling Display:
  • This update fixes a representation problem where the "Every Day" repeating sequence selected during task creation was changed to "Once" on a display. (Despite that, a scheduler still works correctly, making a day-based repeating for such tasks.) In this update, we fix the problem, and you will always see "Every Day" in a task properties window after selecting this repeating mode.
  • Optimized Email and Cloud Backup:
  • In the version 8.0.1 some cloud and email plug-ins bring updated functions, such as connection to WebDAV over HTTP protocol and a possibility to backup Gmail emails of very big size. These optimizations allow smoother and faster online backup but bring no changes in plug-in logic or interface, allowing using both new and existing tasks with equal effectiveness.
  • Complete Czech Localization:
  • The version 8.0.1 provides a full Czech localization for the Handy Backup 8 new GUI.   • Traditionally, this version contains some updates providing extra quickness and reliability, and also grants an access to a renewed Disaster Recovery utility, based now on the Slax 9 Live USB. This new and stable version of a recovery operating system provides compatibility with almost any modern hardware, especially with video graphic processors.
  • Based on Slax 9 Linux distro, the new version of drive recovery solution supports many modern hardware units, including video graphic cards and adapters. This provides additional comfortability, especially for modern PC and laptop units, and speeds up all operations with a Disaster Recovery GUI. The traditional interface of the Disaster Recovery tool has no change in this version, allowing complete compatibility with all old practices and tasks.

  • The S3 Plug-in:
  • This plug-in supports the S3 protocol for exchanging data with any cloud that supports this protocol. The S3 backup is very reliable and secure, as proofed by long-term utilization of Amazon S3 backup in Handy Backup software (note that it contains a separate plug-in for backup to Amazon).
  • The new plug-in is very easy to set up and use. Just provide your S3 server name, and a pair of public and secure keys in a connection dialog, and you can use this new connection for any actions including backing up, restoring or synchronizing your files and folders via S3.
  • The Mixed Incremental Backup:
  • This method of data backup makes a full copy of your dataset firstly, and then repeats a couple of incremental backups for the same dataset. When reaching a selected quantity of incremental copies, the program will create a new full copy again, and repeat all the cycle.
  • In previous versions of Handy Backup, users had the similar option but based on differential backup only. Now you can select a mixed backup type between differential and incremental backup as the basic method of data saving.

New in Handy Backup 7.14.0.58 (Jul 10, 2018)

  • Renewed Database and E-Mail Plug-ins:
  • The plug-ins for ODBC database backup and for email IMAP backup directly from a mail server are faster and more reliable in the Handy Backup 7.14. The user interfaces for both plug-ins remain the same as in earlier versions, making all the tasks already created totally compatible with renewed plug-ins and allowing managing many types of databases and email backup services.
  • Updated Triggering for Task Schedule:

  • We are proud to announce the new update of Handy Backup to the version 7.12, which contains the dedicated plug-in for backup OneDrive for Business.
  • This easy-to-use, dedicated plug-in allows you using your Microsoft OneDrive for Business accounts as any other cloud storage in Handy Backup (such as Google Drive Backup or a simple OneDrive account). It means that you can now:
  • Backup OneDrive for Business account data to some other place;
  • Restore or clone your backups to OneDrive for Business as to any other storage;
