Imposition Wizard Changelog

What's new in Imposition Wizard 3.5

Mar 31, 2024
  • Pages Rotation:
  • All the layouts except booklets got Rotate page 90° option. Combined with the Flip pages option they let you rotate source pages all the way around.
  • The new Content rotation parameter on the Sheet tab lets you rotate the whole page block 90, 180 and 270 degrees.
  • Sheet Margins:
  • Horizontal and vertical offsets and padding parameters on the Sheet tab were replaced with the new Margins block.
  • You can now provide margins for all the sides of the sheet and Imposition Wizard will make sure the pages are not placed there in automatic mode. In manual mode you will get a preflight warning if pages are placed there.
  • Automatic Color Bars:
  • New automatic color bar option is added to the Marks panel. You can add it the same way as you add the PDF–based color bars.
  • The automatic color bar reads all the spot colors used in the imposition and automatically displays a bar of them. You can add CMYK colors there, if needed.
  • Other Changes:
  • Booklet creep section now lets you choose if you want to offset the inner, outer of both edges of pages;
  • Folding mark option is added to the Marks section, works for booklets;
  • Source pages can be centered and cropped instead of scaling;
  • Custom texts got new "{spot-colors}" dynamic variable for listing the spot colors of the current imposition;
  • Custom texts also got new dynamic variables for margins, see the dynamic variables drop–down menu for details;
  • Custom texts got Flip upside down parameter that does exactly what it says;
  • Crop marks got Skip empty cells option to let you draw marks around empty page slots;
  • Right–clicking the sheet preview displays a popup menu with the grid information and some handy commands;
  • Hot folders mode now supports saving files to the source folder;
  • Hot folders mode now detects presets list changes;
  • Presets can be imported and exported from the file menu.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.4.2 Beta (May 18, 2023)

  • This is a long–requested feature and it is finally here! Now you can save on fitting more pages onto the sheet. The layout is quite flexible, so you can use it in Step and Repeat, N-Up modes and everything in–between.
  • This is a long–requested feature and it is finally here! Now you can save on fitting more pages onto the sheet. The layout is quite flexible, so you can use it in Step and Repeat, N-Up modes and everything in–between.
  • The update adds two automation options to Imposition Wizard: hot folders and batch processing. Hot Folders mode lets you configure a number of folders so Imposition Wizard monitors them for new files and impose them using the selected preset. The batch processing mode lets you quickly process a number of PDF files using the same preset.
  • Finally, the presets panel got a filtering option. Simply start typing when the panel is opened and the list will shrink down to what you type. This lets you quickly locate the preset you need.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.4.1 Beta (May 1, 2023)

  • This update fixes some issues with the recently released dutch cut layout. Keep reading for more details and downloading links.
  • There were some problems reported for dutch cut in duplex mode with multiple age copies. This is now fixed, so update if you plan to use this layout.
  • The new Align blocks feature is added to the dutch cut layout that lets you align the last page of the secondary block to the main one to save a cut.
  • Finally, the update improves presets management for long lists of presets and filtering.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.4 Beta (Apr 27, 2023)

  • Dutch Cut:
  • Finally! This feature was asked for many years and it is finally here. Imposition Wizard automatically places the rotated block of pages below the main one or on the right of it to fit more pages onto the sheet. Customizable gaps, page repeats and other things.
  • Page Flipping Rules:
  • Another new feature is the page flipping rules in most of the layouts. It lets you define a pattern for flipping pages upside down, so if you need to flip a row or do something more complex — it is now possible.
  • Batch Processing:
  • Imposition Wizard now lets you batch–process a number of PDF files with the same imposition preset. There’s no need to learn the command line parameters as it is now can be done straight away with a few mouse clicks!
  • Hot Folders:
  • Another long–requested feature: now you can tell Imposition Wizard to monitor folders for changes and automatically process the PDF files there with the presets you select. No command line parameters, no scripting, just a normal and friendly user interface.
  • Other Changes:
  • Besides that the update improves presets management and adds the filtering option to the presets panel. Once the panel is opened, start typing the preset name and Imposition Wizard will filter the list as you type. This way you can find presets much faster.
  • Crop marks and gap crop marks have been improved to avoid any possible overlapping with pages, especially in complex layouts.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.2.1 Beta (Oct 28, 2021)

  • Step and Repeat:
  • Step and Repeat mode got a new option that lets you specify the number of copies you need. By default it fills up the whole sheet with pages, but you can change that and get just 2 or say 500 copies of each page.
  • The new feature takes into account the duplex printing mode and if enabled, it keeps the even pages at the back of the odd ones.
  • Imposition Engine and Preview:
  • If you haven’t tried the beta version, you will notice a better preview quality and properly processed gaps between the multiple copies of imposed pages. This includes overlapping bleeds and crop marks placement.
  • Acrobat imposition engine has also been improved for more stable processing of custom texts.
  • Preview is now zoomed to the whole page, not to the width of the page when you open a file.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.2 Beta (Jun 4, 2021)

  • Imposition Engine Improvements:
  • The imposition engine has been updated to better process multiple copies with overlapping bleeds and crop marks. You should get much better output if you use one of those. Crop marks should be added properly between the copies and only if there is enough space for them.
  • Better Preview:
  • Preview engine has been improved to better display scaled graphics. Thin lines and small elements should be more visible even if you zoom the page out.
  • ARM Mac Support:
  • This is the first version of Imposition Wizard that natively supports Apple M1 processor. As Acrobat is still Intel–only application, the embedded plugin is also Intel–based, but Imposition Wizard itself is built for ARM and gets the most of the new Apple CPU. Just make sure you download the proper version for your Mac.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.1.5 (Dec 2, 2020)

  • This update fixes Imposition Wizard Acrobat Plugin for better support of registration marks and color bars. Please update your copy of Imposition Wizard if you use it with Adobe Acrobat.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.1.4 (Nov 5, 2020)

  • Compared to the previous beta version, this update improves crop marks, so they don’t get added between the booklet pages even if there is enough space there.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.1.3 Beta (Oct 27, 2020)

  • Preflight:
  • Starting from the previous version of Imposition Wizard, it checks the layout for errors, such as problem PDF elements or preset–related issues. This update adds checking for pages running out of sheets and missing resources, like color bars or star targets. Preflight itself has been improved for better quality and stable processing.
  • Imposition Wizard also reports any issues it discovers while importing and converting presets from the older versions of the software.
  • Missing Resources:
  • If a preset refers to a color bar (or bull eye, or star target) which is missed in the color bars folder, you will get a preflight error and a dummy element will be rendered in preview.
  • This way you have a chance to fix the problem before the incorrect output is printed.
  • Other Fixes:
  • Crop marks are now rendered with some clear area around them to make them more visible on top of the page bleeds;
  • Preview has been optimized for speed and memory consumption, so pages should scroll faster and smoother;
  • The user interface has been improved here or there for better user experience.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.1.2 Beta (Aug 29, 2020)

  • This update adds a preflight checking feature to Imposition Wizard, improves the user interface and fixes the issues you reported.

New in Imposition Wizard / 3.1.1 Beta (Aug 3, 2020)

  • This update adds support for the latest Adobe Acrobat 2020 on Windows platform.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.1 Beta (Jul 13, 2020)

  • Start Screen:
  • The new start screen looks a little bit different
  • You can now browse for PDF files with a single click or simply select one of the recently used PDF files from the list below (or using the menu).
  • Grid Improvements:
  • One of the most requested features was to return the automatic grid back, as it was in the “classic” Imposition Wizard.
  • Once the option is enabled, Imposition Wizard automatically fills up the output sheets with pages. The feature works for all the layouts, except booklets.
  • There is also a new step–and–repeat option for the whole grid called “multiple copies”. This way you can print multiple copies of the same layout if needed. This was a feature of booklets before, but it is now available for all the other layouts.
  • Imposition Progress:
  • The “imposition is in progress” popup was also changed
  • Although we significantly improved the imposition speed in version 3, sometimes you still need to wait a bit while the software is doing its job. Now you have a progress bar and a “cancel” button in case if you want more control on the process.
  • Other Improvements:
  • Page scaling option got a calculator where you can easily do proportional scaling of pages
  • Imposition Wizard can now add trim box to the output files, which contains all the pages on the sheet. It is displayed with cyan bounding lines when enabled
  • Improved Registration Marks:
  • We’ve added a new type of crop marks: gap crop marks, which are added in the middle of gaps between pages to simplify pre–cutting of the printed sheets
  • Besides that, we added a “relative to content” option to custom texts, bull eyes and star targets for more flexibility in placing them.
  • Another addition is new custom text variables: {rows}, {columns}, {vgaps}, {hgaps}, {pagesize}, {trimsize}, and {units}.
  • Layout Improvements:
  • Cut Stack layout got two new options, which let you run pages right–to–left and bottom–to–top, if needed
  • Booklets got creep calculator that helps you to compute the pages' offset using the paper thickness and other parameters you configured in the layout
  • Other Changes:
  • On top of that we made the sheets types list editable. It is not that visual, but if you are not afraid of some XML editing, you can locate the file next to the presets folder. Click File → Useful Folders → Presets in the menu, then go one level up and locate sheet-types.xml file there. Open it, edit the way you need, save, and restart Imposition Wizard to get the types you need in the drop–down list. If something goes wrong, simply delete the file and Imposition Wizard will re–create it at the next run.
  • A problem with non–English file names was fixed in Acrobat mode. Also, this update fixes a problem with converting of black to rich black in certain files in standalone mode.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.0.8 (Feb 28, 2020)

  • One more update based on your reports. It appears that the Acrobat plugin of Imposition Wizard was not ready to “very empty” PDF pages that don’t even have the “content” block, not just the content itself. Standalone version worked just fine, but the Acrobat version crashed. This is now fixed, so please update your copies.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.0.7 (Feb 15, 2020)

  • The update fixes a nasty crash that may happen after imposition is completed. It also improves command line parameters processing.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.0.6 (Feb 5, 2020)

  • This is a minor update fixing New Preset button in the presets manager and crash reporting tool.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.0.5 (Jan 11, 2020)

  • This minor update fixes problems with running Imposition Wizard from Adobe Acrobat on Mac that some of our users experience.

  • Black crop marks are now visible;
  • Shuffle rules field got vertical scrolling;
  • Angle marks appearance improved;
  • Custom text alignment improved;
  • Preset selector better monitors presets for changes;
  • Imposition preview improved;
  • Sheet numbers added in preview;
  • Single/double page preview mode is now stored between runs;
  • Output PDF name heuristics imporoved.
  • Some other small fixes were made here or there.

New in Imposition Wizard 3.0.3 Beta (Dec 8, 2019)

  • This update fixes problems with presets and registration marks found in the previous version. Thanks for the heads up, appreciated.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.13.3 (Dec 30, 2018)

New in Imposition Wizard 2.13.2 (Dec 7, 2018)

  • This release improves command line processing and provides better error handling in case of incorrect arguments. It also features better PDF reading in standalone mode and proper prefix and suffix management when saving imposed files.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.13.1 (Sep 21, 2018)

  • This update fixes negative page shift support in booklets. It's been accidentally removed in 2.13, but now works just fine, as before. Please update your copies.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.13 (Sep 19, 2018)

  • This update comes with a full-featured Standalone version of Imposition Wizard for Windows that can be safely used in production. The update will replace your old installation of Imposition Wizard, both Standalone and Acrobat editions.
  • This is also the first 64-bits version of Imposition Wizard for Windows. You can still download the 32-bits version, as well if necessary. Note that they can't be installed together on the same system and replace each other when installed. We recommend to use the 64-bits version as it can access more memory of your computer which is good for imposing of large documents.
  • New Features:
  • This update comes with better measurement units support. It keeps all the sizes and offsets in the units you use and there shouldn't be rounding errors for sheet sizes, gaps and so on as long as you keep using the same units across the project.
  • Collating marks have been added to booklets. We try to keep the number of parameters minimal, so please contact us if you need them to be more flexible.
  • Statistics collection has been removed from Imposition Wizard. Thanks for your participation, much appreciated.
  • All the application settings are now in the Settings/Preferences window for your convenience, not in the main menu.
  • You can now configure prefix and suffix of imposed file in the settings window.
  • Bugfixes:
  • This update fixes problems with trim marks coming as white rectangles in some viewers, provides better processing of password-protected PDF files, features better installers for both platforms and better checking for updates and license renewals.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.12 (Apr 10, 2018)

  • Starting from this update Imposition Wizard Standalone uses different PDF engine on Mac by default.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.11.1 (Dec 6, 2017)

  • This update fixes a recently reported issue with PDF files having rotated pages and bleeds. The problem happens in Standalone mode only and only on Mac, but we recommend updating your copy anyway.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.11 (Oct 3, 2017)

  • We are happy to announce the very first beta version of the new Imposition Wizard Standalone for both Mac and Windows platforms. We worked hard to make it as good and reliable as possible and now you can start using it in production. Please contact us in case of any issues, as with the 3rd version it will be the only option for Standalone mode on both platforms.
  • What's New:
  • The main new thing is the Standalone mode working fine on Windows. Both preview and imposition work well and ready for testing in production. The new Standalone for Mac has also been improved for speed and stability.
  • Both Acrobat and Standalone modes got various bugfixes, including the support of rotated pages, floating point issues, unicode file names problems, incorrect input processing and some other problems that you reported.
  • Also the startup time and overall performance has been improved on Windows.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.6.0 (May 15, 2015)

  • Acrobat DC:
  • Adobe released the updated version of Acrobat a month ago, but the SDK was released a month later. That SDK was essential to make Imposition Wizard support the latest Acrobat, so we had to wait. Now, as Adobe has released everything we need, here is the updated Imposition Wizard for Acrobat that supports Acrobat DC.
  • Cut Stack improvements:
  • Cut Stack layout has been improved in both apps. We have added a "Pages flow" parameter that allows you to configure the way pages run through the stack of sheets. By changing this option you can even make N-Up layout out of a Cut Stack one! That's a very powerful option.
  • Output sheets order:
  • Acrobat version got an option to reverse the sheets order, or group fronts and backs separately. This feature was in the Standalone edition for a while, now it is added to the Acrobat version, as well.
  • Other changes:
  • Booklets have been improved and their user interface has been simplified;
  • A booklet-related issue has been fixed;
  • Rasterized (fast) preview in the Acrobat version has been fixed to take bleeds into account;
  • Shuffle editor in Acrobat edition has been improved;
  • Added support for the negative content offset to the Acrobat edition.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.5.1 (Feb 20, 2015)

  • This update fixes a bleeds-related issue in the latest version.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.5 (Feb 12, 2015)

  • Shuffle editor:
  • The new version features a nice shuffle editor which allows you to place pages over the sheet using a mouse. Switch to the shuffle mode, then click the Shuffle Editor button to activate it. Although we do our best to automate the most common layouts, there's always a complex one that doesn't fit.
  • Faster preview:
  • Another nice addition is the page preview rendering mode. Some heavy PDF files may work really slow because of the number of artwork there. Since version 2.5 Imposition Wizard can speed the things up by pre-rendering source document and caching the raster images. This way you get a faster preview with lower quality, but the end result is still the same.
  • There is also a Wireframe option that completely hides the source document's pages to make the application running even faster. Once again, this option doesn't affect the imposed document, just the preview.
  • Backside options:
  • There are two more options for back side content: you can now flip and shift it at the Duplex printing section of the Sheet tab. Both features allows you to better fit the document to your printer's parameters.
  • Other improvements:
  • Content offset added to the Centered mode - now you can shift centered pages, as well;
  • Color bars can be attached to the sheet, not to the pages. Combined with the ability of using your own images, this allows you to add your own marks or targets to the sheet;
  • Some issues fixed related to the Minimal sheet mode, imposed document generation and the last project settings saving.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.3 (May 14, 2014)

  • New booklets:
  • This new version brings 8-up and 16-up booklets. We started with the most common layouts, but going to add more. Please suggest the features and layouts you are missing, so we can prioritize our list.
  • Cut stack:
  • Double-sided cut stack has been improved to make sure that both sides of a sheet are used. Single-sided layout has not been changed.
  • Page scaling:
  • One of the nice features of this release is a page scaling option. You can now scale source pages up or down to fit the target sheet exactly as you need.
  • Bugfixes:
  • We have also fixed a number of small (and not that small issues) like crashing when entering negative gaps values and temporary freezing while updating the document. So far we have no serious bugs in our list, so please let us know if something goes wrong.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.2 (Mar 3, 2014)

  • This version fixes an issue with crop marks that disappear if run out of the sheet. Crop marks are now allowed to intersect sheet's borders.
  • Starting with this release, Imposition Wizard will be checking for newer versions and report if something has been found. You can turn this off in the settings menu, if you like.

New in Imposition Wizard 2.1.1 (Nov 30, 2013)

  • Fixes some issues with flipped pages
