What's new in IsItUp 8.80

Oct 18, 2023
  • Speeding Up Your Network Insights: IsitUp Network Monitor's Fast Event Log Reports
  • In the domain of network monitoring, even slight enhancements can yield substantial results. We're pleased to present a recent update to IsitUp Network Monitor, aimed at accelerating the generation of event log reports.
  • Making Reports Faster:
  • We know that waiting for event log reports to be generated can be a pain. That's why we've revamped IsitUp Network Monitor to significantly cut down the time it takes to process large amounts of event log data. For instance, in the past, creating an error-only report from a roughly 50 million records Event Log would consume several hours. However, thanks to the latest update, this task can now be completed in 10 minutes or less.
  • Benefits for Network Administrators:
  • For network monitoring professionals, this upgrade translates to tangible benefits:
  • Swift Decision-Making: Access to real-time event log insights empowers rapid decision-making, a critical capability for promptly addressing network challenges.
  • Increased Productivity: Expedited report generation frees up time for strategic planning and network optimization endeavors.
  • Heightened Security Measures: Rapid event log analysis enables early detection and mitigation of security threats, fortifying network resilience.

New in IsItUp 8.79 (Sep 13, 2023)

  • Version 8.79 adds a check box to the Loopback monitor setup screen, making it a single click to monitor the email server configured for IsItUp's mail relay. Simply click on the check box shown in red below, and IsItUp will automatically configure the monitor to test the mail relay. Since the mail relay is frequently the organization's email server, it is very convenient.

New in IsItUp 8.78 (Dec 14, 2021)

  • Version 8.78 improves inbox caching speed. IsItUp must track changes to the mail relay account’s inbox when the Email loopback monitor is configured. This is necessary to check for loopback messages returned from email systems being tested.

New in IsItUp 8.77 (Sep 13, 2021)

  • Version 8.77 corrects an error in the built-in web server that would allow an attacker to display files on the computer that IsItUp is installed on. Taro Software recommends all customers that use the Web View upgrade to this version.

New in IsItUp 8.69 (Aug 1, 2021)

  • Improves dependency loop detection. A dependency loop occurs when one or more monitors depend on each other. Currently, IsItUp detects dependency loops only when a device is actually being tested. The new feature tests for a dependency loop when a device monitor is being configured. This check is done when configuring an individual monitor as wells as with Bulk Update.

New in IsItUp 8.68 (Oct 2, 2018)

  • Version 8.68 improves the look and feel of the drag and drop operation. Drag and Drop now scrolls when you move the cursor above or below the device view. This allows you to drag one more devices to groups even if they are not currently in view. In addition, as you drag over a drop target, the name of the drop target is displayed as part of the drag and drop icon. This makes it easier to be sure you are dropping to the correct folder. In addition, a new cut and paste option was added to make it even easier to organize your groups.

New in IsItUp 8.65 (Jan 23, 2018)

  • Version 8.65 improves the graphing feature by adapting the graph to higher screen resolutions and improving the graphic layout. The example below shows the new format.

Complete functionality is provided to filter traps by Source Address, Generic Trap, Specific Trap, Enterprise OID and community string. In addition, one or more Variable Bindings can be configured for filtering as well.

New in IsItUp 8.51 (Oct 10, 2016)

  • This version adds a new user interface and makes the Email Loop Monitor easier to use.

New in IsItUp 8.50 (Mar 14, 2016)

  • Version 8.50 adds a new capability to monitor the state of processes. It uses the Windows WMI technology to retrieve process statistics and can retrieve process information from both a local and a remote computer. You can choose between monitoring the actual number of processes, the total memory used, or the total CPU time used by all the process with the same name. The result can be compared with either a range or a constant and a user defined compare operation. A wide range of compare functions are available including the typical mathematical operations such Less than, Equal to and Greater than. Below is a screenshot of the setup dialog for the monitor.

New in IsItUp 8.48 (Dec 22, 2015)

  • The Bulk Update feature is used to make updates to more then one monitor at a time. A new feature was added to make it easier to select the group of monitors you wish to make changes to. With the new feature, you can select the monitors to be modified by groups or by monitor types . You can select one or more monitors by simply clicking on the monitor name, type(Ping,SNMP,Mail, etc) or group. The selection dialog is similar to the monitor selection dialogs used in other parts of IsItUp. Making the User Interface consistent makes IsItUp easier to learn and use. In addition to the monitor selection, a new feature was added to Bulk Update to make modifications to Executables and Sound alerts. The Executables and Sounds alerts are used to run any type of batch or executable file on monitor failure or recovery. A variety of parameters can be passed to the executable if desired

New in IsItUp 8.47 (Dec 22, 2015)

  • A new up threshold option was added to the Execute a Batch or Exe file or play a sound alert. You can now set how many times a monitor has to test successful in order to trigger the alert. In addition, the User Interface has been changed to make it easier to add, modify and delete this alert type. Now all the alert types (email/SMS, Page, Executables and Sounds, Restart Services) work in a similar fashion. Since they now all work similarly, it easier to learn how to set them up.

New in IsItUp 8.46 (Nov 19, 2015)

  • A new database format has been added so that reports can be run much more efficiently. Event log reports, Up Time / Down Time reports, and graphs are now run in separate threads so as not to interfere with the User Interface. Also many small changes were made to improve data reporting including response time for all monitor types, improved reporting for the DNS monitor and improvements to the setup for the EMail Loop Monitor.
  • Addtionally, the optional periodic Email status message was converted to HTML for easier reading. The status message also had a new option added to list the names of the current devices down along with the number of devcies up and down.

New in IsItUp 8.41 (Apr 30, 2015)

  • Adds new formatting for the Error Log View:
  • The new formatting for the error log view makes it easy to quickly identify problems. Also, a new quick print function was added to the error view. Just right click with your cursor anywhere in the Error View window to display the Print menu.

New in IsItUp 8.39 (Feb 18, 2015)

  • Version 8.39 Adds Jitter Statistics:
  • Jitter plays an important role in the performance of your network especially if you use streaming, gaming, and Voice over IP protocols. IsItUp has added a new feature to the IP monitor that measures jitter. Both the maximum and minium jitter is displayed as well as the average. In order to get a more reliable measure of jitter, we recommend that more then one packet be sent per test. We suggest sending 50 but you must send at least 2. To monitor jitter, create a Ping Monitor for one or more endpoints in your network

New in IsItUp 8.38 (Feb 18, 2015)

  • Version 8.38 Adds Packet Loss Statistics:
  • Packet loss statistics are an important part of maintaining your network’s health. Packet loss is particularly important to VOIP, gaming, and streaming media. You can easily monitor your network’s packet loss with a new feature added to the Ping Monitor Sensor. To Setup to monitor packet loss, create a ping monitor for one or more endpoints in your network.

New in IsItUp 8.37 (Jan 5, 2015)

  • Email Alerting Templates:
  • Email Alert Templates solve the problem of needing to reenter Email alerts for each device. Along with Bulk Update, Email Alert templates offer a complete solution to adding, removing and editing your devices Email notification alerts.
  • They can also be created when you are adding a device monitor or using bulk update for convenience. This is described later. When you click on the Alert Template icon, the Alerting Template wizard is launched. It starts with an introduction screen explaining how to use the feature. Clicking on the Next button displays the Setup Email Notifications Templates screen. This screen is similar to the Setup Email Notifications as part of the device monitor creation wizard.
  • It has the usually Add, Modify, and Remove buttons for managing alerts. More details are provided in How do I customize Email and SMS alert messages?
  • Templates can be added in both the Bulk Update and the create device monitor wizard. Since they both work similarly, the create device monitor screen will be described. On the Setup Mail Notifications step of all the create device monitor wizards, there is an Add from Template button.
  • Clicking on the Add from Template button displays the Select Email Templates screen.
  • Here you can select one or more templates. When you select OK, they will be inserted into the device monitor you are creating. Because they are copied from the original template, you can make additional customizations to the inserted templates without changing your templates. There is also a Manage button on the Select Email Templates screen that launches the Alerting Template wizard described earlier so you can create a new template here if needed.
  • The Bulk Update wizard works similarly with an Add from Template button that launches the Select Email Template screen.

New in IsItUp 8.35 (Aug 18, 2014)

  • This version adds a new feature to the Bulk Change Wizard that allows more then one change to alerts, maintenance schedules and other options at a time. New in IsItUp 8.34 (Aug 12, 2014)

  • Adds two new features to improve monitoring:
  • The first feature adds packet loss tracking to the ping monitor. You can now specify the number of pings that must be successful during each test cycle for the test to be considered successful. For the example to the right, the number of pings per test is 4 and the number of pings required for success is set to 3. This is equivalent to a 25 percent packet loss tolerance. To get finer resolution, just increase the number of pings per test and adjust number pings required for success accordingly. The defaults for this feature can be set as part of the "Program options" on the configuration tab or they can be set individually by clicking on the "Settings" button on the IP Monitor configuration screen.
  • The second new feature allows configuration of any monitor to be normally down. This reverse mode of testing is useful when you want to be notifed if a device comes on line.
