JpgKeywords Changelog

What's new in JpgKeywords 2.4

Jun 11, 2023
  • Additional metadata added to thumbnails.
  • Thumbnails now display the following metadata: GPS info indicator, date/time original (when the photo was taken), and camera model. New options have been added to choose which metadata to display. By default, only the GPS indicator is shown.
  • An annoying bug introduced in the previous version of the program has been fixed: the "Filter Only Selected" button sometimes displayed an error.

New in JpgKeywords 2.3 (Mar 26, 2023)

  • JpgKeywords now reads additional metadata information from jpg files, including date/time original (photo taken date) and camera manufacturers. New features added for this metadata include:
  • Viewing this information in the info form (Ctrl+I)
  • New filters added to the filter form for filtering by date/time original and camera manufacturer.
  • Additional sorting options added when sorting photos (View->Sort program menu) by date/time original and manufacturer.
  • In the Statistic form (View->View Statistic program menu), counts of files with and without date/time original are displayed, along with the count of photos by manufacturer.
  • A new sorting option has been added to the program, random sort.
  • A new filter named "Filter by misplaced years" has been added to the filter form. This filter checks for consistency between years used in four places: file path, file name, year from date/time original, and years used in photo keywords. If different years are used in different places, the photo is likely placed in the wrong folder or has the wrong name. This can be helpful when organizing photo archives.
  • The snapshot format has been changed. When saving a snapshot from the "File->Save snapshot" menu, additional information is now saved in snapshot files. If you have existing snapshot files, you will need to recreate them by opening the folder in question and saving the snapshot again.
  • The filter by part of keyword feature has been simplified. Filtering by part of a keyword is now a single word instead of a list of words.

New in JpgKeywords 2.2 (Dec 23, 2022)

  • Added sorting capability:
  • Added buttons "Sort by similarity", "Sort by distance" and "Restore Sort".
  • Select one photo and click "Sort by similarity" to sort photos. Similarity means similar keywords in different photos.
  • Select one photo that contains GPS info and click "Sort by distance". Photos are sorted by distance of the selected photo. Also, the distance is displayed on the thumbnail.
  • "Restore Sort" button restores default sort.
  • Added "Sort" in the program menu "View" for more sorting capabilities.
  • Added filter capability in F2 mode:

All photos will be filtered by this keyword. This way the double click works like a link, and you can quickly jump from one keyword to another. The effect is the same as selecting a keyword from the list and pressing F3 to filter by that keyword.
  • In "View statistics" the GPS info is added.
  • In program status bar count of currently selected photos is added.
  • In the cascade filter count of currently filtered keywords is added under each cascade.

  • Information form can be helpful if you want to see the properties of the specific photo. Also, the information form can be helpful when all photos are selected to analyze your images by different criteria. For example, too big or too small photos by file size/width/height/pixels. Or for very long file names, keyword count, etc...
  • . Added new option "Indicate if image has GPS info."

New in JpgKeywords 1.9 (Apr 26, 2022)

  • Added help to the program. This is the main feature introduced in this version.
  • Although JpgKeywords interface is simple and intuitive some features can be not so obvious. Program documentation can help to explore the full power of JpgKeywords.
  • Added shortcut Ctrl+Enter for operation "Add new keyword to list". This operation is available from the toolbar and when right-clicking on the keywords list. But because this is an often-used operation the keyboard hotkey is added also.
  • Some minor internal changes and bug fixes.

New in JpgKeywords 1.8 (Mar 24, 2022)

  • Added "Copy to Folder" and "Move to Folder" commands.
  • This is the main feature introduced in this version. Now is possible to filter photos by keywords and then move or copy them to separate folders. Right click on selected photos to do this operation.
  • Double click on splitter between keywords list and photo thumbnails aligns photos to the right side of the window, so free space on the screen can be used more effectively.
  • The above alignment is done also automatically on application start.
  • Fixed bug when there are files with the same name but in different subfolders. Sometimes thumbnails for these files are not created

New in JpgKeywords 1.6 (Aug 8, 2021)

  • Significantly improved thumbnails creation speed
  • This is the main feature introduced in this version. When JpgKeywords open folder with jpg files for the first time the thumbnails are created.
  • If folder contains many thousands of files the time to create all the thumbnails can be long. Now thumbnails creation speed is about 5 times faster than the previous version.
  • Improved speed of statistics calculations.
  • "View Statistic" takes many seconds (5-10) to open on large folders (20 000 files). Now statistics are displayed almost instantly.
  • Added toolbar with buttons for the most used operations.
  • Added new option to show or hide toolbar.
  • Changed sorting of keywords list in statistic view.
  • Now keywords are sorted not only by count used, but by count used and then by name. Useful when list is long.
  • Added "Delete File" operation when right click on selected thumbnails.
  • Removed option "Create thumbnails method", because it is not more needed.
  • Now thumbnails are created fast and in good quality.
  • Several small improvements in user interface.

New in JpgKeywords 1.5 (Mar 28, 2021)

  • Added cascade filter:
  • This is the main feature introduced in this version. The cascade filter is a new kind of keywords filter. In the "standard" filter the photos can be filtered by a set of keywords - for example filter all photos that contain keywords "word1" and "word2". If there are many keywords defined it is not always clear in what combinations keywords are stored in photos. For example many photos can contain keywords "word1" and "word2", but no photo contains both "word1" and "word2". In this case a standard filter will produce an empty set of photos. With the new cascade filter only existing keyword combinations can be used. When a keyword is selected in the first keywords list the second keywords list is populated only with keywords that can be found in combinations with the first keyword. Clicking on the keyword in the second list the third keywords list is populated only with the keywords that can be found in combinations with both first and second keywords. The third, fourth and so on keyword list can be clicked and only existing keyword combinations can be selected.
  • Changed font in filters:
  • The font (size, color, etc.) is changed in the "Filter" and in the new "Cascade filter". Now the font is the same as the font in the main keywords list. Also the open size of filter windows is enlarged.
  • Several small improvements in the UI.

New in JpgKeywords 1.4 (Dec 17, 2020)

  • New:
  • Added option "Rotate image according to EXIF info (if available)".If a JPG file contains EXIF info for image orientation it will be displayed correctly as a thumbnail and in preview. Note the image itself is not rotated (JpgKeywords never changes images). Only on the screen photo will be displayed correctly rotated. Option can be turned off. By default is on.
  • Added option "Show thumbnail number". If this option is on the thumbnail will be numbered.
  • Added filter by keywords count ("Filter" button). Photos with specific count of keywords (or count range) can be filtered.
  • In "View->View Statistics" details can be double clicked. If keyword (tab Keywords) is double clicked the filter by this keyword will be applied. If keywords count in file (tab Files) is double clicked filter by keyword count will be applied.

New in JpgKeywords 1.3 (Nov 22, 2020)

  • Added button "Filter Only Selected" - shows only selected photos. Useful when working with a large folder with many files:
  • Let's say for example there is a folder named "Year2020" with 1000 photos and you want to focus on a small subset of pictures, lets say 50 birthday photos.
  • You can select these 50 photos and press "Filter Only Selected" button. Only selected 50 photos will be displayed.
  • Now pictures can be tagged with birthday related keywords without interfering with other photos.
  • Press the "Clear filter" button to see all photos again.
  • Added additional statistical info (View->View statistics):
  • Added file list grouped by count of keywords in file.
  • Added button "Copy to Clipboard" in statistic info.
  • Added "Copy file Path" option in photo context menu (right click on photo):
  • If several (or all) photos are selected, the path is copied for all selected photos.
  • Added "Open in Default JPG Editor" option in photo context menu (right click on photo):
  • Open photo in the default program associated with JPG files in the system. Also you can double click the photo while holding Alt key.
  • Bug: Font color for keyword list is not changed from "Font" button. Fixed.

New in JpgKeywords 1.2 (Oct 27, 2020)

  • Recently used keywords.
  • Added list of recently used keywords.
  • Added option to set count of recently used keywords.
  • To display recently used keywords list check "Recent" check box.
  • Now drag and drop of keywords to photos can be done from two lists: "Standard" keywords list and "Recently used" keywords list. This can improve productivity to find and add keywords more quickly.
  • Improved responsiveness.
  • When drag and drop keyword to photo there was a small lag (less than half second) before you can drag next keyword. Now this lag is removed, so keywords can be added very quickly.
  • Simplified adding of similar keywords.
  • When you add new keyword while typing there is a list of similar keywords below edit field. Now you can click in the list to add keyword in edit field.
  • Improved copy/paste keywords from photo to photo.
  • When F2 is pressed on photo you can select one or several keywords to drag to another photo. Now you can do Ctrl+C on selected keywords to copy and then paste (Ctrl+V) to many photos at once. If you do Ctrl+C and no selected keywords - all keywords from photo are copied.
  • Now Ctrl+A works in F2 mode to select all keywords.
  • When you click on photo you can start typing and this will auto filter keywords list so you can quickly find needed keyword. After drag keyword to a photo you have to click again to grid before you can start typing again. This unnecessary click now is removed, so after drag you can start immediately typing again. This is helpful, because if you want to add a lot of keywords every click matters.
  • Added copy/paste ability in keywords list.
  • Copy/paste was supported only between photos. Now keywords list support copy/paste.
  • Added ability to copy/paste keywords between two instances of JpgKeywords.

  • JpgKeywords title on Windows taskbar is changed to show last part of photo folder used.
  • For example if you opened folder "D:my_photosYear2020" the "Year2020" will be displayed on Windows taskbar. This can be helpful if more than one instance of JpgKeywords is running.
  • Some small bug fixes and improvements.
