New in Judy's TenKey 5.7 (Feb 3, 2014)

  • Windows 8 Support:
  • Now better supports Microsoft Windows 8, and includes administration settings for corporate IT departments.
  • Keyboard Calculator Key:
  • If your keyboard contains a dedicated Calculator key, Judy's TenKey will automatically link to that key, and bring up your calculations in progress whenever you press it (not simply launch a new calculator as the default Windows calculator does). Press the key again to hide Judy's TenKey. Simple!
  • Keyboard Sounds:
  • Now includes optional setting for operator sounds, which can be set to use the same sounds as every other key, or to have their own, unique sound for easier auditory confirmation.
  • Delta Percent Calculation:
  • New [d%] button on the Merchant Bar calculates the difference between two numbers, and the percentage change that represents.
  • More Intelligent Copy & Paste:
  • Now interprets pasted numbers surrounded by parentheses, such as (1.23), as negative for easier copying from formatted spreadsheets. For tenkey syntax users, it will also optionally bundle up the the sign with the number when pasting (for example, a "4 -" line becomes a "-4" when Edit | Special | Numbers Only copied into Excel).
  • Miscellaneous Improvements:
  • Merchant functions can now be 'undone'.
  • Ctrl+H edits the note on the highlighted tape entry.
  • Better protection against tape names that cannot be saved to the file system (for example, those containing the '/' character).
  • Other minor fixes

New in Judy's TenKey 5.52 (Jan 24, 2012)

  • Windows 7 Support:
  • Now better supports Microsoft Windows Windows 7 (as well as Vista, XP, and Windows 2000), including security guidelines, use of the registry so multiple people can share the same computer with their own settings, and the HTMLHelp support system. Also includes MSI capability for corporate installations.
  • Multi-Level Undo:
  • If you realize you've made a mistake, (for example, pressed '+' when you wanted '-', or deleted the wrong tape lines), simply click the undo icon on the toolbar, or use the Ctrl+Z keyboard shortcut. You can undo multiple actions, or choose to redo actions that you just undid. Of course, you can still directly edit the tape if you prefer.
  • Toolbar:
  • Provides quick access to common commands, such as Print or Keep On Top, and even some new ones such as "Increase number of decimals shown", "Decrease number of decimals shown", or "Reuse highlighted lines". As with all other Judy's TenKey elements, you can choose whether or not to display the toolbar, and you can also customize the buttons shown by double-clicking on the toolbar.
  • Multi-Column Printing;
  • Save paper by printing 2 columns per page, or print exactly as shown on the screen. Page numbers are now included, and you can control margins as well.
  • Easier Configuration:
  • New tabbed configuration dialog lets you change multiple configuration settings at once, as requested by many users over the years. The Configure menu still provides direct access to the more common commands for quick manipulation.
  • Keyboard Sounds:
  • For years people have been asking for keyboard sounds. Now, you can set your system to play light, heavy, or no clicking sounds, plus separate sounds for Totals. It's actually quite fun, and provides audible feedback that you are clicking the correct number of buttons.
  • Horizontal Resize
  • At long last, you can now stretch the tape wider as well as longer. This can be particularly helpful when dealing with large fonts or long tape notes.
  • Portable Deployment:
  • Enables you to create a zero-install version so you can run Judy's TenKey from a thumb Flash drive or even a CD without installing anything on other computers. Great for traveling accountants!
  • Status Bar:
  • Optional display along bottom of window that shows you whether your Numlock is on, the value of the most recent memory you set, and so forth.
  • Recently Used File List:
  • The File menu now provides a list of your 5 most recently used tapes, so you can more quickly and easily open a recent tape.
  • Auto Numlock:
  • By default, Judy's TenKey will activate your keyboard numlock whenever the program has the focus, leaving it as previously set whenever you switch to another program. You can deactivate this feature via the Configure | All Settings | Keyboard menu if desired, but it basically just works like magic.
  • Easier Editing:
  • Pressing Ctrl+E starts editing a note for the latest tape entry, so your fingers never need to leave the keyboard. Using the Tab and arrow keys let you move from editing one tape element to another, again with no need for the mouse.
  • Miscellaneous Improvements:
  • Optional setting lets you automatically place Judy's TenKey icon in the Quick Launch section of your Start bar (so you can always get immediate access). Ctrl+Alt+J hotkey also installed by default so you can access your program from anywhere, even if it's buried under many other windows. Better support for multiple monitors, simpler and more robust installation, minor display improvements.

New in Judy's TenKey 4.5 (Jan 24, 2012)

  • Merchant Bar:
  • A new optional row of calculation buttons including:
  • Tax:
  • Adds tax to the current entry.
  • Discount: Subtracts a discount from the current entry.
  • Markup: Adds to the current entry so that the total price reflects the current markup profit margin rate.
  • Grand Total: Displays the sum of the main totals since last grand total.
  • Item Counter
  • A very popular request, especially for accountants and other adding machine users, the item counter optionally keeps track of the number of items you included in your calculation, and shows it in a note on subtotal and total lines.
  • Tape Name:
  • You can now name your tapes, such that the name will appear in the title bar of the window, at the top of any printouts, and as the file name (if you choose to save it).
  • Smart Tape Updates:
  • Judy's TenKey has always been able to automatically recalculate your tape whenever you made changes, but now it carries any changes forward to subsequent calculations, making updates a lot easier overall. In the example below, changing the top 5 to a 10 updates the first total, but now also updates the second total as well. Our user testing shows that "linked" calculations like this are very common, and that automatically updating each subsequent link significantly improves TenKey effectiveness.
  • Tooltips:
  • Resting your mouse pointer over any TenKey button now gives you information about the button (usually, its function and its keyboard equivalent).
  • Better Wheel Mouse Support:
  • Now without clicking on the tape, you can scroll the tape up or down using the center wheel (if you have one) on your mouse. By clicking once on this wheel, you can also enter "scroll mode", in which the tape scrolls according to your mouse movements.
  • Improved Help:
  • Help menu now activates the standard Windows "contents/index/find" dialog box, and a new help menu item brings up a list of all functions and their keyboard shortcuts. You can activate this feature any time using its own keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+K).
  • Function Keys:
  • Selected functions now have Function Key shortcuts, to eliminate the need to hold down Shift or other somewhat awkward key combinations.
  • Automatic Saving:
  • Although Judy's TenKey could previously be configured to automatically save its configuration and/or the current tape when you closed the application, these automatic saves were not triggered by a normal system shutdown. They are now!
  • Memory Tooltips:
  • Resting your mouse pointer over a memory radio button reveals the current contents of the memory.
  • Miscellaneous Improvements:
  • Better auto-labeling when updating the tape, assorted bug fixes, better copy & paste support with other applications.

New in Judy's TenKey 4.2 (Jan 24, 2012)

  • Windows 98 and 2000:
  • Version 4.2 includes major work to better support the latest Microsoft operating systems, from installation to keyboard shortcuts to printing.
  • Increased Tape Length:
  • Internal tape length can now be up to 5,000 lines (as opposed to 300 for v4.0). This increased length makes it easier to review previous work, and to handle very lengthy calculations.

  • Improved Help:
  • Supplements the already extensive help system with a contents tab so you can better understand the program's overall capabilities.
  • Visible Break Lines:
  • Breaks between calculations are now indicated visually on the tape, eliminating a source of hidden confusion with previous versions.
  • Assorted Usability Improvements:
  • Includes right-mouse click to insert a blank line in the middle of the tape).
