New in Softerra LDAP Administrator 2013.1 4.9.121712.0 (Dec 20, 2012)

  • IPv6 Support:
  • Since Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) becomes more and more popular nowadays, we have added IPv6 support to LDAP Administrator. Now you can use LDAP Administrator both in IPv4 and IPv6 networks simultaneously without any issues.
  • Displaying Empty Attributes:
  • From now on, following multiple requests from our customers, LDAP Administrator can be configured to display empty attributes in the List View. This will allow you to quickly add an attribute to an LDAP entry.
  • LDIF Editor Enhancements:
  • At request of many users, we have improved LDIF Editor by adding a number of important features listed below.
  • LDIF Editor Bookmarks:
  • In the new version of LDAP Administrator, you can use Bookmarks to mark lines in LDIF Editor, so that you can quickly navigate to a specific location and jump back or forth between locations. The bookmarks are bound to a specific file, so you can use them any time you open this file in LDIF Editor.
  • Undo/Redo History:
  • From now, LDAP Administrator stores the undo/redo history of LDIF files. It means if you open a file next time in LDIF Editor, you will be able to perform undo/redo operations that were done previously.
  • Restoring File State:
  • Now, LDAP Administrator maintains the state of outlining as well as scroll and cursor positions of a file opened in LDIF Editor. It means, that next time you open the same file in LDIF Editor, the cursor position, scroll position and outlining will be the same, as they were last time.
  • Persistent Dialogs:
  • Starting from this version, LDAP Administrator automatically saves/restores the position and sizes of all modeless dialogs, such as Directory Search, Group and Members, Schema Viewer, LDAP-SQL Query, Reports etc, even if they are docked. So, next time you open a dialog, it will be placed at the same position where it was closed last time.
  • Command Line Builder for Import/Export:
  • Writing an import or export command line can be a time-consuming operation due to an extensive list of parameters that control the import/export operation. Now LDAP Administrator allows you to construct a command line for the laimex.exe tool using the Import/Export Data Wizard. All you need to do is set all the desired parameters using the wizard and press the Build Command Line button.
  • User Interface Improvements:
  • We’re always looking for ways to make your work with LDAP Administrator easier and more efficient. One way to do it is to create modern and streamlined user interface
  • New Favorites Button:

New in Softerra LDAP Administrator 2012.2 4.8.12206.0 (Nov 28, 2012)

  • This version of LDAP Administrator presents a new Navigation Bar that replicates the address bar display of Windows 7's Explorer. It combines the history of browsed LDAP entries with the possibility to quickly switch between them, the Quick Search tool, and a new breadcrumb navigation control. Breadcrumb is a very powerful navigational tool that provides two dimensions for navigation: the horizontal breadcrumb structure that lead from the root of the directory to the current entry, and then any one of these breadcrumbs can be navigated vertically, through the child elements. Clicking on any of the breadcrumbs to the left of your current position takes you to that location, providing a quick backward navigation through the directory. This is one of those controls where a picture is worth a thousand words.
  • Data Import Improvements
  • Updating Existing Objects during Data Import:
  • With the help of the Update existing objects option, now it is possible to update objects during data import. If this option is selected, LDAP Administrator will update existing directory objects using the data from the file instead of throwing the 'Object already exists' error.
  • Replacing DN Suffixes in Entry Attributes:
  • Now, if the Replace DN in entry attributes option is enabled during data import, DN suffixes are also replaced in all attributes that have the DN syntax.
  • Correcting the Import Order:
  • If the file being imported contains records in an incorrect order (child objects precede their parent objects), now LDAP Administrator will automatically fix the order and will always import parent objects before their child objects.
  • Committing DN Syntax Properties at the End of Data Import:
  • A new option for data import is now available - Commit DN syntax properties after all entries are imported. If the option is enabled, all DN syntax properties of all objects being imported are saved to the directory only after all objects are imported. With the help of this option, it's now possible to import files that contain objects referring to each other (e.g. two groups that are members of each other). This feature is useful especially when using Active Directory.
  • Deleting Items in Auto-Completes:
  • The Auto-Complete feature remembers what you type and automatically makes suggestions to help you populate fields. Sometimes the auto-complete suggestions become no longer appropriate. Now you can easily delete unnecessary items from auto-complete drop-downs.
  • Creation of Local Domain Profiles during Installation:
  • A new option - Setup profiles for local LDAP servers is now available during the installaton. With the help of this option, LDAP Administrator will scan the local network and automatically create profiles for all LDAP servers found in the domain.
  • Schema Attributes in LDIF Editor IntelliSense
  • Locating Groups and Group Members in the Scope Pane:
  • While viewing group membership properties of LDAP entries, now you can easily locate any group or group member in the directory tree.
  • Improved Editing of DN Syntax Attributes:
  • Now, when adding or modifying DN syntax attributes, you can use the Browse for DN dialog that helps you easily locate the object you need.
  • Enhanced Quick Search Results:
  • We have significantely improved the Quick Search tool. Now you can work with quick search results in the same way as you work with entries in the List View pane: they can be renamed, deleted, modified, exported, added to the Basket, etc.
  • Importing Single LDIF Record
  • New Attribute Editors:
  • New attribute editors have been added for the crossCertificatePair and msDS-SupportedEncryptionTypes attributes.

New in Softerra LDAP Administrator 2010.2 (Jul 4, 2010)

  • LDAP Request Log:
  • LDAP Request Log is a new feature introduced in this release that allows keeping track on LDAP requests sent by LDAP Administrator and responses received from the server. This lets you monitor the interconnection between the application and LDAP server on a more detailed level, track errors and much more. The information contained in the log can be presented in LDIF or DSML2 formats, which allows importing log data to the server thus reproducing the work of the application.
  • LDAP Request Log has many helpful features like syntax highlighting, outlining, search and navigation functions, different modes for representing log information, etc. introduced to simplify the work with log data.
  • Navigation:
  • LDAP requests and responses returned by the server are often represented in the log as separate entries. That's why, along with usual search, the request log has navigation commands, which allows you to quickly switch between a request entry and the corresponding server response entry or between search result entries.
  • Text Outlining:
  • To increase readability and simplify the work with LDAP Request Log that may contain lots of records we've added the outlining feature. This feature allows you to automatically or manually collapse log records, which makes viewing and navigating through the log significantly easier.
  • Syntax Highlighting:
  • In order to make the reading of log information an easy process, LDAP Request Log supports syntax coloring based on the LDIF and DSMLv2 formats. Each lexical element available in the log is highlighted with its own color.
  • Importing Data from CSV Files:
  • Although the CSV format is not intended for importing directory data, rather often these data are stored in CSV files, and a corresponding need arises to import these data to an LDAP server. That's why, following the wishes of many users, in this release of LDAP Administrator we have introduced a functionality to import directory data from files containing information in CSV format. During CSV data import, LDAP Administrator enables to specify different document formatting options and also define how object DNs and object class information should be retrieved from this file.
  • Easy Editing of Referrals:
  • Sometimes, when working with the application, a need arises to modify the LDAP URL, to which a referral refers. Previously, for this purpose users had to enable the ManageDsaIT control and modify the 'ref' attribute of the referral object. Now you can change the value of the 'ref' attribute via property page of the referral node.
  • Automatic Sorting of Items in Scope Pane
  • In most cases, when working with an LDAP s:erver, the sorting of data is performed on the server side and the server returns data in some order. Sometimes, server does not provide any sorting functionality or server-side sorting appears to be a much more costly operation than client-side sorting. For such cases, according to wishes of many users, we have added automatic sorting of elements in the Scope Pane.
  • Object Class Specific Icons:
  • From now on, LDAP Administrator can display object class-specific icons for most popular LDAP object classes. This feature helps you quickly understand what object class a certain entry is instantiated from. Especially, this feature is handy when working with containers that contain a lot of LDAP entries of different object classes.
  • Schema-Aware Sorting in List View:
  • The sorting of List View elements by LDAP attribute values has been improved. Now the sorting is performed not just by comparing strings of attributes values, but is based on the type of data the attribute contains. For example, if you sort elements by an LDAP attribute containing dates, all values will be sorted by dates rather than by string representation of these dates.
  • Other Improvements:
  • Features of LDAP Administrator have gained some other minor, but pleasant improvements. Some of the changes are not visible to the user, but still they make the work of application much better.
  • Improved Directory Search Performance:
  • Entensive use of Directory Search especially when handling large volumes of data, often resulted in its slow operation. In order to solve this problem, we have significantly refactored the Directory Search code and achieved a considerable increase in performance: the search itself is running faster and required less memory, the process of storing search results has speeded up dramatically.
  • moddn and modrdn Support for Sun Directory Servers:
  • For Sun Directory Server from version 6.1, the support of moddn and modrdn operations has been added. Now if you rename or move an entry that is not a leaf node and your Sun Directory server supports the modify DN operation, LDAP Administrator will use LDAP-specific modrdn or moddn operation rather than recursively copy the content of this entry to a new location and than delete the old one.
  • Handling AD Primary Groups:
  • From now on, when working with group membership on AD servers, LDAP Administrator correctly handles group membership based on the PrimaryGroupID attribute. For example, all Active Directory users by default are members of the Domain Users group via the primary group membership. Now LDAP Administrator shows correctly members of the Domain Users group.
  • Import Data Wizard Enhancements:
  • Import Data Wizard has undergone important modifications. Along with the implementation of CSV files import, we have also enhanced document format identification and errors reporting.
  • New Built-in Reports:
  • Now LDAP Administrator is enriched with MS Exchange-specific reports. These reports let Exchange server administrators and managers obtain detailed information on users distribution lists, mailbox stores, e-mail addresses, proxy addresses, etc.

New in Softerra LDAP Administrator 4.1.8205.0 (Sep 11, 2009)

  • Window Menu: The Window menu allows users to manage stage of floating windows and to control the visibility of application’s modeless dialogs and property pages.
  • Modeless Monitor Dialog: The Server Monitor dialog is now modeless just as Directory Search and Schema Viewer are. Modelessness allows to monitor the server state and perform other operations at the same time.
  • Value Processors in Exported Data: While displaying data in List View, LDAP Administrator transforms some well-known encoded or binary data into a human-readable form. Now LDAP Administrator decodes such values while exporting or saving directory data to Excel, CSV, HTML or Text format.
  • Search History: Every time you run a search, the application remembers all parameters applied and the time when it was executed. Later on, you can view all searches run previously and re-run them at any time again.
  • Server's SSL Certificate Viewer: Sometimes it is necessary to know what SSL certificate was chosen during negotiation between LDAP Administrator and an LDAP Server. You can click the lock icon on the right-hand bottom corner to see the properties of an SSL certificate currently being used.
  • Active Directory Enhancements:
  • The following attribute decoders have been added: userParameters, logonHours, machineRole, lockoutTime. Several old attribute decoders have been updated according to the latest MSDN documentation.
  • Now LDAP Administrator is fully aware of Active Directory schema specific properties that can be viewed with Schema Viewer.
  • Copy as LDAP Filter: An attribute value can be copied to the Clipboard as LDAP Filter string. This accelerates and facilitates the use of Directory Search.
  • Memory Consumption Reduced: The most often used strings such as attribute names now are stored in a string pool, which saves 10-15% of memory comparing to the previous version.
  • Schema Viewer Drag-n-Drop Support: Attributes can be drag-n-dropped from Scope Pane and List View pane onto Schema Viewer to see their properties.
  • Docking and modeless windows now remember their size and state after application restart.
