The character and application of these strand formations can be configured through the Mesh Tool Options screen. The Mesh Method determines how Mesh strands are generated. The choices are Grill, Shatter, Lace, Crawl or Weave. The Grill and Shatter varieties are oriented about a central point where the mouse is initially clicked. Then, while the mouse button is still pressed, vertical mouse movements adjust the size of the Mesh area, and horizontal shifts control Grill and Shatter variations. The Lace, Crawl and Weave Methods instead apply Mesh strands along a path as the mouse is clicked and dragged around the screen. Strand Thickness specifies the maximum width of the strands, and Density controls their relative spacing. Set Path Width to define the path size of strands as they are applied by the Lace, Crawl or Weave Methods. Depending on the Mesh Method the two Mesh Colors are either blended from inside to outside of the Mesh, or the strands are alternately colored with them.
  • As with all Liquib Tools and Effects, several standard Sequons are available to perform sequences of Mesh actions. And it's also possible to create and store your own Mesh Custom Sequons that can later reproduce those action sequences using any source image.

  • produces rather fanciful representations of holes. These holes are caused by various phenomena, and they are surrounded by rims composed of material that has been ejected from the holes. The source image is partially displaced and scrunched to make room for each hole impact. The holes might also spew out splatters of fluid, perhaps molten lava or mud or even blood. Each mouse click creates a single Crater, while clicking and dragging the mouse produces a trail of smaller Pits. The Crater Effect Options screen is used to configure the attributes of Craters and Pits.
  • The Crater/Pit Cause specifies what made the holes; the choices being Impact, Bullet, Bomb or Volcano. The holes should generally not be perfectly round, so Irregularity and Magnitude values can be adjusted to control how they vary from simple circles. Colors can be selected for the Hole Filling and the Rim Material, or the underlying image can be shown. The relative frequency of Splattering can be set, and a Splatter Source can be specified to determine the colors of fluid splats.
  • Of course, standard Sequons are available to perform pre-defined Crater sequences, and Crater Custom Sequons can be stored to preserve your own action sequences.

New in Liquib Screensaver 2.8 (Oct 18, 2021)

  • 64-Bit Version:
  • The 64-bit Liquib program might run slightly faster, but the most important advantage is the vastly increased memory that can be accessed in a 64-bit environment. This should make it possible to create and save much larger images with Liquib. (A 32-bit version is still available for people with older computers.)
  • As with all new versions, it is free for existing customers to upgrade to the 64-bit Liquib 2.8. Your existing Registration should still be recognized when the new program is installed, so it shouldn't be necessary to enter a Registration Key.
  • Video Enhancements:
  • The video functions for Liquib had been based upon the Microsoft DirectShow API, which relied on COM 'Filters' that could be installed on a computer to read and write video files. Unfortunately, there are very few 64-bit DirectShow COM Filters for the Video and Audio Encoding Codecs needed to create videos. To improve this situation, a more recent Microsoft API, the Media Foundation, has been used to provide an alternative method for encoding videos.
  • The Video Options screen Video Options has been redesigned to accommodate these changes. An Encoding API drop-down box has been added to allow selection of either DirectShow or Media Foundation. This choice will determine the Encoding Codecs that are available on your computer to be used as Video and Audio Compressors. The Encoding API selection also controls which video file extensions will be used for captured videos when AVI / MP4 / 3GP has been chosen as the Video Format. Videos created with DirectShow will have the '.avi' file extension, while '.mp4' will be used by default for Media Foundation based Videos (or the extension can also be changed to '.3gp').
  • Tiling Improvements:
  • Version 2.8 adds new capabilities and possibilities to the Liquib Tiling feature. A Tile Adjustments panel can be toggled on above the Tiling buttons on Edit Tools by clicking the Adjs button. The source image that Tiles are rendered from can appear to Rotate by moving the Virtually Rotate Source Image slider. (The mouse wheel can also be used to Rotate.) The Rotate Origin can be either Base Center, to turn around the middle of the base rectangle of the Tile, or Tile Center to revolve about the middle of the full Tile (which is at the lower-right corner of the base rectangle). The Shift Type controls how Tile Shifting is performed. The choices are: Tile to move the Tile Position itself, Image to shift the underlying source image instead, or Display to move both the Tile and the Image (which appears to shift the entire screen display). Click Reset to reset the Rotate Degrees to 0 and set the Rotate Origin and Shift Type to default values (the Image Shift values can also optionally be reset to 0).
  • The Wander button can be right-clicked to access a popup menu with options to control the operation of automated Tile Wandering motion. By default, both the Wander Pattern and the Shift Type are randomly selected.
  • The Automatic Effects Configuration screen includes a Tiles tab with options to determine how the Tiling feature might be used during Automatic Effects

  • Droste and Mutate Tool fixes.

New in Liquib Screensaver 2.7 (Aug 19, 2020)

  • Lift Tool:
  • The Lift Tool raises various image-based elements and splays them outwards from the point where the mouse is clicked. The overall character of lifted objects is determined by the Lift Style, which can be set to Fibers, Blocks, Towers, Spikes or Pyramids. The Lift Extent adjusts the maximum amount that items might be raised, which also determines the farthest distance that objects can project outwards. The lift amount is calculated based upon the average image color values within each object, and the Lift Basis can be set to either Lightness or Darkness to specify how the colors are interpretted, essentially whether the lightest or the darkest areas are raised the most. The relative size of items for most Lift Styles (other than Fibers) can be set via the Lift Size parameter.
  • As with all Liquib Tools and Effects, several standard Sequons are available to perform sequences of Lift actions. And it's also possible to create and store your own Lift Custom Sequons that can later reproduce those action sequences using any source image.
  • High Quality When Paused:
  • Most Liquib Tools and Effects can be rendered with 2 levels of Quality , and the Options screen for each Tool and Effect can be used to specify the situations for which Improved Quality should be applied. Since Normal Quality generally renders quicker, that level is often most appropriate to use during the real-time creation and evolution of manipulations. Then, if the Render with Improved Quality when Finished option has been set, the Tool/Effect will automatically be re-rendered with Improved Quality when finalized. Now, it's also possible to automatically re-render such Tools/Effects with Improved Quality whenever the process has been Liquib Pause Quality paused. The Apply Improved Quality When Paused option can be accessed either from the Edit Menu or by right-clicking the button. This would typically occur when the Pause button is clicked (or the Space Bar is hit) during Automatic Effects, or while a Random Effect or a Sequon is being applied. The interim results of a Tool/Effect could then be viewed and evaluated at full Quality, perhaps allowing a decision to be made whether to stop the creation at that point or continue the process to the normal completion.
