Mannequin Changelog

What's new in Mannequin 0.3.18

Aug 16, 2023
  • Today we’re back with a new update to Mannequin, which wraps up Inochi2D export features (at least for some time). Shortly after the release of 0.3.17, Inochi2D started implementing some new features that made rigging easier, so we decided to redo the head section of Mannequin’s outputs for better movement range and facial expression.

New in Mannequin 0.3.16 (Sep 2, 2021)

  • New User Interface Preferences
  • New File Dialog
  • Expanded Time-saving Functions
  • Tweaked User Interface

New in Mannequin 0.3.14 (Jul 14, 2021)

  • Hello! Mannequin version 0.3.14 has just released. This update brings new template selections and several performance improvements. Below you can find more details regarding what is changed
  • Summer Collection and Animal Ears Collection:
  • New Summer-themed templates is now here which includes several bikini variations, pareo, sandals and summer hats. In the Animal Ears Collection, we have added fox, bunny and dog ears, complementing cat ears that was added in previous update.
  • Zoom Performance Improvements:
  • The previously janky zoom behavior is now much improved, whether using the top-right input field/selection or using the Ctrl/Cmd + Scroll wheel combo. You can also sync the canvas zoom level and scroll position between open files by clicking the chain toggle at the right side of the zoom level input field.
  • Steam Overlay Support:
  • Steam Overlay is now supported using the usual Shift+Alt combo. You can use Steam’s screenshot feature to easily share creations or use it as an easy way to report problems, since Steam’s discussion form does not allow image uploading.
  • Bugfixes and Other Tweaks:
  • Some of the less visible changes that is present in this update includes:
  • Chest parts for the female template is now reworked to fix misalignment in some poses and thin line showing from clothing item/body parts underneath. The thin line may still appear in the preview sometimes but should disappear when viewed at a greater zoom level or when exported as an image.
  • Fixed a bug in the library window where clicking ‘X’ button does not do anything.
  • Optimized memory usage (less RAM consumption).

New in Mannequin 0.3.10 (Dec 31, 2020)

  • Today we have updated Mannequin to 0.3.10. The highlight of this version is the revamped default male template, which brought the art style and clothing template compatibility closer to the default female template.
  • Another little addition is the Halloween Collection DLC, which brought a few Halloween-themed accessories. Just like the Christmas Collection and the Default Library, more templates will be added to this collection over time.
  • Alongside the changes mentioned above, these issues have also been fixed:
  • Clothing sidebar became irresponsive after switching between active files.
  • Visible clipping when hoodie and blazer is combined using the default female template.

New in Mannequin 0.3.9 (Sep 10, 2020)

  • Online Manual:
  • The manual explaining most of Mannequin’s basic functions is now available and you can access them through a link or by clicking the help buttons that have been placed in the app’s welcome screen and sidebar. Please note that we have yet to reach the pages explaining about making your own content; currently the documentation only covers about Mannequin’s basic usage. With these parts completed, though, the immediate next step in the documentation part is no other than custom user-created parts.
  • Multiple Poses for Batch Export:
  • Even with the earlier-than-expected release, there is still a new feature added into the app! When ‘Batch’ export mode is selected, you can now choose multiple poses to be exported (up to 10 including the currently active pose).
  • UI Adjustments:
  • Alongside the newly added help buttons, we have also made several user interface adjustments to improve consistency. The most awkward thing might be the swapped position of ‘Continue’ and ‘Cancel’ button on the Library window, so we are sorry if your muscle memory already got familiar with the previous positions.
  • Bugfixes:
  • These bugs should be fixed with this release:
  • Misaligned brow parts when using head scale other than 1.
  • Wrong row affected when removing folder location from the ‘Custom Library Locations’ list.
  • Clipping of some parts when combined with the Lab Coat clothing template.

New in Mannequin 0.3.8 (Sep 10, 2020)

  • Revamped Female Clothing Templates:
  • Almost all clothing templates for the default female body has been revamped with a more polished art style. There are also a lot of new items added, such as basic dresses, lab coat, double-breasted blazer, and camisoles. You can see some examples of the revised art style and new templates below.
  • Adjusted DLC Packaging:
  • To simplify the process in our side and ultimately bring you faster updates regarding the DLC, we have moved the currently available DLC (Christmas Collection) into the app’s installation directory (you can find it inside the /dlc subfolder). Although it only features a few templates now, the DLC will also act as an example for users wanting to create custom content. Our upcoming guides about making your own DLCs will refer to several templates inside as case studies.
  • We have also added a few items into this DLC. Still not a decent number yet, but a progress regardless.

New in Mannequin 0.3.7 (Aug 11, 2020)

  • The planned big update which will bring a more polished art and additional template options is still in the works, but we have quite a lot of tiny updates on the app side that has been accumulated. Therefore, we have decided to release these updates with this 0.3.7 update. Here are the changes for this version:
  • Customizable Stroke and Cast Shadow Color:
  • Now you can customize Stroke and Cast Shadow color after choosing 'Advanced' color option. The benefit of customizing stroke color should be self-explanatory, whereas cast shadow color customization is particularly useful if you are unhappy with the grayish look of the shadows that can happen when those are layered on top of darker objects.
  • Template Size/Proportion Defaults:
  • Newly created character will now come with a pre-adjusted size and proportion scale. The maximum scale value will be calculated based on these defaults. For example, the 'Female A' template now comes with a default head scale of 0.9, and the maximum adjustment value for it should be plus or minus 0.15 (so 1.05 is the largest, and 0.75 is the smallest).
  • Clothing Layer Indicator:
  • You can now see a layer indicator on the side of each clothing template's name, both in library view and in the sidebar. This value is what determines whether a clothing template is going to replace another when added to your character.
  • New Default DLC Location:
  • A newly created directory /dlc has been added for easier file management and better support for the Steam platform. This directory also includes a single example DLC, 'Tester Items' which will be updated in the future with various clothing templates that will help custom content creators test things out and seek examples from.
  • Bugfix: Updated Thumbnails:
  • Updated thumbnails which fixes the wrong representation of 'Upward Curve' brow template and the missing representation of 'Head D' has been added.
  • Bugfix: Stuck PSD Export Process:
  • Previously, PSD exports will get stuck when Outline is enabled. This issue is now fixed.
  • Bugfix: Directly Downloaded Mac Version Failed to Start:
  • Previously, Mac versions of the app should always be installed via the itch.io desktop app. Otherwise, an error saying ‘Template file not found’ will show up and the app will get stuck every time a new file is created. This issue is now fixed, and direct download should now work fine (we still highly recommend using the itch.io desktop app for auto-updates).
  • Other Minor UI/UX Improvements:
  • When a clothing template is going to replace another in your character, if the color scheme is already identical then the prompt asking whether the app should try retaining color scheme will not be shown.
  • Links for embedded tweets in the welcome screen are now clickable (they will open in your default browser).

New in Mannequin 0.3.6 (May 22, 2020)

  • 0.3.6 Update Details:
  • This update mainly adds more clothing template compatibility with the default male body template. Most of the clothing templates which has been planned to be compatible with the male body template has been updated accordingly, and now ready to use.
  • No more significant changes in this release, unfortunately, but we have other things to share:
  • Steam!:
  • Yes, our Steam Store Page is now live. We have some requests in the past about publishing on Steam as an alternative to itch.io, and we are happy to say that it will be coming soon! We are planning to release it on July 14, so it is still a long time to go. Managing releases on two storefronts is a little bit complex, so we wanted to progress the app further before doing it.
  • When the Steam version is released, the app will still be in the Early Access phase; we are planning to continue this for a short time to gather additional feedback for the Steam builds. 1.0 release is planned for the fourth quarter of this year.
  • Both itch.io and Steam versions will be maintained at the same pace. For current Pro users from itch, we'll send the Steam keys to your email addresses near the Steam release date.

New in Mannequin 0.3.5 (Apr 14, 2020)

  • New Feature: Light Theme
  • New Feature: Body Template Change Prompt
  • Content Update: Male Template Progress
  • Bugfix: Unresponsible UI for stroke color mode.
  • Bugfix: Misalignment of glasses when used in combination with nose size/position adjustments.
  • Bugfix: Undoing changes in body scale/position causes the app to freeze.
  • Improvement: Exported SVG files are now cleaner, due to removal of unnecessary tags.

New in Mannequin 0.3.4 (Mar 27, 2020)

  • With this update, the initial version of the reworked default male template is now somewhat usable with several poses, tops, and pants ready to use. This is the highlight for now, and we don't really have anything big other than it.
  • There are some minor changes, though, that we've made to support this new(-ish) content better, which is the app behavior when changing templates. Hairstyle and clothing are now preserved, which are very useful if you're designing matching uniforms, for example. In the next update we might further modify this behavior to give you a choice between resetting all clothing and hairstyle to the template defaults, or try and preserve those.
