MediaPortal 2.5 is a full-blown media center software that addresses most common user requirements out of the box. MediaPortal 2.5 also provides access to online video sources. Integrated news, weather information, and management for your digital images complete this software package. User management for your family let you configure users (e.g. kids) and restrict age dependend content and settings.

TVMosaic:
The current TV engine (TVE3) for Media Portal 1 and 2 was developed long time before and is not state of the art any more.
Accordingly we decided to develop the TVMosaic plugin as alternative TV provider. The TVMosaic Community Edition is freeware and can be configured by web browser. Because it is not bonded to windows it may run on many platforms. The client plugin can be selected in the installer now. Further improvements and bugfixes as improved EPG loading time were integrated since previous version.
TVE3.5:
The current TV engine (TVE3) for Media Portal 1 and 2 was developed long time before and is not state of the art any more.
The TVE3.5 is a further development of the TVE3, with mainly better support for SAT>IP
The development was unfortunately stopped, so this plugin is just the latest, but stable state of unfinished work

A scale and fade animation was added when dialogs dis-/appear. The dialog appearance was significantly improved with a skin setting to configure (glow effect, edge radius, transparency).

Skins:
Flexible Aspect Ratios:
All skins support flexible aspect ratios, so it does not matter if you have a 4:3, 16:9 or even ultra wide screen. The aspect ratio is detected automatically, there is no need to adjust settings manually.
International Language Support:
MediaPortal 2 was lacking with the support of many languages yet, because some characters could not be displayed correctly. It was mainly related to a missing unicode font, that is licence free. With the Google Noto we have found a font, that can be used in open source projects.
Due to heavy development of MediaPortal 2 many new text strings were added last years, but are not localized yet. Everybody can support translating strings in our translation platform transifex. Every help to bring MediaPortal 2 forward is highly appreciated by our small development team.
Touch Display Support:
If touch display support is enabled in skin settings, menus won't slide in/out automatically any more, but only on press of the menu button. The support for touch display was extended further:
A first press on a menu tile selects the home content (instead of auto selection on focus)
A second press loads the corresponding media library
Because the menu item selection behavior could be also interesting for mouse users the same behavior can be also achieved with a new skin setting "Whether to select a menu item manually instead of auto selection on focus"

Fixed recording view not being compatible with new view mode settings
Missing button content margin in DialogButtonStyle, "Manage series schedule" button not focusable by mouse

MediaPortal 2.3.1 is mainly a bugfix release. Please read the instructions under 'Upgrade' in the bottom of this news. There is a list of changes – you can find all details in the end of this news – major changes are:

Background FanArt visibility setting to define the opacity of the overlayed content
Setting to activate loop scrolling in most menus and lists (gapless jump from last to first item and vice versa)

For all those who would like to move from MP1 to MP2 and preserve their current media organisation, our forum member raffe has created a small tool that will extract information from your MP-TvSeries and MovingPictures databases and picture folders, The tool will leave all your original data untouched, create .nfo files for all your media and copy existing pictures from your MovingPictures and MP-TvSeries to your new MediaPortal 2 media folders. The .nfo files and pictures then allow a smooth and quick import of all your media info into MediaPortal 2. See thee respective forum thread for further details.

We are proud to present MediaPortal 2.2.3:
MediaPortal 2.2.3 is a full-blown media center software that addresses the most common user requirements out of the box. Besides its TV and Radio services it is also offering a complete media management for movies, series and music, including posters, album and fan art as well as additional metadata (e.g. actor, director and much more) that are automatically downloaded from the internet. MediaPortal 2.2.3 also provides access to online video sources such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. Integrated news, weather information and management for your digital images complete this software package.
This small update essentially addresses a problem in the TV area that was reported by some users. If you are happy with your experience there is no particular need to upgrade, although we also fixed a few minor bugs:
TV/Radio:
Downgrade of TV Engine: MP 2.2.2 included an upgrade of the engine from the MP 1.22 to the 1.23 level. In rare cases this led to a stuttering playback and artifacts when playing LIve TV or recordings. MP 2.2.3 includes again the proven engine that was used in MP 2.2.1.
System:
Subtitles: An issue that prevented the correct display of subtitles in MP windowed mode was fixed..
Series: The missing context menu at season level has been restored.
User Management: Logged-in users will be activated again upon resume if auto-login is selected
Extensions:
MediaPortal 2.2.3's functionality can be further extended through the installation of additional plugins. The choice of extensions, while currently limited, is steadily growing. Discover what else is available in our Featured Plugins section.
Trakt:
A new Trakt plugin has been developed with better sync and watched flags management, completely compatible with the new User Management system, allowing different trakt accounts for different users. The development of the plugin has been moved out from the standard Mediaportal 2 development. This will ease development and bug fixes.

Webradio:
Webradio allows you to play internet radio without having to leave your familiar MP2 user interface.The plugin comes with over 10000's online radio stations from all over the world. Create your own filter from Country, City and any more. Make your own favorites list.

TV:
Extended subtitle support: All kinds of subtitles (DVB, Closed Captions, Teletext) can now be displayed. Individual settings allow users to customize which kind of subtitles they wish MediaPortal to support.
N.B.: When in window-mode, a remaining problem may lead to 'Teletext' subtitles being cut-off at the left and right side of the window.
Recording skin functionality: All recording functons in the different menus have been stream-lined. Recordings can now be scheduled from more places using the record button. Recording options have been expanded.
Previous programm: pressing "0" on the remote or keyboard will now switch back to the previously watched channel.
EPG:
'Single Channel' will now display the complete available guide.
Improved one-button navigation allows to quickly move 12 hrs (Next/Prev) or 24 hrs (Fwd/Rew).
Start and end of the MiniEPG channel list can now quickly be reached with either Home/End on a keyboard or Prev/Next on a remote.
Typing a channel number will highlight the respective channel in the EPG.

HID Input Device Management:
MediaPortal is now processing HID input. This allows the use of any Microsoft-compatible input device, be it remote, keyboard or gamepad. Generic Windows functions (including the standard MyTV, MyVideos, MyMusic, MyPictures) are pre-mapped to MediaPortal functions, therefore all devices should in principle work out of the box.
The plugin now not only allows to map any button or key on your input device to a MediaPortal function but you can also assign a MediaPortal or Configuration screen. This way you can for example assign special shortcuts to switch from one screen directly to another (e.g. to directly jump to TV from anywhere within MediaPortal).
System:
Importer: Out-of-memory issues during large imports have been fixed
Restart: A new option in the shutdown menu now allows an easy restart of MediaPortal
needs to be enabled in settings first)
List navigation: Navigating in long lists has become easier. The following functionalities are now in place
Up/Down Move focus by one element. Scroll down/up if top/bottom list element has focus
Pg Up/Down Display the previous/next screenful of list elements ('Channel Up/Down' on remote)
Home/End The first/last element of a list gets the focus ('Prev/Next' on remote)
Mouse control: The sensitivity of the mouse has been reduced so that minor movements will not immediately take the focus away
Settings section: The system response upon entering the settings section has been significanly improved. The new busy cursor gives a more modern touch to your skin
Special key handling: All keys and combinations are now treated as such. So Ctrl-F7 is now a different key than Shft-F7 or F7 itself. Note that Shift-F10 is hard-coded to the MS Windows context menu function

Trakt:
A new Trakt plugin has been developed with better sync and watched flags management, completely compatible with the new User Management system, allowing different trakt accounts for different users. Flag Mover:
Flag mover is a new plugin developed for MediaPortal 2.2 and newer versions. You'll be able to backup user specific watched flags (JSON format) and to restore/transfer them into a new clean installation.

This service upgrade fixes several bugs and introduces some new features:
WakeOnLan:
We added a WOL-manager to allow the automatic wake-up of the server PC when a client is switched on.
TV:
We added automatic logo management: channel logos are now automatically refreshed every other week so that changes in the logo repository will be automatically available on your system.
We also fixed a bug that caused radio logos to not be downloaded.
A configurable pop-up window now signals that a scheduled recording is starting or has ended.
Player-OSD and Player configuration display:
We added a setting option to allow the optional display of the player configuration dialog.
We changed the way the OSD is displayed. The first press of 'Info' will invoke the OSD, a second will either switch it off or display the player configuration, which will then close again when pressing 'Info' one more time.
Removable media:
We greatly increased the speed when browsing files on removable media (e.g. pictures on a SD card).
Weather:
We fixed a bug that caused temperatures to always be displayed in °C,

We added a new WMC theme 'Turquoise"

Remove Default skin and replace DefaultWide with DefaultWideHD:
It wasn´t an easy decision, but finally we decided to drop the 4:3 Skin "Default" from the installer. For users who need a 4:3 skin, there is a nice replacement called "Four2Three" with the same functionality as the new DefaultWideHD.
We also replaced the skin "DefaultWide" with "DefaultWideHD" with the full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080. A lot of users may already know that skin as "DefaultWide HD", from our skin repository.
"DefaultWideHD" offers an easy-to-use BasicHome-Editor inside the GUI to let you configure MediaPortal to your personnel needs.
PIN protection for delete recordings in TvPlugin:
The accidental deletion of TV recordings may now be protected by a PIN.
Native ISO support on Windows 8 or later:
MediaPortal now supports the direct playing of ISO files on HTPCs with Windows 8 or higher. Please be aware that this new feature is still experimental, so do not remove DT or VCD before trying!
Removed Microsoft MCE Input Handler:
Our Microsoft MCE Input Handler which was deprecated in MP 1.12 has now been removed completely.
Of course all MCE remotes are still supported through our much improved HID Input Handler.
If your remote does not respond as it should do make sure HID is enabled in your configuration.
However please note that any custom mapping you may have done for MCE will need to be reapplied to your HID configuration.
Restore last position and size of MP when used in windowed mode:
If you are using MediaPortal in windowed mode, your settings regarding position and size are now stored when you close Mediportal.

PowerScheduler++ Integrated:
In previous releases PowerScheduler was installed during the MediaPortal installation and PowerScheduler++ could be installed as an extension. With MediaPortal 1.5 we've integrated the PowerScheduler++ functionality into MediaPortal. This change should make configuration easier (Plug&Play) and provides lots of new features like scheduled system reboot, configurable away mode and more options for remote clients.
Improved IPTV Support:
Today most of us receive our TV via terrestrial, cable or satellite transmissions. However, the global increase in stability and speed of the internet over the past few years is making it possible for more and more internet service providers to offer television services which you can receive via your internet connection.
MediaPortal has been able to receive so-called IPTV for about 4 years. In order to keep up-to-date with the newest IPTV transmission techniques, we've overhauled our IPTV support to ensure MediaPortal 1.5 is capable of meeting your IPTV needs now and well into the future.
CableCARD Tuner Support:
If you live in America, are passionate about HTPCs, and haven't heard about CableCARD... chances are you've been living under a rock for the past few years!
For those of us living in other parts of the world who have no idea what a CableCARD is: maybe you're familiar with using CAMs and CI slots to receive encrypted channels from your TV provider? Well, a CableCARD is similar to a CAM.
Up until a couple of years ago if you wanted to use an HTPC to receive encrypted cable TV in America the only option was a complicated and sometimes temperamental IR blaster setup. CableCARD has finally given Americans (and some Canadians) the ability to easily use their HTPC to receive encrypted cable TV.
With MediaPortal 1.5 we've added support for CableCARD tuners... with one caveat.
Some channels or programs may not be receivable due to digital rights management (DRM) restrictions on the content. Exactly which channels are available varies between cable providers. Generally speaking, premium and "subsciption" channels such as HBO, Showtime, PPV and XXX will not be receivable... but other channels like TBS, FX, TNT, USA, ESPN, NFL, MLB, Fox Sports are usually no problem. For people who are savvy with technical jargon, that means you'll be able to receive "copy freely" content.
ViewModeSwitcher Plugin Enhancements:
A major update of this plugin to fix some long-standing problems, improve the performance and add continuous Black-Bar detection/removal capability.
ViewModeSwitcher enables automatic changing of the zoom mode/aspect ratio selection and can optionally perform continuous or one-shot 'Black Bar' removal, for both TV and video playback. It provides similar functionality to the Intelligent Frame Correction plugin.
Improved Video & TV Recording Thumbnails:
With MediaPortal 1.5 we've added an option to change the time offset for thumbnails. Furthermore, if you use composite thumbnails (e.g. 2x2 tiles) the time between the thumbnail parts will be calculated automatically from the video duration. This means no more useless thumbnails!

New Skin Engine Features:
We added some very nice new features to the skin engine. However, some of these changes do require that skins are updated to work properly with 1.2.0.
The list of skin related changes between 1.1.x and 1.2.0 can be found on the related wiki pages in our new wiki. Although the new wiki is not quite ready for public beta testing, we wanted to provide our skin designers and testers advanced access to the updated documentation for the 1.2.0 alpha release.
There is no need to register or login to browse our new wiki since it is only available for browsing at present.· We will be issuing a news release about the wiki once it is ready for public beta test.
Skin designers should keep track of the new wiki pages regarding any additions we make as we are still in the process of documenting the many new skin features.
Videos Enhancements:
Deda has taken our Videos feature to a whole new level. He has added several new features, as well as speedups and bug fixes.
These changes will upgrade your videos database. After the upgrade, the database will no longer work with older MediaPortal versions. This is an important consideration when testing 1.2.0 Alpha.
These changes are already fully documented on the Video Database 1.2.0 page in the Configuration section of the new wiki.
Note: Users of the FanArt Handler Extension have to wait for a new, 1.2.0 compatible version.
Smooth Video Playback:
Owlsroost has spent the last few months on enhancing the video playback of MediaPortal. The result of his work is now part of 1.2.0 alpha. Check it out!
